Haul truck operators in Canada

I have a valid license and a clean drivers abstract. Why is it near impossible to get a haul truck position ? Do these companies really not want to train anyone anymore ? Is there a certain program a person must complete or partake in to obtain employment ? Ive applied to dozens of jobs all labeled entry level.
Even in the oil & gas industry it’s the same thing they all want one year minimum experience. So frusterating..
Im talking even heavy civil earth works like they all say entry level and then require 1000 hours.. there’s got to be a way around this?

Get a job with evr. They will hire anyone with what resembles a brain cell... Work here for 6months. Go work.up north....

In Ontario you need your common core, most other provinces want that or equivalent in experience and training. I’ve worked at half a dozen mines and never seen a haul truck job as entry level.
Your license and clean abstract mean nothing, absolutely nothing at all. I have 20 year in the industry, multiple common core types (service type, not mining), a license and clean record, and if anyone hired me as a haul truck driver out the gate I’d be seriously concerned.

A lot of the mines in northern Ontario see trucking as the entry way. This is far from the norm so don’t expect it everywhere. I’ve been trucking for four of my eight years underground and still have a hard time getting calls back.

Where have you been applying? If you've never worked in camp preference will always go to applicants with a couple years of enduring these shit holes to people who are used to sleeping in their own beds.

Honestly, I've been mining for 7 yrs now mainly trucking, every other site I've applied to lately hasn't called. Even with lots of open jobs. Very frustrating indeed. Your best bet is to try and get on with a contractor, they love newbies, and usually like to train as well. Getting on with companies like Newmont or Couer mining isn't easy. Good luck.
