For me, personally, I have ADHD and that means if I can't see my things, I forget I have them. Yes, seriously. Now I have no idea what this girl's deal is, but she may have a similar problem. Just saying.
Im not sure if I have ADHD but I am definitely on that train, out of sight out of mind.
I ended up getting a nice tray to set my daily essentials on so it at least looks like a collection. I also pile things and have bags of stuff to deal with “later”.
Trays and baskets and buckets and coat hooks are my best friends as someone with ADHD. Where I notice things start to accumulate, I put a containment device, and then when said containment device gets full, I take a sec to empty it and put all the accumulated things where they are supposed to be. Or it’s a place for “collections” like you figured out for yourself.
Trying to just STOP the issue is impossible because of how my brain works. I spent a lot of years trying to force my brain to work normally and it just made me miserable. Once I started finding ways to just work with what I’ve got, my life got easier.
Unfortunately, I am in a place where everything is full so anything new doesn’t have a place to go. I need like 2 days off so I can make progress. It’s so aggravating!
Feel that. I’m currently in a decluttering phase myself, and it takes so much time and energy. 😅 I hope it goes well for you and you can breathe a little easier after. 🙂
I have never been professionally diagnosed as ADHD, but reading your comments puts me in the category.
I do not like clutter, I like things organized. I moved into a small apartment with very little storage so I had to adapt and buy products for small spaces.
I put daily products ie; cosmetics, brushes, meds, bathroom products, either neatly in a basket, plastic handled containers or a Lazy Susan organizer. If I buy more than one of the same product, I keep it in a tall "closet" shelf so I can visibly see what I have on hand.
I've got extra bedding, blankets, and miscellaneous items in plastic zippered containers under my bed and some stacked clear containers neatly against the wall.
Anyway, I've always been a neat and extremely organized person. Still, I do forget I have things regardless of how organized I think I am.
