Onions are chill. They're sophisticated, layered. Potatoes are grubby peasants. They have no business rubbing up against exotic, fragrant oranges.

Every once in a while I send my girlfriend these videos just to remind her they exist.

Onions create ethylene gas that cause other fruits to ripen quicker, so they should really just hang out by themselves.

u/TheMooseOnTheLeft 27d ago

Potatoes too. If you want your fruit to ripen faster, stick it in a paper bag with a potato

41

u/KillTeamRage 27d ago

Or place above it.

5

u/aguyfromusa 26d ago

That's right ethylene is slightly less dense than air so it rises.

3

u/aGodfather 26d ago

Are you implying something?

3

u/SirSkittles111 26d ago

Simply placing the desired fruit above the potato will encourage ripening, thats what they are implying yes.

u/Great_Hedgehog 27d ago

Many if not most fruit do

1

u/Chihuahuapocalypse 25d ago

so if I need a fruit to ripen quickly, put them in a paper bag with an onion for a day or two?

u/13143 ERD 24d ago

Yup.

u/Next-Pass-802 27d ago

The smell of onions can transfer to anything its nearby tho. Solitary confinement.

Bananas too! Wifey will pack a lunch for me and toss in a banana. Hours later my ham and cheese has faint banana essence.

u/WeastSideGangsta 27d ago

This is how Lacroix water is flavored

12

u/Dramatic_Repair2958 25d ago

I always assumed they simply walked the fruits near the water tanks before canning.

Bananas be whopping everything’s ass it’s placed with if we’re being honest

15

u/DangerousLoner 27d ago

Oranges are the “Florida Man” of the fruit world.

13

u/kummerspect 26d ago

Have you ever gotten a box of mixed bagels? If there is one onion or everything bagel in the batch, they are now all onion bagels.

8

u/alexnedea 27d ago

Onions actually release a gas that spoils potatoes and maybe other things too

1

u/Call9juanjuan1 18d ago

Onion are not chill. They release Ethylene (plant hormone) this causes other fruits and vegetables to ripen faster. Aka spoil.

Banana and onion juice helps to open the chakras.

38

u/urixl 27d ago

I know exactly one chakra that would immediately open.

21

u/Zeqhanis 28d ago

Unless you like durian. Then bananas and onions are a winning combo.

But really, I was thinking the same thing. Potatoes and onions together might be okay.

59

u/brandonhardyy 27d ago

You might think potatoes and onions could be alright together, but they should be kept separately in the dark! The onions will make the potatoes sprout more quickly.

40

u/Fun-Library-5990 27d ago

You should never store potatoes and onions together because the onions give off a gas that causes the potatoes to sprout.

1

u/MermaidZombie_ 23d ago

now we know why the bananas off'd themselves

1

u/Rosia-Pettingill7 27d ago

This looks really artistic, like something straight out of american horror story.

u/Apprehensive_Rice19 24d ago

Shit is bananas

b a n a n a s ?

1

u/PotentialDoubt6515 23d ago

Onions can sometimes speed ripening of nearby fruits too.

1

u/Reading-Comments-352 22d ago

Is this some AI kitchen. What human would do that to food

28

u/7pebblesreporttaste 27d ago

there should always be segregation between fruits and vegetables

23

u/myth1cg33k 27d ago

Cue tomatoes having an existential crisis

2

u/CommandTacos 27d ago

Not just tomatoes. I think most of what we call vegetables are fruits.

1

u/DogPlane3425 21d ago

Not according to NAAVF

8

u/ZookeepergameIll1399 27d ago

These are not oranges. They are called tangerines

1

u/BikeOk6296 22d ago

They are called Clementines.

5

u/atomcplayboy86 27d ago

You’re just an elitist, let the classes mix!

1

u/Turbo_Fresh 27d ago

Spit on the dirty potatoes. How dare they breath the same air as me. Grubby peasants.

1

u/zukushikimimemo 27d ago

It should be apples and potatoes. Creed approves,

1

u/LisaCabot 27d ago

The french aprove of this too

1

u/ssgg1122 27d ago

they’re not even organized they’re all mixed up!

1

u/Mister-Beardy-Face 27d ago

How is this even mildly infuriating. Is this your first time owning bananas? That’s just what they do.

1

u/Fun-Concentrate9778 27d ago

Oranges are new potatoes đŸ„”

1

u/babyte3th103 27d ago

But they're not oranges, they're naartjies - although I do agree it doesn't feel right

1

u/citynights 26d ago

It does, but potatoes and onions are mortal enemies and will rot faster in proximity to each other. Maybe OP discovered that oranges keep the peace?

1

u/Accurate-Historian-7 23d ago

Talk about low hanging fruit!
