Ask Kanpur Traveling to Kanpur.
I'd be visiting IIT Kanpur for a short visit recently. But as a girl I am a bit scared after reading the news paper. I know that the campus would be fine and I don't plan on getting out of the campus much, but my only concern is that both while reaching kanpur and getting back home, my train timings are a bit odd...as in late at night. Any suggestions on what mode of transport would be safer for going from the station to the IIT campus?
Thank you in advance, I don't mean to imply that kanpur is especially unsafe, but for someone not from UP, I'm just a little apprehensive.
Edit: Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Really grateful for them. And for the people saying that why I'm scared and what exactly I have read in the media, all I want to say is that I am a woman who would be traveling alone to a new place that's not exactly known to be super safe for women in general. And not as unsafe as other cities is still quite unsafe. Nonetheless, appreciate all of your suggestions.

Don't know why you are scared. Kanpur is not as dangerous as Delhi and Haryana. Metro can be your first option. I would not recommend cab for a solo girl. Try to be in public, you will be safe. You may take auto, vikram etc.. all will be fine.

Exit via City Side (PF No. 9).
Take a cab from ghanta ghar (If Arrival post 10 PM)
From IITK, book a cab or you can get number from students. During day hours IITK has a service to metro.
Metro Timing: 6 AM to 10 PM.

I am a student from IIT Kanpur only. Be assure it's safe to take rapido from Central to IIT if it's very late. Otherwise prefer Metro.

Take a metro to IIT from Central station and be pleasently surprised. Kanpur is safer than most of the places.

Try to book a cab, don't take local autos. You might find some other people from iit campus and you can probably share a ride. If you are coming early morning, like 4-5 am, you can wait sometime and directly take the metro. PS: there's a iitk subreddit as well for better suggestions I guess. r/IITK
