Welcome to r/hoggies where we celebrate and help wild European hedgehogs.
Our wiki page has lots of information to help you help our spiky friends, such as plans for hog houses, feeding advice, gardening advice, how to help a poorly hog, and lots more!
This short film: why we should worry and what we can do by BHPS spokesperson Hugh Warwick is a good introduction about the struggles hedgehogs are facing and what we can do about it.
Any questions, please ask :D

Hello. Can someone point me toward a source of hedgehog house for hibernation purposes?
Seen several HH in the garden since putting in a few cameras so was hoping to prove a dry add secure house there might use and call the garden home.
Have conducted various searchers of course but advice from here carries more weight.
Many thx

Hello. Hanging out the washing, turned around and and a HH snuffling around discarded nut sheets from squirrel feed. Went in to grab some food, tried bowl of dog food acts bowl of cat (poultry) which was definitely preferred. Didn’t seem to be any injury to the HH and he tried off to the bottom of the garden after feed but is it normal to see them around during the day? Is it just topping up in food before hibernation?
PS: i think the video audio might be a bit garbled, me recording to send to my wife, so please ignore.

Another diner has joined the gang this week, we're up to 5 diners a night now.
Mum, 3 babies and a mystery middle sized hog, maybe her litter from May! Who knows but it's all very exciting
More plates have been added!

I frequently get hedgehogs around where I live but this one was out during the day and going around in circles, it looked as it it was injured by a cat or something because its back legs were effectively being dragged behind it and the spine looked almost distended. I was naturally very worried about the little fella and had to do something otherwise I would never have been able to live with myself!
I phoned up my vets that I take my dog to when it's needed but it was a Sunday. Typically in the UK, Sunday is reserved for emergencies only (for pets that are owned etc) so I didn't think I would get anywhere. The vets were very busy and had multiple emergency surgeries ongoing but one of the vets insisted that I brought the hedgehog to them. I promptly drove the hedgehog to them and they happily took the cutie off my hands but readily admitted that the hedgehog was in a bit of a state and that they weren't holding out much hope for it, but said they would call tomorrow with an update.
The next day, they dutifully called me to let me know that the little guy was doing much better, and that having removed a whole bunch of maggots from a wound, that the hedgehog was off to a hedgehog sanctuary and that the vet was feeling optimistic about its prognosis! 4 days later the sanctuary gave me a call (the vet had clearly passed on my information - with my permission) and it sounds like the wee fella is doing really well, managing to put on weight and making a good recovery from its injury.
Just a wholesome story not just that the hedgehog itself is doing well but the fact that the vets went out of their way to make sure that it was treated and went on to receive the care it needed all out of their own pocket too. I was ready to pay up what I needed to in order to settle the bill but it turns out veterinary surgeons in the UK have a professional and ethical obligation under the conduct of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to provide emergency first aid and pain relief to any animal, including wildlife. So instead I donated to the hedgehog sanctuary that was looking after them as a means of paying it forward.
tl;dr - Very poorly hedgehog taken to the vets on a Sunday (not a good day for vets in the UK, emergencies only) and is doing very well as a result :) Always worth ringing your vets to see if they'll take a poorly hedgehog off your hands.

I didn’t realise this was a Reddit page! I am an ecology student with an interest in hedgehogs and British wildlife. Here is a video of the hedgehog that lives in my garden! He’s at a wildlife hospital at the moment for mange but would be back soon and I look forward to housing him in my garden again!

No idea where he came from. Wasn't sure if new one was a welcome addition at first as he kept licking the bum of the biggest one until the big one left and went into his house.
Food:
Mix of Extra Select Premium Hedgehog Dinner and Brambles Crunchy Hedgehog Food (both dry foods) plus a sprinkling of Spikes Semi-Moist Hedgehog Food (looks like worms) on top.
I don't know the genders of any of them, and I don't really want to pick any up to have a look underneath. Let's just hope they all get along for now. I think I might need to invest in a third Hedgehog home for the new one (if he starts to come regularly, as he seems to squeeze underneath one of the houses for now. That's fine but as it gets wetter and colder its not as nice as a proper house.

Found in the garden at work during the Cardiff half. Been advised by a local rehabber and taking to the vet in the morning as I can't leave work until then.

Bro didn’t even need a second to work it out - straight in! I was super happy as I was worried our regular would go hungry for a week. (Just forgot to put the roof on properly oops)
