Someone already went the wrong way here earlier this year. How is there no signage? There used to be.

Should add that I contacted 311 about this. Let's see how long it takes to get something out here.

Shops & Services Where to get my broken ipad fixed?

Got a 10th generation ipad for free from my bank a few years ago. But last month it bricked itself. I won't turn on at all. I've tried charging it for many hours and with different charger. I've tried the reset button code multiple times. It's time to look elsewhere.

It's not covered under warranty anymore. Should I try going through Apple to get it fixed? I fear they'll tell me to just buy a new one. Does anyone know a good electronics person who could help? Not sure if it's the screen or the battery that's broken.

Thanks in advanced!

Shops & Services Looking for a good accountant in HRM?

Hi everyone! Looking for recommendations for a reliable, responsive CPA in the Halifax area based on personal experience. Some online reviews seem questionable (bought!) and a couple firms I've contacted haven't responded.

We need help with two things:

* Receiving a substantial inheritance from abroad and ensuring we have the proper documentation for CRA.

* Tax planning for our rental property, including whether my husband can reasonably compensate me for managing ours.

Ideally, someone knowledgeable in both areas who can help us plan ahead rather than just file our taxes.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Work, Health & Housing Experience with wait time for bloodwork results?

I’ve had bloodwork done numerous times in the last six months as I’ve been trying to conceive / experienced pregnancy loss.

Ever since YourHealthNS changed to displaying bloodwork results 24h after they are available to your provider, I find my results are usually there within a few days of me having the blood drawn (sometimes sooner) .

I had bloodwork done last Tuesday (a week now) at the Woodlawn medical blood collection site … and it’s still visible not on YHNS. Has anyone ever experienced a delay like this ? (I am stressed because this was my first set of labs with HCG to confirm a pregnancy after my first positive home test since my miscarriage).

They did say they’d need to send these tests to the IWK so maybe that’s part of the delay?

I understand that maybe there is just a backlog (??)- but this pregnancy journey has been stressful so I guess I am just looking for confirmation that this is “normal.” If anyone has any insight or experience that would be greatly appreciated! (Currently at home stressing that my blood got lost and I’ll have to get a new appt and repeat all of this).

Videos Where to find large stolen shed

Last week at 2 am, a group of 3 thieves with a towing car broke the gate, came to the yard of the warehouse in Burnside, and stole my brand new in box storage shelter which was supposed to be installed this weekend. They opened the box, it had a couple of metal straps, took all parts one by one by hand and finally put the box up and left. I have reported to the police via the online system but no one contacted me to get the video footage yet. I'm not expecting this to be listed on Kijiji or the marketplace and I'm not sure if this could be sold at pawn shops. Any idea I might be able to find it? It was $3500 worth.

Shops & Services Chair and glassware rental recommendations?

Does anyone have a chair and glassware rental recommendation in Halifax? I need about 30 folding chairs for a party as well as glasses, so not a big order. I'd always rather go with a recommendation than just choosing blindly from google. Many thanks!

Shops & Services Wood Heating Pellet Options in Halifax?

Hello folks, I've come to ask about Pellets for my Pellet Stove.

In the past, we'd ordered from Kent and gotten a pallet of pellets (about 50-ish 40lb bags) for about 800 bucks. I was hoping to spend less than that and have had a bugger of a time finding somewhere. The places I found were either in Ontario or sketchy. Hard or Softwood, either *should* be fine, I think. Hoping to find somewhere before the cold actually sets in hard.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or leads, even if it's just "nah man that's the best deal around".

Sightseeing & Tourism Good winter vacation trips around the maritimes?

My wife and I are looking for suggestions for a good way to spend the few days between Christmas and New Years and wouldn't mind getting out of town for a few days. Not wanting a big long trip (we're traveling far for a wedding in November) but something we can drive to in, say, 4-5 hours or less that's worth spending 3 or 4 days at in late December.

It'd just be the two of us (adults, late 40s) so no need for kid/family activities at all. Last year we drove to Charlottetown for 3 days and actually super enjoyed it: yeah everything touristy was shut down but we found nice shops and restaurants downtown and explored the city a little bit. Anything anyone can recommend would be welcome!

Additional context: we've only lived on this side of the country for a year and a half after a lifetime split between western Canada and Europe, so assume I've not seen much outside the HRM.

This Again Bell silently increased rates on my mobile plan

Edit: public mobile has exactly what i need. Thanks for the recommendations folks.

This is pissing me the hell off.

I switched from a prepaid mobile plan to Bell postpaid last year October. They promised me $30 a month for 40GB internet. The plan was actually $40 a month but I would get $10 off for turning on pre-authorised debit payments. Okay, sure.

Fast forward to today, i notice my bill is over $40 after taxes. How is that possible? Well, turns out, since July of this year, they cranked the price of the plan from $40 to $46. I dont recall ever receiving a notification about it.

This is unacceptable. I'm going to shop around and switch out. If a company does shady shit like this, I am OUT. I almost don't care if I end up paying the same amount elsewhere - at least they say that shit to my face.

Any recommendations from folks? I only need calling/SMS/data for 1 phone.

Driving & Transit car with no license plate looking to get quotes on fixing it up

So would I need to get it towed or is there a way to get a temporary plate to get to and from the shops, and with that would I need insurance?

I’ve never owned a car before, and had never been taught anything car related I mean I wouldn’t know where to even bring it or what the costs of anything are. I’ve been looking online but I would rather have some people with real experiences etc. just hoping for some suggestions or any insight.
Any help would be great!! Thanks.

Work, Health & Housing NS Power usage question

Post image
65 Upvotes

Hi all,

Question for Halifax Reddit.

I live in Larry Uteck in a 1 bedroom apartment. Building was built in 2022.

My latest power bill was this: (see image)

I'm wondering, is this not extremely high for a 1 bedroom? I definitely do use a lot of AC, but still, this number seems insane??

I know NS Power is the worst company in the world, but this bill is nuts. 47.1 KWh per day?

I called them and they told me the bill is about average. Which I do not think is true, whatsoever. I also told them Id like a new meter read, and they said "we have smart readers that work perfectly" in your building.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Work, Health & Housing Spine Clinic Wait Time

Does anyone have any experience with the spine clinic and how long the wait is? I was referred to them following a recent hospital admission and it sounds like a 24-month wait to see a physiotherapist, who then decides if I need to see the surgeon that l was referred to by a medical doctor 🤔

I am currently off work and in daily excruciating pain. I was referred to the chronic pain management clinic while I wait for the spine clinic but the wait time for the pain clinic seems even longer…

Can anyone even recommend a doctor that sees new patients and does not mind prescribing plain meds? I have all the scans (CT, MRIs, X-Ray, NCS/EMG) if needed.

Not sure what the point of this post was but I am struggling and looking for ideas to survive this health care system.
