So my Ziggy is about maybe 5 or 6 months old and I've believe she is going through her first molt. I've been noticing that some of her feathers have started to grow a dark green/brown outline, is this normal? I've also seen that it can happen from handling, which i do alot since she seems to like being held.

it’s supposed to be impossible to tell the sex of a GCC by sight alone. But I’m pretty sure I can tell! The female’s head looks a little different than the male’s to me. I want to see if I’m right or not! So drop some pictures of your birbs and let me guess their sex please :) if you know the sex, let me know if I got it right, but if you don’t know, that’s ok too — I’ll tell you what I think!

If I can see one pic where the head feathers are fluffed up (viewed from the side) and another where they are flat, that is when my guesses will be most accurate. Is it possible to tell about how old these 2 are based off this video? I’m heavily considering adopting them but the store has no idea how old they are. They have been there since august

I called the store to see if they would give me a deal on the pair (because I’d rather not pay full price to chain store and support them, I’d honestly not like to support them at all but I’m falling in love with these 2) but they are required to be in the store for 4 months before they can give a discount. They will be able to in December. I’m ordering a cage and supplies today then going to wait until December and hope they are still there.

However there is someone from this group who I’m talking to that is willing to help buy them so depending on if they actually do help or not I might be able to get them sooner.

I’m definitely stuck between heart and mind tho on do i go with my heart and get them or go with my mind and not support a chain store. They have already been there 2 months

I want to get a security camera for my bird when I’m not home. I get anxious when I’m not home, and wanna make sure he’s doing okay. Does anyone have any advice on which ones to get?

I just recently got a pineapple green cheek conure and the place where I got him took very good care of their birds but did not socialize them like they did with cockatiels, and their macaws etc. im 16 and do online school so I have all the time and patience to tame this bird he’s already taking treats ( millet ) from my hands but is very nervous which makes sense big changes and moving + new environment but could anyone give me tips that worked for them to tame ? He’s about 5 months old!

i'm going to make perches with my granddad, so thats off the list.

i also have metal feeder bowls and have cleaned them.

​First off, I want to apologize for the delay in updating you all—I’ve had a few personal matters requiring my full attention. Most importantly, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has donated, commented, or sent kind words. I never expected this level of support, and I am eternally grateful. Every single cent of the $1,200 raised so far has gone directly toward Kermit’s vet care.❤️

​For those following his story, here is a quick recap and update on where things stand:

​10/09: Took Kermit to Unusual Pet Vets with severe symptoms (fatigue, hunching, labored/audible breathing, weakened grip, tail bobbing, excessive yawning, and frequent jaw readjusting). Initial tests showed a minor infection, and he was prescribed antibiotics. However, this didn't account for the severity of his symptoms.

​16/09: Sought a second opinion and was advised to complete the course of antibiotics first.

​19/09: Returned to the vet as his condition hadn't improved. Tested for Psittacosis and booked in for X-rays.

​21/09: X-rays and crop swabs completed. Good news: X-rays looked mostly clear and tests came back negative for Psittacosis. The downside: We still don't have a clear diagnosis for his symptoms.

​25/09: Kermit had a sudden turn for the worse, so I rushed him to our closest vet. Thankfully, they managed to stabilize him, and he is staying hospitalized for a night or two for close monitoring.

​While there, we had a consult with another avian specialist. Our next step is running panel tests for fungal infections, ABV, and a few other possibilities. It’s a stressful process of elimination, and right now, it feels like a race against the clock.

​This has been financially, physically, and emotionally draining. Having Kermy away from home is painful, but I know hospitalization is the safest place for him if he crashes again.
