Nest Doorbell Activity/Events Awful Since flip to Google Home - How to fix?
Pretty much since I had to transition to google home, all my original Nest branded products that came with my home when I bought it (Nest Hello Doorbell, + Nest Cam Outdoors) have been wildly inconsistent or downright missing major events/people/packages).
I have tried resetting the cameras, deleting video history and even creating "zones" to try and switch things up but I basically have a 50% at best working devices. Some Examples:
- Doorbell Cam marking anything important as "motion" - does not pick up packages/people unless they are legit dropped directly in front of the camera. I have a ~20 ft wide porch on my house and 4 stairs on one side: the stairs and thus somebody coming up to them are very visible in the shot. it will sometimes register it as "motion" but not a "person" or a "package", so typically I only find out a package has made it if I happen to check the camera. Before "gemini", there was zero issue with this.
1a. I also almost never get notifications from "familiar faces" anymore. Used to pick up even the mailman and now it doesnt even pick me up unless I'm staring at it trying to fix it
Outdoor Cam - considers cars as "people". Almost once a day, the camera that is on my garage will register an event as a "person", when in fact its just a car driving by lol. You'd think all cars driving by would register the same then right? Nope, just random
Doorbell Cam Missing Major Events - This bothers me like no other, but the camera will pickup motion of a squirell hopping across the street, but will basically shrug at a car/person/whatever lingering in front of my house (my front door cannot be more than 30 ft from the sidewalk I might add). The other day, there was a genuinely sketchy van pulled up in front of our house as I was leaving. The person was fiddling around in his trunk and was waiting to see where/when he exited and which direction he was going. Of course, the "event" stops halfway through and then the next recording is the car door closed/guy gone. There is absolutely no way the camera could have/should have missed the "person".
I don't know if I'm looking for an answer here how to fix this, or a "ya, me too" but its just so frustrating. I guess I should mention its a hardwired doorbell and I pay for the Google Home Premium Standard Sub $100)
