Planting/Growing Help

Can someone tell me why my fern is yellowing? I have been watering when the soil is on the dry side of being damp? If that even makes sense. I live in a dry climate, so I got a humidifier. I have it by a north facing window with consistent light, and an additional grow light. I’m wondering if I’m going a little overboard with the additional grow light? I have had the plant about a month, started yellowing about a little over a week ago. Should I repot it into an actual pot? lol I haven’t wanted to repot it because it’s having a little bit of a rough time. Thank you!

The label is misleading, this is not technically a fern. This is Asparagus densiflorus, common name Asparagus fern.

They're tolerant of growing in semi shade, but can handle full sun as well. I don't think that it's necessarily too much sun. I don't think a grow light is compulsory.

They do tend to shed some of their cladodes (its "leaves") naturally or when when they experience some or other stress, but I think yours will be fine.

Their tuberous roots make them fairly drought tolerant, but they do grow more lush when given more water. Rather keep it away from the humidifier. Try reducing watering frequency slightly and see how it responds. If fronds die back from lack of water, they should be able to resprout from the tuberous roots. This plant is very hardy.

Also looks like a recent acquisition, lots of plants have a hissy fit when taken home. These tendrils may fade but the next ones will be produces to exist more favorably in your home conditions.

wish i could give you a solid answer, all i can share is my experience

150+ thriving plants over many years and all 3 of my attempts at this plant have resulted in yellow needles, severe foliage shedding, and death. it doesn’t seem to like being taken care of 🧐

Ahhh I don’t have a green thumb whatsoever. I really do try with my plants but maybe I’m giving them too much attention if that’s a thing. 🤪
