General question First time, missing anything?

Making a black walnut dye for a wool sweater, the actual color is slightly lighter than shown, it’s just wet right now. Soaked the already mostly oxidized husks in a bucket ~24 hours, and am now heating just below a boil for 2 hours, before straining back into a bucket to leave the sweater in for 4-5 hours. Didn’t have wool shampoo, so used about 2 tsp baking soda (opted not to use washing soda for better pH) in ~3 gallons of water to hand wash. Hoping I don’t regret that one but only time will tell..
Do I need to reapply lanolin afterwards if I still want the water resistance? Kinda worried I didn’t get enough off to begin with lol
Any and all advice and critiques are appreciated :)

The amount of dye and your pot don't like like enough to evenly dye that sweater. The sweater needs to be able to swim free in the dye, not be balled up or folded

Good to know, I’ll see what I can do to compensate!
