RJ Mitte (Walt Jr) has passed 😥

Wow, I was shocked to hear this. They are saying it was suicide. So sad. He was only 34 years old. RIP, Flynn ❤️

It's not just TMZ reporting. BBC also have it on their front page.

Albeit the BBC have refrained from stating the cause.

TMZ broke the story, though, which is what makes them the biggest vultures

There's no real point in outlets like BBC refraining from reporting it at that point

Not to sound callous, but if they got the news first they would.

Maybe. I assume most reputable outlets would have waited for word from the representatives, though, which is what separates them from TMZ. I don't think the BBC are champing at the bit to report on a young actor's suicide without confirmation

Why would you think that BBC would wait until an official representative announcement?

Because that's what happened today—their article on RJ Mitte's death was only published after his representative responded to them. They're not a gossip site and don't rush to report on celebrity news like this; they require two independent, verified sources for these stories

So if they did have two independent, verified sources, you think they’d wait for a representative statement anyways? Even though they have everything fully confirmed based on their own guidelines?

Maybe, but I'm not sure who their second source would even be, if not the official representatives. There aren't many options for verifiable sources for a story like this

Sure but that’s a pointless argument. Then who would their first source be if not the official representative? You can say that about anything where there aren’t many verifiable sources

who would their first source be if not the official representative?

In this case, presumably it was the county official, per TMZ's initial report

Maybe they skip their 'two sources' rule if one of the sources is an official, verified representative. But that was my original point—they don't report until confirmed by the representatives

TMZ likely did too. Say what you want about their slimeyness, but their speed and accuracy on celeb deaths is legendary.

TMZ's story was based on confirmation from county officials; they only updated with quotes from his representatives afterwards
