It’s crazy how spot-on casting in The X-Files was. For instance, Mulder’s mum looked exactly like him, as she was genuinely his mother; and Mulder’s young version of himself was absolutely perfect as well. I can say the same thing about Scully’s mum and her siblings, too. We should give a credit to the casting directors for doing an outstanding job, just wow.

X-files reboot on Hulu.

and the reason why is very silly. I've only ever watched one episode before in its entirety and it was the X-Cops episode which was a terrifying episode for 10 year old me.

Now the reason I'm watching the series now? Because I have this memory of the show being on a TV (I can't remember where) and it was only a small part that I watched and it's this scene where this old man is in some sort of waiting room at like a hospital and there are these vending machines and he's looking at them searching for something and I can't remember the exact line but he was looking for popcorn. Why do I remember that? Because of the way he said it. He didn't say popcorn, he said popping corn. He was a very ominous character and he said "popping corn" so ominously.

So I'm watching the series to find that episode and get the full context. Admittedly, my memory of this may not be accurate and this scene I'm remembering may not even be from this show. Which if it isn't that's ok cuz I'm genuinely enjoying the show regardless.

Anyways, very happy to hear Ryan Coogler's vision for the remake will become a reality and very excited to see where the series goes next. Would be cool to see some cameos of the OG characters even if it's like the new characters found some old VHS tapes with recordings of the OGs.

I’ve spent ages trying to get the original 1998 X-Files PC game running on my Steam Deck OLED.

I’ve tried different Proton versions, QuickTime workarounds, the DVD version, Collection Chamber releases and various methods of mounting the original discs. Nothing worked properly.

Well, I’ve finally got it running, and surprisingly it was almost effortless!

Here’s what I did:

Install Lutris on the Steam Deck.

In Desktop Mode, visit https://lutris.net/games/the-x-files-game/

Select the 7 CD + Windows 95 installer.

Let Lutris download and install the required files.
Launch the game through Lutris. It’ll boot into an emulated Windows 95 desktop.

Open My Computer and double-click the Xfiles1 CD drive (E:).

Run the game’s installer and launch it.

Add the game to Steam and launch it from Gaming Mode.

That’s genuinely all I had to do.

It’s running through DOSBox Pure Unleashed with an emulated Windows 95 installation.

The FMV, audio and mouse controls are working perfectly on my Deck. I haven’t needed to manually install QuickTime, configure Proton or mount any ISO files.

A couple of things worth mentioning:

Windows 95 can take a while to boot. Initially I thought it had crashed, but it was just loading.
DOSBox Pure has its own settings menu for adjusting scaling and controls.

I’ve tested it running in Gaming Mode, not just Desktop Mode.

I haven’t tested the entire game or every disc change yet.

I know quite a few people have been trying to get this running for years, so hopefully this saves someone else the headache!

edit: Sorry, should have added that you should just do “standard” installation when prompted.

So I’m on my first watch-through and I just finished season 8. I can’t say I went into it completely spoiler free (I was aware that DD wasn’t in the show as much) but I really like Doggett and how he’s been included within the show. I also enjoyed seeing Scully be the believer in a duo. (Scully theorising that there could be a person inside a person in ‘Badlaa’ and Doggett being absolutely bewildered was a personal favourite and hit home how much Scully had changed for me.)

My question is for those who watched this live - did you think throughout the season that Mulder was the father of her baby or that it was alien? Were you happy with the resolution/the Mulder and Scully of it all?

Also as I go into season nine, I’ve read many differing opinions about the quality, but are there any firm favourite episodes in this season? Thanks!

On my first watch of the entire series and just started season 9. The title sequence??? I feel bamboozled.

I have to say I do prefer the original with the exception of Mitch Pileggi getting his time to shine.
