Here's a first
Just had a wonderful restaurant employee of Burger King refuse to give me the Uber eats order I was there to pick up. Wonder why?
They ran out of Dr pepper.
So I tried calling and texting the customer, but after 5 minutes they didn't respond.
I told the employee that coke is fine.
Apparently he was watching /listening to me and said I didn't talk to anyone and I'm not allowed to modify a customer's order. I chuckled because I thought he was joking. He wasn't.
I told him I do this every day, and have to make snap decisions all the time. I have a 100% satisfaction rating, etc. Every customer has been happy with said decisions because they know they should have replied.
Anyway, he refused to give me the order and claimed he'd get a complaint. After arguing with him and trying to make him realize the customer won't recieve their food now, and that would be a much bigger complaint, he wouldn't listen and so I had to cancel the order.
Amazing that some random person gets to tell me how to do my Job. Before I walked out I asked him what the store's rating was. He didn't say a word

The employee wasn’t technically wrong. It’s a common thing for us (the driver) to just say sub it. Then they get complaints. Cancel it and move on.

I unassign and let some other driver deal with it after 5 minutes worry free unassign

BK should have contacted either the customer or UE customer support. That isn't on you.

I will say, I used to work at TB, and we had no way to contact the customer or interact with ubers system, so this isn't always the case, we always had to ask the driver to ask about subs I do think this BK employee was a touch unreasonable with how this was handled

That's interesting because when I worked at a counter service food place we were able to contact the customer. Now granted its been 5 years since I worked there and we had all 3 services so maybe UE didnt allow it, and i'm just remembering DD and GH

I have only worked for Taco Bell, so I dont know the situation for all fast food places, I am simply saying you cant always assume the place is able to contact the customer themselves(give or take how busy they are), because not all places have access to the UberEats system(like how mcdonalds sometimes has the tablets), its just as far as im aware, no Taco Bell has access to a tablet because its all run through the owners of the corporation/franchise and Taco Bells backend systems. So take what i say with a grain of salt

Dude was on a power trip. If they didn't want complaints they'd have the f'ing Dr. Pepper.
No response from customer? Give them the coke and go on your way. Just let the customer know at drop off Dr. Pepper was not available and to contact support if Coke wasn't ok.

Here's what I have done in that type of power trip situation - where we drivers are 100% in the right and the restaurant is being lazy or does not want to fulfill an order for other similar reasons:
Note: This is Beast mode! Not for the Faint of heart.
I ask to talk with the manager for 30 seconds only, not to dispute - just want to ask one simple thing. Not the floor manager - the Store manager - when they arrive - I ask "please give me your business card, OR the store's manager Business Card."
Then I click Start Trip!!!! Then I take a picture of the business card as the delivery OR if it's a meet in person - I politely explain what just happened and drop off the business card.
I as a Driver WILL get paid - if Burger King cant have the common sense to substitute Coke for Dr. Pepper - I will make sure the customer hears about it and they can talk with the resturant manager.
And YES - I have done this !!!
Sadly sometimes it will earn a thumbs down... sometimes it gets resolved...

I had this at Baskin Robbins the other day, out of PB and chocolate, so I made the decision to go with the Reese's peanut butter cup. Got to the customer and it's a pin code. Told him about the switch, he was very happy I got close to what he asked for. No negative ratings here.

Yeah, you’re trying to tell him how to do his. He’s just following the rules of his job, unfortunately, sometimes you run into people that take their jobs and the rules a little too seriously. 😒 i’ve noticed that when I go to liquor stores now they’re asking for my ID, which they never used to do before when I pick up orders. Luckily I’m carrying my ID with me all the time but if I hadn’t had it, I would’ve been pissed, something new every day

He shouldn't be working at a terrible place like Burger King if he doesn't want complaints.

You are not doing your job, you are making a decision that can impact others, and quite simply they don't trust you. Just cancel and move on.

It’s their job to get the food to the person when it’s hot, so they are actually doing their job … if the person cared about substitutions then they’d be waiting by their phone … you don’t think that person’s impacted by not getting their order? That’s just stupid what you’re saying

Yeah. I’d rather have a coke, after Dr Pepper is out, than no drink at all.
