USA Am i obligated to speak to drivers over the phone?

Told this driver i was in the bath and couldn't answer the phone to give him directions, theres instructions attached to the order that he could have parked and read. In the second screenshot at the top where its cut off he was complaining that i couldn't communicate with him when i was activley texting him. Uber refunded me for the order but still charged me for the drivers tip.

Some of yall are insane.
I have been a delivery driver myself, the guy can take a bath and request to not answer a phone call and tell the driver to just refer to the delivery instructions.

Also the driver literally threw the guys food in the grass and y'all are still defending him? Fr?

u/Ok_Marzipan_2801 2d ago

Oh the frosty too, threw it and ruined it

u/Knocalicious 2d ago

Nah you right.

18

u/Halcyon-malarky 2d ago

Seriously. When I was a driver, I don’t remember calling anyone. This is only an issue with 3rd party delivery services. Amazon, my local pizza place, and UPS have never called me and said they were lost. I used to live on the Main Street in town next to a lake. There’s only houses on the non lake side, and I had uber drivers ask what side of the street I live on.

27

u/Regular-Disaster-979 2d ago

I think people are pissed because they probably run into this type of delivery/person all the time.

As a driver, you can see who the helpless people in this sub are. As soon as he said just leave it in the driveway, I would've left it there popped my Pic and left. Does anyone not take 2 seconds after they get in their car from grabbing an order to check the delivery instructions and look at where they are going on their map or nah? Because those show up after you pick up the order. Jesus, just helplessness Also OP I dont use my phone in the bath but who answers calls in the bath?

43

u/CuriousYak6058 2d ago

Right im sitting her like?? So the customer created even less work to do and you got madder? Im a driver and would've been perfectly happy to leave it in the driveway but I wouldn't bug a customer about phone call either

I use the exact same instructions on EVERY delivery I place to my job “far side of building near dumpster, I will meet you at the door” 98% of the time, they don’t read it and take it to the front door.

11

u/RipFamiliar9069 2d ago

THIS! I would even say that 99.5% of the time they don't read the instructions. I always meet them outside and list what I'm wearing...I even stand near the curb.....only to watch them zoom right by me and circle the complex because GPS takes them somewhere else.

3

u/New-Wolf-7623 2d ago

Same. I always tell them it’s the second door at the back and they always go at the front

I'll never understand the hate on notes...99% of the time they make the job easier...I do have this one douche canoe though... He lives in a hard to navigate complex and doesn't he have every one of his directions backwards.. You take a right then left, he says left then right... He says second set of buildings, building on the left... Motherfucker is the first set of buildings and the one of the right. Seriously though, I'm with you...I usually check the notes before my cars even out of park. I've had enough notes ask me politely to get extra sauce or something like that... And I've had notes where the address is changed so it's helpful to look before you start the delivery.

Literally? They paid for a service to have their food delivered at their doorstep. They could get on a flight if they wanted. I don’t want to talk to anyone on the phone. The fact that anyone is giving OP shit after they got their food thrown into the yard, destroying it because they didn’t want to talk on the phone with their driver is crazy.

6

u/NoDealer6778 2d ago

Well, even Amazon drivers can bring packages back if they can’t find the address and the customer doesn’t answer. Just because you want something delivered to your door doesn’t mean there won’t be missteps along the way.

Driver absolutely shouldn’t have thrown it though.

5

u/atomicwaffleFTW 2d ago

This I agree with, op was kind of a dick but if you can’t make the delivery then it is what it is. You don’t get to have a tantrum and launch the food into the yard. Would have been reasonable to just cancel if you can’t find it

7

u/NoDealer6778 2d ago

Yeah, driver ultimately was in the wrong. It’s not hard to leave food standing in a driveway. They intentionally ruined it over a phone call which is ridiculous. Can’t let something that small potentially ruin your way of working, especially when you’ll be over it in an hour.

Talk on the phone? Definitely not. But you absolutely SHOULD be available to respond to text messages quickly.

Also, if you live in an apartment complex or ANYWHERE that requires detailed instructions to find… SHARE YOUR BLOODY LOCATION. Seriously, that little blue dot on the map will guarantee you get your food quickly better than anything else. Because the map is frequently wrong, but the location ping has yet to fall me.

30

u/jaaackattackk 2d ago

Yeah, I’d agree about not answering the phone normally, but if your address requires several additional instructions to find, you probably should be available to answer the phone.

For real. There were times where instructions were unclear and all I had to do was look for the lil blue dot that was the customers phone. It never fails as long as the customer as it on.

7

u/toxicoke 2d ago

when i used to use grubhub i didn't send messages to any of my drivers 99% of the time and the only messages i got were the delivery picture. my instructions were clear and when they messed up delivering my food (one time it was across the street) then i just marked them down

Not really, I fully get not wanting to.

Tf you mean taking your phone into the water with you is normal.. tbh them texting at all in the tub is weird

5

u/Quaxky- 3d ago

I always have my phone in the tub lol 😭 i just prefer not to talk on the phone when im relaxing after work waiting for my leave at door delivery, with step by step instructions attached

17

u/CarlWheezersValhalla 3d ago

That delivery looks way more relaxing than a 30 second conversation

6

u/Pepsiman1031 2d ago

Obviously your instructions weren't good enough.

As a driver, making a phone call means a quicker response from the customer. People often don't immediately respond to texts.

Driver over reacted but I'd be a bit annoyed too.

3

u/DothrakAndRoll 2d ago

That’s fair and your prerogative, but to say you can’t talk cause you’re in the tub but are texting while in the tub is hilarious lol

6

u/RowAccomplished468 2d ago

mfw reading instructions is hard

2

u/Kursmudgen 2d ago

you’re as dumb as this dasher. clearly neither one of you can read. they left detailed instructions. are you unable to follow those without someone holding your hand?

2

u/jaaackattackk 2d ago

I used to work as a wood stainer, had to go to houses all over the place. Idk what type of area OP is in, but rural areas can be confusing. There were times I had to call for clarification despite instructions. Driver shouldn’t have done that, but would a 30 second conversation ensuring they get their food really ruin OPs whole bath?

35

u/CompetitiveDog7392 3d ago

as a driver places be confusing asf sometimes, when i call customers it’s rare but for good reason, in fact most of the times i call its because the instructions weren’t clear, they might make sense to someone who lives there already but to someone that doesn’t know the area probably not

5

u/Quaxky- 3d ago

Im a driver too, the instructions are step by step, no other driver has had enough trouble to throw my food into the yard. Theres more of the conversation where i clearly told him not to go the way he went while he was waiting at the restaurant.

29

u/Numero_Uno1111 3d ago

So you knew that your location requires additional instructions to get to, to the point that you messaged your driver while they were at the restaurant about it but decided to be in the shower unreachable when the driver arrived? do I have that correct?

13

u/Quaxky- 3d ago

No you dont have it correct, I was in the bath activitley texting the driver, there is step by step instructions attached to the order already that many other drivers have had no trouble with.

11

u/Numero_Uno1111 3d ago

Then what was stopping you from answering a call? I don’t get it? Sometimes Maps acts dumb on different people’s devices and makes it difficult to find customers, especially if the location isn’t straight forward (instructions were needed)

18

u/Snowyfall38 3d ago edited 3d ago

Victim blaming. The driver was also texting while driving and had bad english typos.

The customer also said he could even leave it in the drive if it was too hard. But instead, the crybaby driver literally threw a tantrum all over the lawn.

It was only starting during the pandemic that delivery drivers suddenly had difficulty finding my mother’s apartment. OK. Whatever. I began including detailed instructions, yet they still had issues.

These were garden apartments with each door having its own unique address. The instructions were, “Park in the second lot on the right. Face the buildings. There is a courtyard with a sidewalk on either side. Walk down the right side all the way to the end and look right.”

I was still getting absolutely frantic phone calls from drivers who begged and pleaded with me to come out and help them. They’d be across the street, on the sidewalk to the left (you could throw a rock between the two sidewalks, so that still shouldn’t have been a problem), or a couple of times they drove straight past the parking lot to a cross street about 1/4 miles away!

I’m guessing that it was during the pandemic that there was an influx of people who were (understandably) desperate for work, but they still should have made sure to refresh their reading and directional skills, no?

u/marleysmuffinfactory 2d ago

It's crazy to me that people are like "you are expected to be available at all times to take phone call for your order" when

  1. When you order literally anything that isn't food your delivery driver isn't calling you for directions

  2. Idk about everyone here but most of the time I'm ordering delivery when I'm WORKING where there is a 99% chance Im not able to take a phone call.

I work in a building with a HUGE front entrance and the instructions say "leave at front desk" and the drivers STILL CALL ME SOMETIMES. So I understand you 😭

9

u/Cathearts2020 2d ago

Dude I worked at a call center and our front desk would always accept food for us since we're typically, you know, on calls. And I had a driver once leave with my food because I wouldn't just hang up with the person I was on a call with and go to the front and get my food. Dude refused to leave it at the front desk.

The worst part is this wasn't even a delivery service, it was delivery straight from a local restaurant that knows to leave the food at the front.

2

u/Emigd2731 2d ago

The only time that I call the customer is when the order that they requested is unavailable (because it happens at times). If the customer doesn’t respond within 10 mins, I just cancel your delivery (with paid) and move on my day 🤷‍♂️. Guess you’re gonna have to wait for like another 15 mins till another driver accept your request.

As an Uber driver myself, I don’t understand what people’s problems are. There’s nothing rude about anything OP said. After OP posted the instructions posted on the delivery, there was nothing confusing about it either. Yall are tripping. “Time is money” I agree. But a few seconds of slowing down and following what the customer wants is also money. Idk, yall are tripping.

Every driver is different. If you want your food and the driver is calling then you should probably answer your phone. I understand you don't want to speak to someone but sometimes you may need to do so if you want your delivery. I'm not saying it should be that way but this is reality.

5

u/Tonybhoy88 21h ago

How are people arguing about this?? 😭 You gave them instructions (that other people have been able to follow) and answered texts. Most people don't answer calls. I'll take my phone in the bath and watch something, but call in the bath, hell no.

I feel like most of the time when you're ordering food you're busy??? Like that's why you ordered it??? What is reddit on?😭

9

u/LessRespects 2d ago

If there’s a wrong take to have Reddit will usually have it. People here just live to argue so playing devils advocate helps them do that.

11

u/OldOccasion3561 2d ago

no, i prefer not talking on the phone bc i don't trust unknown numbers (i get a lot of scam calls, who doesn't these days) but even with the most clear delivery instructions they still deliver my food to the complex behind me, which isn't even the same address and also doesn't have a patio area with a gazebo - which i secify in my drop off notes: first parking lot on your right, first set of stairs next to the patio area, ground floor - so idk how they even mix it up. like maybe stop texting me and read the delivery instructions instead?

2

u/FrankieG889D 2d ago

Just reopen the support request. Tell them they can pay you a standard cleaning fee of 100 dollars for the vandalism caused by the driver or refund you the remainder of your purchase. Tell them their driver vandalized your property and you need to be made whole or you will pursue it further. If they keep repeating the script tell them you need to be refunded or you will be pursuing it with your bank.

They will likely refund you. If not, continue with the charge back and include in the form you fill out that you tried twice and were told you had to pay to be vandalized. You won't be able to Uber eats anymore with that card, but they will be forced to pay you back plus a penalty fee.

I don’t dash anymore, but when I did, and I called, it was literally only ever because something that necessitated it happened. People will leave “clear instructions” all the time that aren’t clear at all.

You may not be obligated to answer the phone, but you’re not doing yourself any favors.

3

u/AccomplishedTask9885 2d ago

So damn anti social can't answer a phone call to help the driver out but can text. Yeah op a douche bag fo sho

6

u/laboratory1a 3d ago

Basically never order Uber Eats because of this type of bullshit

6

u/Silent25r 2d ago

We have to pull over to text you. It’s much safer to just call.

I always read the instructions. But I’ll be honest. They aren’t as a clear as you thought.

Post your actual instructions if you want feedback on how clear they are. All that aside, I’ve never tossed anyone’s food for any reason.

8

u/krystalzeogas 3d ago edited 2d ago

You're a dick. You know you have a complicated address. You told him if he has any issues finding it to text you. He has issues finding it, texts you (albeit after trying to call when you asked not to) and you're like "I left instructions!!!" Instead of just fucking helping him understand the stupid confusing instructions. Just because it makes sense to you doesn't mean it makes sense to everyone especially while trying to drive at night.

Eta- I didn't even read far enough to know he threw your food. While I get why he got frustrated enough to do that he definitely shouldn't have done that... Just before someone says I'm condoning it. Two things can be true.

7

u/Alshanee 2d ago edited 2d ago

Uber Eats driver here. This driver should be deactivated for this. Why the hell is he calling everyone while pulling up the street. Just follow the dang directions. I only contact customers when they don’t leave instructions and there’s no clear indication of where I’m supposed to go.

But it’s a good idea for all customers to edit your pin. 📍. Today it took me so long to find this apartment because they left the pin at the main office building. And there’s 50+ building in this complex and the parking lots are behind them not in the front. And of course they don’t answer. And buildings are not labeled I have to find the numbers on each door. So stressful.

u/Affectionate-Box-537 2d ago

I think your attitude towards him is worse than not answering the phone. If you have food being delivered- why are you laying in the tub? Also he’s not asking to FaceTime so your nudity is a moot point. A little bit of consideration towards your delivery guy having trouble with your 6 step driving directions would’ve gone a long way. I did Instacart for a few weeks this year and there were a few instances where the addresses given weren’t working out or people weren’t clear enough in the directions or I just couldn’t find the right spot. It was very anxiety inducing trying to search these people out while their food is getting cold/melting and you’re on a timer on the app and working for tips and reviews that some are super stingy with. People like you are so entitled and just insufferable.

9

u/the_red_fern 2d ago

And it’s not entitled and insufferable to throw someone’s food in the grass and pour out their drink out of pettiness? I guarantee that just leaving the food in the driveway, as instructed, would have been an easier and better outcome for both parties involved. You don’t get to complain about her attitude once you decide to up the ante and be a bigger asshole.

2

u/No-Willingness4668 2d ago

"worse" was probably an exaggeration, I think more accurately her behavior toward the driver could be better described as "almost as bad" definitely not "worse"

6

u/crazywrangler616 2d ago

why someone is laying in a tub is not your business

7

u/SillyDGoose 2d ago

Ok let’s be real here. If OP is in the tub he’s trying to have a chill night. That’s the reason why he’s ordering food. As for the driver, the first step should always be to read the instructions before driving off to the guys house.

My reaction would have been different if he read the instructions first.

8

u/Anxious-trifle1 2d ago

I fully agree. Everyone below who disagrees has never delivered and it shows. I deliver for Amazon Flex and some of the directions people provide could’ve been written better by a monkey. A delivery driver is simply a delivery driver, I don’t know your neighborhood, I don’t know your house and I sure as hell don’t have the time to decipher poorly written directions while behind the wheel with someone’s property in my possession. A little consideration or kindness goes a long way, I can’t believe people don’t get that.

Yeah, ur just soft no way to put it. if you cant handle delivering food idk what to tell you. he isnt obligated at all to call you and hold your hand. what do u think people did before google maps? got directions (like he litearally says, he left in the description) and used their big kid thinking caps and common sense to figure it out.
Then on top of that, after failing to figure it out, to throw the food on the lawn like a kid having a temper tantrum? wild.

5

u/Bulky_Individual4719 2d ago

Throwing the food was ridiculous, there have been instances where I couldn’t find or access a persons house or apartment and they wouldn’t reply. Worst case you send them a picture of where you left it, apologize for the inconvenience, and move on to the next job. We tryna make money and this is how you get your account disabled shit is beyond stupid. I got an armed security job now tho so fuck that delivery shit

It’s not my job to direct you, that’s what the directions are for now read them. It’s crazy, when I’m at my store I don’t pester the customers for help

3

u/rustbatman 2d ago

My issue is when customers have "instructions" that aren't grammatically correct, or things are just flat out wrong. I can't read their minds for what they meant to write, I can only read what they wrote. Otherwise, 99% of deliveries are non-issues and the people who are actually dumb and can't read basic instructions, that's on them.

I agree, I remember getting a spam call one time that I was in the tub and I spent 30 minutes on the phone with one of these tech-support scammers making him think I was an old guy having trouble doing his remote control scam. I don’t know why some people have such an aversion to actually being on the phone in the tub.

5

u/Difficult-Spread-760 2d ago

Shut the fuck up, I order food and do whatever the fuck I want. It is not my responsibility to baby sit a delivery driver or answer my phone.

I cannot believe how pathetically stupid you drivers are and I would have charged back this meal if I were OP and ensured support got a complaint about the driver.

3

u/SillyDGoose 2d ago

Reminds me of one driver I had. He wanted me to come downstairs to grab the food because he was afraid of getting a ticket. I told him that there weren’t any issues parking there (it’s a pick up drop off zone often used by delivery drivers.) I also mentioned the parking lot next door. We argued about it for a solid 10 minutes. When I got the food my burrito was gone. All I got was a clearly shaken box of food and a hole the size and shape of a burrito in that box

3

u/babycass223 2d ago

This. I swear everyone is getting more and more, so extremely stupid by the year. So many people literally lack common sense to where everyone has to have their hand held and be told everything step by step as if they're a literal toddler 🤦‍♀️

Driver is wrong but… why would you order food and get in the tub, while also knowing your address is confusing- I doubt this is this first issue you’ve had.

4

u/fluidian 2d ago

OP - it’s likely your directions are not clear - maybe blame one or two drivers for not figuring it out, if it’s half the drivers, it’s probably poor communication on your part.

I’m all for checking out for food delivery - bath is fine - that’s effectively the service you’re paying for. You’re effectively buying time to do something else vs wait for food. But saying half the people can’t figure out the directions is a failure of the op to recognize they they suck at communicating and need to be more clear.

u/Winter_Bullfrog_2343 2d ago

Why are you ordering food and then getting in the tub?

2

u/chronically-online35 2d ago

I want to see how clear your directions were because the delivery app is confusing at times and your typed instructions if clear are super helpful.

2

u/pascaltheorem 2d ago

This is a dumb post. Then I click on your page, see 20 and it makes all the sense. The younger generations brain is screwed up early from the vapes.

2

u/RateCapable342 2d ago

Nah but why you in the bath at like 2 am

2

u/SparklingSloths 2d ago

Oh my god...this is the type of shit everyone in this subreddit says they do to customers 😭 i didnt think they actually did it!

4

u/thevioletkat 2d ago

if you are by chance a female/feminine-type presenting person and are giving your own name and picture, I would highly recommend changing both to a regular old guy type picture and name and see how next deliveries pan out. Often times if you're getting weird demands like this, it's unfortunately because the customer appears feminine and people are weird. Good luck out there and I'm sorry this happened to you!

2

u/ZealousidealFroyo387 2d ago

What weird demand was there?

2

u/SignificanceProud975 2d ago

Often the driver wants to call or meet with female customers and once people have switched it to male this behavior suddenly stops

it might be clear instructions for you but it’s not the same for people who have never been to your property. also uber eats maps sucks. so many times i’ve pulled into one place because that’s where it tells me to pull into, i’m looking for the property but when i go back to check the maps I’m in the wrong spot. you have to give grace to delivery drivers and help guide them if they need it. someone once got extremely mad at me because i could find how to enter the entry to their apartment complex and she was genuinely so rude to me when i was asking for help (i looked for 10 minutes) finally she said she would come down and said mean things to me even though i was being extremely kind and doing my best. i felt so defeated. delivery driving is hard the maps, apartments, packages, big orders. people love to say “don’t do the job if it’s not for you” however i was unemployed actively looking for employment in this horrible job market and. had no other choice a lot of other drivers are in the same boat. nobody wants to work, we have to. give us compassion. it shouldn’t be an inconvenience for you to help navigate or meet them halfway. however there is no excuse for the actions of this driver, throwing your food isn’t okay.

5

u/Quaxky- 3d ago

Im a eats driver too, i did it full time for the past several months and just finally found a good full time job, so yes i get what youre saying in that regard. But i was activley texting the driver, he didnt ask for any additional help he just whined, and I didn't hold a gun to his head and tell him to text and drive. I have had many orders that the customer has given me no contact at all on so i just leave the food where it took me.

Reddit is the only place where something can clearly be wrong, but to get a sense of power by chastising you, people will actually try to try to blame you and justify why something bad happened to you.

5

u/LexiThePlug 3d ago

I dropped an order because the persons address didn’t work on the gps ans the instructions provided led me to no where. He wouldn’t pick up the phone to discuss it further so his food got returned to the store.

2

u/Meary99 3d ago

So you can text from a tub but not call? What kind of logic is that

3

u/AccomplishedStop9466 2d ago

Yes, you're obligated to talk to me on the phone. If I have your order at a restaurant, and there's an issue like something's out, and the restaurant is willing to sub, I'm not gonna play text tag with you and the staff. You're either gonna talk to me on the phone and get it over with fast because my time is worth something, or you're getting something random period.

If you have to type an entire map quest to find your home maybe you should get your own food if possible…

3

u/TheFlash1959 2d ago

Every factual thing about this post points to you DEFINITELY being in the wrong, and the driver POSSIBLY being in the wrong as well at the end.

1) You clearly didn't leave "clear instructions." Hence the driver asking for clarification.

2) The driver puts in extra effort to contact you so that they are leaving your order in the correct place. And for some reason, you have time to text them back and forth, but not enough time for a quick phone call to help them help you.

3) The pictures you posted also shows that it's nighttime, which means visibility will be a lot worse. Especially if there are no street lights or if you as the customer, don't leave a porch light on to help the driver know which door to leave the order at. So the driver needing extra help to find your place shouldn't be surprising.

4) Nothing in the pictures you posted proves that you gave them good drop-off instructions or that the driver was the one who threw the food in the grass. In fact, with how antagonist you were throughout the conversation, it's more likely that you just did that yourself for the online interactions. People do more for less these days. But again, there's no proof of who threw the food. You would need a video for that.

Op getting absolutely demolished in the comments, but i kinda understand them.

Like how hard is it to follow those extremely easy and straightforward instructions? Dude probably shouldn't be driving a vehicle on roads in public if he finds that difficult lmao

Also, its 2026, who still "talks" on the phone? Thats weird as hell.

7

u/This_Association_472 3d ago

Driving somewhere new, looking for a house, and texting someone, while having to wait for the dude to reply would be annoying af

Yeah why have a 30 second call when you can text back and forth for twenty minutes and get the same information. You must be young.

All texting does is make it difficult to get back to the instructions. The app also does other things the moment you arrive at the destination, like make other offers that take up screen space. You cannot go back to instructions and the messages tab is not intuitive to reread.

A call is the easiest way. Its also a hassle to get a call started because theres a default message.

Keep it simple. Or be ready to assist.

2

u/Quaxky- 3d ago

Im a uber eats driver, the instructions are available as soon as you're in range of the dropoff location and they dont disappear until you deliver the order. Its not difficult to park your car and read clearly laid out instructions, i do it all the time, the uber driver app is super easy-to-use lol

3

u/LookAtTheWhiteVan 3d ago

A larger portion than one would think of the population can’t read very well. If the instructions were lengthy then they were probably genuinely having difficulties comprehending them. It would probably have been much easier for them to go by spoken landmarks and relaying what’s around them. Not saying that it’s an excuse, just giving an alternative reason to laziness.

I think you had easy instructions. You weren’t asking much and you weren’t wrong. I will say sometimes uber gps isn’t that great and we need to contact people to get clarification that we are definitely in the right place. You weren’t rude, but if I was texting you I would have thought, “thanks for the help geez…” BUT I would have still delivered your order and would have had no problem texting instead of driving, even if it took me awhile to find your place. Basically you weren’t in the wrong at all, the driver is very much in the wrong and he is gross for whatever he did to your food. Sorry some drivers are so unprofessional and I have no idea why these people in the comments think you are the problem and had too long of instructions. The instructions were to help, it’s not that hard to read a couple sentences….

2

u/BrainSea7776 2d ago

On Uber you can change your tip to 0.00 after you get your order. This is the best feature on the app

2

u/randert 2d ago

I just want to know why if you can text from the tub why you can't talk from the tub?

2

u/PreviousStrategy1290 2d ago

If you want your food, I'd probably talk to the person bringing it.

7

u/mynameisbasicaf 2d ago edited 2d ago

its our obligation as drivers to do the best we can with what we're given. if the customer can't answer, I do the best I can, message profusely in an attempt to get the food to the right address. and if they still cannot answer, I leave it where common sense would lead me to leave it. and CERTAINLY would NOT leave it how this driver did. absolutely fucking ridiculous.

You caused this issue. I’m not defending the driver’s choice to toss the food in the grass, that was inappropriate. But your attitude and refusal to assist the driver in finding your house is the reason you had this happen to you. If you want your food, maybe don’t argue with the driver when they ask for help to find you. Your initial instructions were obviously not clear to the driver (and you admit that you were aware there was an issue with the GPS directions), and come off as rude. It was late and dark, and many drivers are using the app’s translation feature to read it in their own language. They are also driving, which means they have to pull over to read and send texts. Drivers work on very tight time schedules. You should make yourself available to assist the driver in finding your house if you’re going to order delivery. Refusal to do so is just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Bro they’re driving a fucking car and you’re expecting them to either pull over & stop to respond or text and drive? You’re insufferable. If you don’t want your food to be fucked with then don’t screw w the person who’s handling it. Fuck around and find out type shit🤣

2

u/Objective-Detective- 3d ago

You were very rude in the messages so I’m not surprised somebody didn’t want to put up with it. I am kinda glad this happened to you

If you can’t see at night, don’t deliver at night.
If you can’t follow instructions or read, don’t deliver at all.

Most of the time I get an address & that’s it. Makes it fun at night, but I’d never text & then throw their food. It’s not a hard job, especially with all of the technology at our disposal.

1

u/shooting_ropes_far 2d ago

You didn’t have to go that far lol

1

u/Cloutian 2d ago

A box from Amazon, we can figure out after I get out the bath. My food that being left outside while its raining (clearly raining from OPs photo) is the dumbest thing I could do as a customer next to taking a bath while it's on its way while I actively know it's raining. Not too mention my food of choice typically comes in a paper bag, can easily topple over in wind and can melt.

You got your order and the subsequent results for poor decision making. Congrats 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

1

u/bXmarley305 2d ago

It’s crazy bc the speaker reads the delivery instructions to you when you get to the destination.

1

u/OriginalPurplefinger 2d ago

It’s almost as if only losers can do this job cuz no other place will tolerate them.

1

u/Kd29333 2d ago

Driver clearly cannot follow instructions and that’s obviously a huge problem. Also, you were rude, it was late and dark so your attitude is annoying.

Both can be true.

1

u/tortie_toes 2d ago

What’s this driver going to do if someone deaf orders 😬

1

u/Aware-Damage-1124 2d ago

Not obligated but it doesn’t hurt to be polite

1

u/WedgeAntelope 2d ago

I mean it certainly helps, but no you’re not

1

u/Yaughl 2d ago

You don’t text someone who’s obviously driving. This is why you need to accept voice communication.

1

u/beavertr 2d ago

Well deserved

1

u/scareyburrito 2d ago

I would want to see what ur instructions look like to determine more. REGARDLESS, ruining your order is an asshole move

1

u/aeroncaine22 2d ago

Based on whatever you may think or feel about the person you're delivering too, if YOU are choosing to do this to their food, that's on YOU.

1

u/Breatheme444 2d ago

For the tip you’d have to specifically tell DoorDash to return it.

1

u/profyoz 2d ago

I will say that I understand customers can’t always answer they’re phone (I do daytime deliveries so a lot of the time my customers are at work). As a large city driver I appreciate the ones that leave directions (even if sometimes the directions themselves are written like a drunk pirate is trying to guide me to Tortuga) but if I absolutely can’t find a place there’s literally a button for that in the help section to cancel.

You have a right to be frustrated, there’s no excuse for throwing a customers order on their lawn like that. Emotional regulation is important for any job and I’d be upset too. I’ve wanted to chuck the order at someone’s head more than once but you just deal with it or cancel, there’s no good reason for that.

Well, if there was a bear or something maybe but otherwise no.

1

u/ryu1revline 2d ago

This is how I've always imagined two bad drivers would interact with each other. It would be funny if OP is secretly a driver.

1

u/rubytiiger 2d ago

LMAO the frosty picture 😭

1

u/Okepser 2d ago

Both are in the wrong. Just be nice, so simple...

1

u/MisterQuiver 2d ago

I don’t agree with the drivers actions at all and seeing that pisses me off quite honestly. But to everyone’s point, you are in part to blame. And your failure to recognize that and own up to it makes you look childish. At this point in time, you both suck. Do better

1

u/Discerningselection 2d ago

At my job, a job I chose out of my own free will and can leave and look for another one if I choose, the expectation is for me to get the job done correctly. When drivers expect the person ordering to do their job for them is infuriating. Do it right, or go do something better suited for yourself.

1

u/MadDog5129 2d ago

This is why people should stop using UE / DD. People should NEVER tip BEFORE you receive any service! Guaranteed lose lose situation for you.
