UK Dear Ubereats, you constantly pushing the delivery time back and back, doesnt mean my order is still "on time"

Honestly, I think the era of these delivery apps is nearing there end.

As someone with severe anxiety, this have a been a lifeline.

But regularly having to wait over an hour while drivers deliver multiple deliveries to end up with cold food.

This app is infuriating.

Yes, it's so ridiculous. At least with Doordash if they're off with their estimation you can get a little $5 apology through the chat bot after so long. Uber just pretends the order being late never happened. I'd always recommend to get food yourself whenever possible, but for some it really isn't as possible as it is for others.

Yeah I think I'm going to cancel my Uber eats premium service. It's really not worth the hassle.

As a driver, majority of my delays are from the restaurant themselves not being ready, not because it's a multi order pickup.

Not excusing cold food though, lots of drivers don't use insulted bags.

Edit: Insulated.

I love being insulted by bags

u/skaapjagter May 02 '26

😂 didn't even see that.

I hope my bag is not insulted.

Yeah but you can tell when it's the delay at the restaurant or it was multiple deliveries cuz they tell you there will be multiple deliveries.

As a driver, most of the delays to you are restaurant related.

To the people using the service, the delays that affect them are due to additional stops made by the driver in the middle of their delivery.

u/skaapjagter May 02 '26

Yes, sure but I'm saying that me having 1-2 extra stops on the way are usually way faster than the time spent waiting for the food, not due to my driving.

Maybe in the US Uber allows for much larger gaps between drop off but whenever I get multiple pickups, the drop offs are within a km or just under a mile of each other at the most.

i started using doordash majority of the time because they’re way better in my area. drivers are a lot kinder and communicate more. also, they make sure the food is pretty secure from what i have noticed. again, purely anecdotal and really may just be the area i’m in.

Yes, this is so damn annoying. They just keep pushing it back 5 minutes until the food actually arrives.

This is actually insane lol.

This is the second time in the last week my food delivery has been massively delayed.

I ordered lunch today at around 1:15 PM with an estimated delivery time of 1:40 PM.

Driver #1 is apparently on the way to the restaurant. He gets about halfway there and then suddenly disappears from the app and gets replaced by another driver.

Delivery time gets pushed back 10 minutes.

A few minutes later, Driver #2 also vanishes.

Driver #3 enters the chat.

New delivery time: 1:57 PM.

At 2:05 PM, with my lunch now apparently on a cross-country expedition, I message customer service asking why drivers keep getting switched and why nobody has even picked up the food yet.

Their response is basically:

“Not sure what happened, but don’t worry! Your driver is on the way to the restaurant.”

Oh perfect. Very reassuring.

We go back and forth for a bit and then the customer service agent just disconnects the chat.

Amazing.

2:12 PM: The driver finally picks up my food.

Victory?

Absolutely not.

Now the app says he’s on his way… except he’s delivering someone else’s order first.

Then at 2:27 PM, I get this absolute masterpiece of a notification:

“Your delivery driver is on the way ahead of time, arriving at 2:42 PM.”

AHEAD OF TIME???

My brother in Christ, I ordered this food at 1:15.

The original delivery time was 1:40.

You are not “ahead of time.”

You are over an hour late and carrying my lunch around the city like it’s the Olympic fckin torch.

LOL.

Didn't UK recently push gig apps to clear out all illegals from their rolls. That's probably why. Not enough legal drivers for the customer base that was built up assuming an endless supply of illegals.

$5.00 20 minutes drive waiting period some breakfast place 15 to 25 minutes who pays this time??

1

u/Many-Performance-362 May 19 '26

None of the apps I know of pay for the time. That is just lost time and pay for the delivery driver (well, the customer too, if it's excessive waiting).

1

u/ShoddyEmu6298 Jul 07 '26

Will over pay for late delivery

1

u/bungerman Aug 21 '26

Ya, the customer service I spoke with after waiting over an hour said to rate the driver. No, it's your shitty app. I wouldn't have chosen food from the place that said 20 minutes if it was going to take an hour. I would have chosen something else. They are deceptive whem they also do not show you what time you actually ordered while you are waiting. Keep your Uber cash, I'm deleting your app.

As a driver who has been waiting 15 min for an order because restaurant and still not finished and has another order in car picked up previous. It’s the restaurant because the order restaurants were next door to one another. SMH all three deliveries are gonna be late

but it's really uber's fault. Rather than using actual times that are current with how long it's taking at whatever time of day, they always use the best possible time. Then, they'll bundle things saying they're close together in time when really one will finish way faster than another and they shouldnt have been bundled to begin with.

It is ridiculous, and I hate Uber.
I understand sometimes the restaurant may take longer to have the food ready. But I am complaining my drive.
It says the estimate is based on traffic, weather. But my order is delayed for 1 hour because the driver is too stupid, she was already 5 mins away from me, but keeps taking wrong way, and detoured so many times. Where the hell is the traffic and weather condition? And I even paid priority delivery.

It doesn't hurt to go get your food yourself. The only way it's profitable to deliver your food is by making multiple deliveries. You can always reheat your food in the microwave.

If you can't get food yourself, you are more than welcome to pay a neighbor or a friend to go get your food for you. That way, you get hot piping food. If I'm not getting paid $3 per mile, I'm not delivering your food even if you paid hefty Ubereats fees. So if you live 5 miles away from the restaurant you have to pay me atleast $7 tip if not more so I can get paid $11. You'll never have your food delivered if you don't tip well because most of the time, drivers are 7 miles or more away from the restaurant when they are called to get your 5 mile order. Now your 5 mile order is 12 miles for $11 pay not including the return back to the restaurant. No driver except someone who is offered a promotion will take your order. And even those with promotions don't like driving 18 miles for $10 especially with gas being expensive.

So you must be patient and reheat your food if it gets cold because sometimes the food is already cold by the time they find a driver. That's why it gets delivered late. Customers must pay a hefty fee plus minimum $2 per mile tips to ensure that they receive their order. If not, their order gets canceled after waiting 3 hours or more. Atleast a cold food is better than no food if you ask me.

Below is people whom I haven't delivered to today because it wasn't worth my time.

Look at you justifying the crazy service. And on top of that you're going to want a tip lol. The problem with most delivery drivers think the tip is the payment. No the tip is a reward for excellent service. The payment that they comes from Uber eats is your payment.

2

u/Still-Task-5137 May 02 '26

The payment that comes from Ubereats, Doordash, and Grubhub is small. With Ubereats, it is upto $4. $4 to deliver 6 miles without the tip. That's why I don't deliver to customers who don't tip. Sometimes Ubereats hides the nontipped order by combining it with a tipping order so that it may get delivered. We don't know how much a person tips or who tipped and who didn't until an hour after delivery. I just decline those nontipped orders because I pay $300 per month car insurance just so I can do deliveries and gas in California is over $6.30 per gallon. And in California, Ubereats only pays you per minute and per mile from the time you accept a delivery to the time you completed the delivery. I don't get paid for the time waiting for a delivery order. I don't get paid for the time driving back to the restaurant parking lot after completing a delivery. I don't get paid the miles driving back to the restaurant after completing a delivery. So here I am delivering an order 9 miles away and it takes me 40 minutes to complete it and they pay me $7 plus tips that the customer paid. After completing the delivery, I now have to return back to the restaurant unpaid 25 minutes plus the return 9 miles ALL ON MY DIME. If I'm relaxing at home 3 miles away from the restaurant, Ubereats won't send me offers. If I'm 2 miles away from the restaurant, Ubereats still will not send me an offer. Ubereats as well as Doordash expect me to be within .5 miles away from the restaurant in order to receive offers.

2

u/pseudo_nemesis May 01 '26

this is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, because if you don't tip well beforehand, then you're likely never going to get the excellent service that you demand because the "tip" isn't really a tip: given the way that the service is set up it's actually a bid for service.

1

u/Ja_Rule_Here_ May 02 '26

The tip is what Uber shows the driver to get them to accept the order. Call it a reward or a cookie or a trombone doesn’t matter, drivers use it to decide whether to accept or not. So if you leave a bad tip, you don’t get a driver, and you are waiting for the app to bundle you with someone else who did tip, or boost the base pay on your order out of necessity after 1.5 hours pass.
So you see, by not tipping, it has no effect on the driver. By the time your order gets to me, it’s $28 or $35 or bundles to make it that amount, I get paid either way, you are the one who has to wait and get cold food lol.
