UK I AM TIRED OF NOT GETTING A DRIVER

Can any driver, or returning customer let me know why every time I order on UberEats, I am met with the same thing, no driver, refund? I am really tired of this man. I tried even adding a very generous tip multiple times, and no driver. It’s not like there are no drivers, I know there are because they’ll deliver to friends and family, just seemingly never me? I mean I feel bad for the store I keep ordering from cause they keep having to get orders ready for my delivery and then 2 hours later having to put it back. I have gotten two out of TEN orders. I get that I live in a smaller area, but more stores round here are getting UberEats, so it must be going well enough for others to see and implement themselves. I’m just genuinely sick of this, I just want my food and drink honestly.

If you life in a area that's not busy the driver won't take it because they have to drive back to get back to a good area. In some cases its not worth it.

u/Optimal_Ant_7951 Jan 21 '26

I live about 8 minutes away from a busy area

u/jroberts67 Jan 21 '26

If no driver is assigning, one of two problems - not enough of a tip, distance too far.

-4

u/BannedWeazle Jan 21 '26

I never tip

1

u/RealisticDiscipline7 Jan 30 '26

As long as you dont tip bait.

1

u/BannedWeazle Jan 30 '26

I don’t tip at all

-2

u/Optimal_Ant_7951 Jan 21 '26

Both are impossible to be true, I live a 20 minute drive at MOST from this store, and I said in the post that I have tried multiple times giving a larger tip

19

u/jroberts67 Jan 21 '26

20 minutes is too far. That's 40 min round trip.

1

u/Optimal_Ant_7951 Jan 24 '26

at most, 8 minute drive when it’s not built up witb traffic

-6

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

You don't need a 'round trip'. Find yourself something in that area

9

u/seang239 Jan 21 '26

He said he’s noticing uber eats starting to show up in the area, it’s probably not widespread enough yet where he lives for that to work.

4

u/cyclop5 Jan 21 '26

not always possible. Believe it or not, there are areas around me where there's nothing available. I live right at the edge of rural and suburban. If I get stuck in the rural area? there's nothing around for 20 miles - just farmland. and if there is a restaurant or whatever? likely closed after 7pm.

-5

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

So you should find a better area to deliver

1

u/ObiWan_Cannoli_ Jan 21 '26

Lmfao what a fucking conceited argument

1

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

No, it’s called common fucking sense

As a driver, you need to be hanging out where the business is, not 20 miles away from it

Find yourself a place where there’s enough restaurants to warrant staying there , deliver around that area and go back.

You shouldn’t be going more than 5-10 miles in any direction

Again, common damn sense

0

u/cyclop5 Jan 23 '26

you.. are arguing both sides of the same thing. First you say - deliver it, and find something in the area. When someone says that's not always possible, you say go somewhere else. i.e. don't do the delivery there. I'm confused. Can you clarify your statements? Are you saying we _should_ make the 20 minute delivery to rural areas where there's (probably) no other deliveries, or are you saying we _shouldn't_?

u/cheeseymom Jan 21 '26

Hence why OP can't get a driver.

7

u/ArekuFoxfire Jan 21 '26

20 minute drive is probably the issue, it has to be a big tip ($10+) for me to take something like that when there's so many orders going less than 5 miles around me.

2

u/Slight-Selection4298 Jan 21 '26

40 minutes round trip, for $4 pay and $10 tip is a hard pass....

1

u/baby_budda Jan 21 '26

I'd want at least $40 for that distance.

0

u/ArekuFoxfire Jan 21 '26

Usually yes. But sometimes it's a slow night and I can get one on the way back. Just depends on the area.

2

u/MoobieDoobie Jan 21 '26

I drive for Spark(Walmart). 20 minute drive is a minimum $20 for me as its a $40 minute round trip. And even then, I dont take it because I also have to pick up the order. And it could depend on the store you are ordering from. I NEVER accepted KFC or Popeyes orders doing food delivery.

Uber is pretty much only giving the driver what you tip + ~$2. So if you dont tip $20, you probably won't get your order as 40 minutes round trip to get back to a good area won't fly with someone who respects their own time.

Sorry, I'm just saying how I look at it. Whole reason I stopped delivering for Uber and DD.

1

u/gerarar Jan 21 '26

Anything over 10 miles is a decline for me on Spark unless I’m heading in that direction or it pays really well.

Also gotta factor in the shopping time or pick up time. If latter most likely other stops included as well.

1

u/MoobieDoobie Jan 21 '26

I only take the 20 miles when I am done for the day and the trip takes me to the part of town I live. I live in BFE and drive 15 minutes to the nearest busy walmart.

And yea, I only do shop orders. And typically I get $20+ for 1-25 item orders with around 10 miles or less distance.

I really hate that spark tells you the distance in coordinate to coordinate instead of actual road distance though.

6

u/Jealous_Note_7495 Jan 21 '26

Have you tried ordering from another store? Sometimes drivers avoid any particular stores because of multiple reasons (slow service ,bad employees etc)

4

u/cyclop5 Jan 21 '26

it's entirely possible it's the place you're ordering from. In other words - there are places I won't even consider driving for no matter how big the tip. If it takes me 25 minutes of waiting for your food to be ready - I'm not going to do it. There are local places that I refuse to deliver for, exactly because of that. Add in a long drive to deliver it? Not going to happen. Not that I have anything against the customer - but it's not worth my time.

2

u/The_homeBaker Jan 21 '26

Yup. I have places that I won’t go to unless the pay is Really good and lower miles. But typically the wait time is too long or a gamble if it’s gonna be ready when I get there or have to wait 20mins.

No Red Robin’s, no Dickey’s BBQ, no Popeyes, no Olive Garden, no Buffalo Wild Wings.

1

u/Particular_Cable_721 Jan 21 '26

and where you are is big too; here both the Bdubs I go to are ready right away late and within 5 minutes even on gamedays. I’m not complaining about waiting 5 minutes.

11

u/Slight-Selection4298 Jan 21 '26

Lack of tip for sure. Don't even look at no tip orders, decline.

4

u/EquivalentDue9514 Jan 21 '26

They literally said they tip well

3

u/Substantial_Quote583 Jan 21 '26

Doesn't mean that they actually do, though. It's got to be worth it to go out to wherever they are and possibly get stuck with no other orders on the way back

1

u/Slight-Selection4298 Jan 21 '26

Because people on the internet tell the truth, right?

2

u/EquivalentDue9514 Jan 21 '26

Lying implies they know tipping low is the problem. In that case why would they even make the post?

Yes, it is . Nobody is going to pay your sorry ass $2/mile for their food. Nobody.

Go back to a real job

3

u/cheeseymom Jan 21 '26

Nobody is going to deliver at a loss either so go get it yourself.

1

u/Altruistic_Box4462 Jan 22 '26

🤣👍

There becomes a point where you have to realize ordering delivery isn't worth it for the driver or the customer. The apps don't pay enough, and from a customer's POV... Who can afford a $20+ tip these days, and from the driver's POV you're making peanuts.

-1

u/ObiWan_Cannoli_ Jan 21 '26

Lmao what a child you are

2

u/DigitalMariner Jan 21 '26

There are so many variables some more information would be useful.

1) what are you ordering? Groceries? Fast food? a bunch of drinks? etc..

2) where are your ordering? Is it a specific chain (some are more notoriously difficult among drivers than others)? Local mom and pop shop?

3) where is this relative to you? Same town? A few towns over? Roughly how many miles between you two? How long is that in average traffic? Is that on surface streets or do they need a highway? or do they need crazy rural roads?

4) where are you? No not your address or even your state (well country might help if not US)... But single family suburban home? High rise apartments in a city? Smaller appartmens without elevators? Office building? Warehouse? Hotel? Seedy motel? Gated community? Trailer park? On a rural 2 lane road in east bumblefuck? Hgh crime area? Area with no parking?

5) what's around you, restaurant wise? Are there big clusters of other shops and restaurants where a driver could expect to get more orders from?

6) when are you ordering? Weekends? Weekdays? Morning, noon, or night? Is it prime meal times (7-9a, 11a-1p, 4-8p)? Is it overnight? Is it close to closing time for the store? Is it overnights?

7) what's the weather like when you're ordering?

8) define "generous tip" in amount of cash, not percentages.

9) is this exclusively an Uber issue or do you have similar issues using other delivery apps?

With some more information we can possibly give you a better sense of what the drivers are seeing on their screen and why that may be unappealing to them when deciding to accept or not.

But to be honest, it's usually money. Regardless of what any of us think about the compensation system with these apps, generally the driver is getting just a couple of bucks from the app but the majority of their pay is the customer's tip.

That said, and I know it's not most people's preference but money is something easy to fix by literally throwing more money at the problem. There's an Italian place in my area where delivery pickups are routinely a 75 minute wait during dinner rush. So I won't accept their orders unless it's paying $40+ to compensate for that lost time. I also generally refuse long distances because unless it pays well I can't afford to spend an hour on one order. But last month I drove nearly 20 miles (all highway, after rush hour) for $38 and was back where I started 45 minutes after accepting. Every time I get stuck in this one housing project with confusing streets and no parking I swear at myself for taking it and say never again, but then a few months later a $20 order from a mile away comes through and I say fuck it and head back in there...

For just about every objection a driver might have, there is usually a sum of money that will overcome it... And that will likely be the ultimate solution for you, it's just if that extra money is worth it to have things delivered or not.

But yeah, you can probably get better insight into the WHY of it all if you shared more info so we can put ourselves in the driver's shoes

3

u/Weary_Review_4147 Jan 21 '26

Probably tipping low

6

"I tried even adding a very generous tip multiple times, and no driver"

Man, Reddit is really exhausting. If you guys can't read one paragraph, don't comment.

I was taking their word for it since this is an ongoing problem. I imagine they would raise the tip high enough at least one or two of these times. And they have had orders delivered, but not the times they tipped generously

1

u/Pepsiman1031 Jan 21 '26

They live 20 minutes away from a restaurant. It's likely that they don't realize how much a tip that warrants.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '26

So you were there to verify thier tip? This is reddit. People can type anything they want to make their argument.

Im the president of the United States.

Does that make me president? Yeah, you're exhausting.

Grow a pair of common sense. There's a pattern. The pattern is something you overlooked by one sentence. Think (meme).

1

u/EquivalentDue9514 Jan 21 '26

They're in the UK where tipping is less of a thing, if at all. And yeah, I assume if they're posting this after 8/10 orders not being delivered, including the ones where they tipped, that there's something else going on possibly.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '26

They could live in Wales. Which im very familiar with. Dodgy roads and little lighting.

Wales is basically agriculture area.

I cant think of a smart driver going out there where there is no action and low tip

Oofff.. I guess it's a market thing.

2

u/Weary_Review_4147 Jan 21 '26

Yeah I seen another post where someone said something similar just to tell us he tipped 3$ some people think 3$ is a generous tip 😂😂

2

u/Optimal_Ant_7951 Jan 21 '26

You’re a legend btw

-1

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

they don't read, that's the problem

2

u/EquivalentDue9514 Jan 21 '26

It's every sub and it's so annoying. On the dog advice sub people will post that they went to the vet multiple times but can't resolve a certain issue. Every comment is

Go to the vet

Take her to the vet

I can't believe people post on Reddit instead of going to the vet

1

u/Altruistic_Box4462 Jan 22 '26

Customers don't know what a generous tip is.

I have a 100% satisfaction rate, and am a great delivery slave. If your order is 10+ miles into a rural area where I know I'll get no orders until I get back in town, no tip under $20 is worth it. And I myself wouldn't even tip $20. OP is just far as hell and makes no sense to deliver to.

u/Ok_Analysis_1004 Jan 21 '26

My answer would have been no tip but the tipping culture in the UK isn’t the same as North America so maybe it’s the store u order from? if not only thing I can think of is ur neighborhood might be in a bad area

3

u/Optimal_Ant_7951 Jan 21 '26

I live in a very posh area, I mentioned that I tipped and sometimes generously, plus you’re right about tipping culture not really a thing at all here

1

u/dmoney143 Jan 21 '26

Maybe it is where you are located. I know if I’m too far from maybe getting another order and having to drive back the 15-20 minutes it is not worth the trip.

1

u/Primary-Ad9318 Jan 21 '26

Unereats logs out a huge number of non platinum drivers now.

1

u/Future_Matter1737 Jan 21 '26

Are you ordering long distance? Ubereats is notorious for showing you available restaurants to order from that are 30 miles away

1

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

Just because there are drivers that deliver to f&f at other times doesn't mean there are drivers when **you** want the food, close to **you**

Location is key here. It's most likely that you're in a location that is not centralized, and drivers know they're not going to get any sort of value from the order itself, so they're not going to take it

1

u/IndependenceFit7624 Jan 21 '26

What is the mileage and travel time from the pickup location to your home?

Are you on the first floor? Easy access?

What other UE partnered businesses are nearby? You can check this in the app.

1

u/hitlicks4aliving Jan 21 '26

That’s good all the drivers should quit because the pay is criminal

1

u/baby_budda Jan 21 '26

Maybe some of the drivers in your area have blocked you some reason.

1

u/Particular_Cable_721 Jan 21 '26

This was my thought maybe the person who lived there before was a poor tipper so they blocked the customers and that actually blocks the address.

But if he’s lived there for a while then I’d be out of options on what’s causing it outside of terrible luck or maybe the restaurant they’re ordering from just doesn’t understand how to use DoorDash from their end.

0

u/Pepsiman1031 Jan 21 '26

Drivers can't block customers.

1

u/baby_budda Jan 21 '26

Yes they can. They do it by contacting uber support and having them blocked.

1

u/djangogator Jan 21 '26

Maybe lack of tip. Maybe you live in a scary place and drivers don't wanna go there.

1

u/mikeymo1741 Jan 21 '26

Where are you ordering from?

-3

u/scoobysnack64 Jan 21 '26

sounds like the place you order from is keeping the tips.

2

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

that's not how that works

1

u/Particular_Cable_721 Jan 21 '26

I just want to take a moment of my time to apologize for the many fellow drivers that obviously cannot read and did not pay attention at all to what you said.

Maybe just MAYBE, someone lived in that house before that was a tip baiter, and most of the drivers caught on. I know on DD they have a way to block customers through the safety function too… But I find that highly unlikely.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '26

[deleted]

2

u/twhiting9275 Jan 21 '26

Again, not how that works

The restaurant has ZERO control over the money you give to the app. None. They don’t even know IF you gave the driver a tip
