Question Recreating Starter Set with only Rebel ships?
A friend of mine really wants to try out Armada and I thought about just playing with the base set to ease him into the game. However, I only own a Rebel fleet (another friend collected the Empire's ships).
What do you think is the best substitute for the Victory-class from the starter set? An Assault Frigate has rougly the same point costs, but is quicker and has less hull. An MC80 is as slow and sturdy as a Victory-class, but way more expensive.
And for the TIEs, would you chose the Z-95 or rather some A-wings?

Yeah, just make up a 200/400 point game with ships he'll know from his favourite film, put a simple to use admiral on it and one or two cards on the ships. Same with fighters, I recommend giving them a couple of rogues as they are forgiving of bew players. Han/Lando are good, Hera (Ghost) is too as pairing her uo with some Y-Wings (easier to fly than B-Wings for a beginner) is a great beast to play with.
Then just go fairly easy on him.
I did a starter game for my friend the other day for a Friend who likes A-Wings and The Battle of Scarif, so I set him up with an MC-75A, A nebulon and a Hammerhead, Hera and some Y-Wings and a few X and A Wings. He loved it.

Early on in my experience with the game I used to run a home brew where Imperial remnant factions steal an MC-75 (I only had Rebel large bases) so if he wants to play thr Empire tell him that's what's happening 🤣.

Has anyone thought to sell rebel or imperial 'starter' fleet for people trying to get into the game? Bring together a few basic ships and a squad pack plus core components.

I would focus more on using friendly ships, for example, give him an assault frigate and a CR90, while you use a Nebulon and a Pelta. Once he figures out ships, add some Z-95 and Y-wings for your side while he uses X-wings. Try to keep upgrades to a minimum, I would add skilled first officer to the AF MK 2
