Question First play

I learned of Armada way too late. I never even put it on my list to own as the second hand market prices seem too steep for me. Recently, I found a LGS that had it in their library and played it for the first time. I’m simultaneously hooked and absolutely blown away at how much fun this game is. Games with such relatively simple rules that allow the depth of play to shine through feel more and more rare. I’m really kicking myself that I didn’t get in on this years ago. Is there hope that the FF Vault might reproduce in a crowdfunding or am I just stuck with the second hand market?

I can’t recommend 3d printing enough. Yes it is a little bit of a hobby of its own but it is a real cheap way to get ships!

Welcome to the fleet, admiral! Thankfully there’s a lot of 3d printing options plus the second hand market.

Thank you! Where does one go for the 3d printing options?

Welcome! Others have offered great advice so far, but I wanted to add that there is also a very healthy community that plays online via Tabletop Simulator. Games take a little bit longer than in person, but once you get the hang of it, the difference is not too much. (Worth noting that TTS is currently only $10 on Steam, on sale.)

Great tip! I love TTS. Is there a discord or something where to find fellow players?

There are many! I'll send you a DM with an invite link to one of the largest ones.

I got a Bambulab A1 mini to print my little ships and it's worked out great.

Squadrons dont do so well with FDM printing though.

What's the FF Vault? Anything about this has completely slipped past my radar.

Basically late last year, Fantasy Flight announced this program where they were going to use crowdfunding to try to bring back older, out of print games for new reprints. It was fairly vague and so far I don't recall anything they've actually done with the program. There's speculation on where games like Armada and Imperial Assault would fall with this program between licenses and whether Disney would allow Crowdfunding on a Star Wars IP. So, it's possible this could be a way that Armada could return but I haven't seen much about the program since it was announced.

I'll just add to the doubt with one piece of information. The game was not under FFG anymore, but had been forked over to AMG. And they still hold the license for Star Wars miniatures games.

Huh. I'm a bit dubious, given the startup costs of remaking the molds for the minis, but interesting.
