I am using a VR mod for this game and it's the best experience I have ever had on VR.

I really want to give VR a try! What program?

73

u/waba2 2h ago

I'm guessing the UEVR mod? it's a sort of universal but people have built profiles for specific games, check the flat2vr discord

Download Discord and set up an account.

Search the aforementioned user.

Do you point a desk-fan at your face while playing?

u/Kelmor93 2h ago

4 Maxx Air Pro Flex Series 48 in. 2-Speed Belt Drive Drum Fan only way to go. Make sure chair is welded to floor.

u/relator_fabula 2h ago

Make sure you're welded to the chair

And this point it's impossible to say where pilot ends and chair starts.

He's more machine than man, now

And a buddy to throw sand at you.

5

u/Kriieod 1h ago

And another buddy to take random pot shots at you

4

u/tlynde11 1h ago

While you scream "it's working!"

6

u/claytoniss 1h ago

I hate sand

3

u/blobcatgoldthwait 1h ago

It’s coarse and rough and irritating.

3

u/TenshiS 56m ago

And it gets everywhere

I know this is tongue-in-cheek but we do have wind sims which are used frequently in the sim racing community.

The fans are controlled via an Arduino which takes game telemetry via simhub and makes the fans respond dynamically.

I have a special rig for WW2 flight sims that blows broken glass and hot oil into my face every time I take a 20mm cannon round to the cockpit

That sounds like a quick way to barf! How has the motion sickness been?

64

u/CarsonWentzGOAT1 3h ago

I have limited myself to 12 minute sessions and I have only done regular speeders because it does make my head hurt a little.

20

u/peanutbuttahcups 2h ago

Worth it lol. Sounds immersive af.

u/Neither-Signature-81 2h ago

Idk why this seems so unappealing lol

u/TurmUrk 43m ago

It is. You (most people) eventually get ‘vr legs’ and the motion sickness and headaches go away if you regularly use it for a bit, but for me say if I play a vr game for a few nights and then don’t used my headset again for a few weeks, I get to start all over with the motion sickness and headaches, now I just mentally associate my headset with feeling like shit lol.

Same. When I was playing Pavlov every night in the glory days I was fine, but as I’ve pulled away from VR due to a distinct lack of a killer app, I’ve lost my tolerance almost entirely. Now when I look at the headset I see malaise.

You get acclimated to it. Unlike the other user that said their acclimation goes away in a short amount of time, mine doesn't. I can play for hours and not feel it at all.

Hard to play games any other way now.

The default clamps rotation to the track and not your racer, so steep banks the racer just rotates but the camera doesn't so motion sickness wasn't even close to a problem for me

That said I did try some bike races where I clamped to the vehicle instead and it was wicked for immersion and I think there is some setup where you track how far off your head is from center so you can use tilting your body to do the turns, but idk how to start with actually implementing that so went back to the default.

u/Kastrand 2h ago

there's a VR game like this, ur on a motorcycle and you strafe left and right with head movements. very wicked fun. headset is dead rn so i'll update with the name later

2

u/IcyTransportation961 2h ago

Vracer

1

u/Kastrand 34m ago

yes there's that, which is super fun! and now that i think about it, there's actually a second one, called RUNNER, which is an only forward, on rails combat/racing style game where you're trying to escape a city. very fun as well

star wars starfighter was really good in VR - if ithat didnt give me motion sickness this will be a breeze

7

u/withoutapaddle 2h ago

I assume you mean Squadrons? "Starfighter" is the upcoming film.

1

u/ChaosCelebration 1h ago

Squadrons in VR with a HOTAS setup was the most fun I've ever had or will ever have in a video game. Everything I ever wanted growing up was fulfilled in that experience.

2

u/homer_3 1h ago

That shit was peak. We need more HOTAS VR games.

1

u/Mastershroom Lando Calrissian 59m ago

Elite Dangerous if you want something similar to Squadrons but with more realistic spaceflight physics including lateral and vertical thrust, and the whole galaxy to explore with ships ranging from essentially a Honda Civic to your own naval corvette. You can participate in the galactic economy or fight rival factions or pirates or mine asteroids for resources, really do whatever you want.

1

u/TurmUrk 40m ago

I don’t think Star Wars fans or squadrons players want realistic space flight physics, they want to ww2 dogfight with lasers and proton torpedoes.

1

u/CarrowCanary 1h ago

It was also the game from 2001. Putting VR into that would be interesting...

1

u/ArchieTheKatt 1h ago

Pretty sure they mean the game released in 03. Star Wars: Starfighter.

4

u/IcyTransportation961 2h ago

Vr motion sickness really isn't a thing once you get used to it.  There have been games with 6 degrees of motion (drone style) since early days

4

u/mac4112 2h ago

Whoah, as a PSVR2 user consider me intrigued. Is it as good as Wipeout VR?

1

u/Due_Passion_920 2h ago

Impossible, nothing is.

2

u/nickulo 1h ago

VRacer Hoverbike is close. Would love to have this game on PSVR2 though.

9

u/happyevil 3h ago

When I saw there was no official VR support for this I was a little sad. Good to see mods filling in

3

u/stevieraykatz 3h ago

What hardware are you using, headset and otherwise?

4

u/iamsocks2 2h ago

Man how do modders figure out how to incorporate VR into games in like a week, but the game studios can't officially bring it to the game...

8

u/Krytan 2h ago

The mods are made by nerds, and the game are made by game studios.

2

u/BrainDeadZero 1h ago

These days, probably with some AI assistance.

1

u/TurmUrk 38m ago

Tbf most vr mods I’ve tried are janky, buggy, or just have enough usability issues that if they were released officially I would think less of the company, I’ve modded mechwarrior 5 for vr and it’s jank enough it would be embarrassing as a paid product

2

u/AdministrativeAd9828 3h ago

can we get a video?

1

u/MasterChiefmas 2h ago

Do you still have to use a controller, or can you map the motion controllers to mimic how they are in the movie?

1

u/MusicHitsImFine 1h ago

Do you think the PSVR2 would work with the VR mod?

1

u/Donc-qui-et-Quand64 1h ago

Imagine playing this in an oldschool afterburner cabinet with the motorized hydraulic/mechanical hardware
