Actually in in this case too despite taking shower at night (and often in the morning too), it stains all my shirts the same way, that's why my mattress has a waterproof protection. My son has inherited that from me and his sweat does the same since he's born. Well takes little more than "few days" though.

u/StochasticLife 15h ago
This is an inability to break down a specific protein I think, and one of the ways you get rid of it is sweat. Does it visibly darken your urine?

Same! I work a dirty ass job, so I shower before I leave and as soon as I get home at night and my side of the bed gets gross in about 4 days anyway, so we end up washing/swapping sheets at least twice a week :S drives the wife nuts lol
35
u/pokepink 14h ago
I can see why. A quick suggestion maybe is to put a towel down on your side or a cotton blanket and it'll be easier to wash that. Than the whole bed.
ALSO make sure your sheets are all cotton and cooling. The polyesters are Awful.

Make sure you use all cotton sheets and not those awful polyester or synthetic fabric that is too hot and add towel or blanket on your side for easy washingand replacing.

I shower every evening just before bed.
I do alot of night sweating so my side looks a bit like this, however not nearly to this extent.
Just to add some nuance, some of us are sadly born this way.
The headboard though? Must come from unwashed hair?
42
u/Apprehensive_Ad3731 14h ago
Could be but personally, my head sweats a lot and it is really bad.
It doesn’t matter when I shower so it same thing.
My sweating has more to do with anxiety and shallow breathing so it’s an all over thing and not isolated to hot areas as heat sweating would be.

I'm not a night shower person, and my sheets have never, ever, looked like that.
There's a golden rule of showering - regardless of when your 'main' shower is; if you've done something to become filthy, then you need another shower.
75
u/Needles2650 15h ago
Could also be tobacco use. I shower right before bed yet all my pillows are stained kind of a dark yellow, I guess because my sweat is full of tar or something from all the smoking

I shower ever morning and never have this issue. I'm the only one in my bed.
I mean how can the headboard be that dirty? I've had my bed 10 years and still looks new.

It's exactly why our dogs aren't allowed upstairs in our house. I absolutely can not cope with dog dick juice and hair all over the bed. We have 2 big dogs and they also shed a fair bit.
I remember going round my friends house and he asked my to grab something from his bedroom. It fucking stank in there and I asked if he had recently hooked up with someone and he said no and he changed the sheets like two days ago... However, he has long haired dogs that sleep on the bed throughout the day/night. He literally can't smell it because it's what he's used to but my god did it stink lol.

If you have any kind of construction job, or work as a mechanic or something then you really need to be showering as soon as you get home and changing into clean clothes. For me when I have done dirty work like that I usually showered in the morning and when I get home since I like showering and getting cleaned up first thing in the morning.
But yeah, when I have worked less dirty jobs simply showering in the morning is fine.

I keep making this argument, but it falls on deaf ears for morning shower bros probably cuz they still got water clogged up in their ears.
So i go to bed, clean, my bed is clean. Then i wear clean clothes and go to work. THERE and after work i cant really control how dirty i get. But it doesnt matter as i will clean it off when im home, repeating the cycle of cleanliness. And the reason why you feel dirty when you get up is because you have your daystank marinate you in your bed for 7-8 hours.

I don't understand why people don't shower both before going out and after getting back home
9
u/kiwi2703 13h ago edited 13h ago
If I showered last night and I don't sweat during the night, there's no reason to take a shower in the morning - at least in my climate. I understand that in hot and humid countries more showers might be necessary (or people who genetically sweat or stink more).
Another thing is the fact that stripping your skin of natural protective oils too often is not great for your skin and can lead to dryness and irritation.

u/NoTmE435 13h ago

It depends how long your shower is. If you're doing a second shower in one day it's probably more of a quick clean of key areas and an overall rinse for a couple of minutes than an extra long shower.
Personally, I typically do one shower in the morning except if I got really sweaty or dirty, then I'll shower when I'm done doing the activity that made me gross, but the second shower is pretty quick.

I always shower after I come back home and I never leave once I have showered. If I absolutely have to, then I shower again. I can't bring the outside stuff on my bed.
I sweat at night too because I run hot, even in winters. But it never gets this bad. I once couldn't change my sheets for over two months due to some circumstances keeping me very busy and even then it wasn't this bad, not even close. It just wasn't as white as it was and it was easily removed after one wash.
This seems like a case of poor hygiene and/or some physical condition.

Some people in this thread will actually wake up, shower in the morning, go to work, use public toilets, walk around with their feet inside barely breathable socks/shoes all day, and then get home and argue that they’re clean and can just get into bed at night.
Fucking gross.
- Shower before bed, bed stays cleaner for longer.
- if you’re sweating at night, sleep with the window open under a thin blanket.
- if you’re still sweating, put a fan blowing directly over you.
- If it’s so warm at night that you’re still sweating, invest in some AC because your sleep quality must be horrendous if it’s that hot.
- If you can’t afford AC, shower in the evening and the morning.
- If you can’t afford to shower twice a day and have to actually ration your use of the shower, then I’m sorry that you’re in such a situation.
But for goodness sake, if the climate you live in is so hot that an open window and fan at night cannot stop you sweating profusely, then the climate in the daytime must be absolutely horrendous and you absolutely will be caked in sweat after a day doing anything that isn’t inside an AC zone, so you should be showering morning and night regardless.
10
u/ThoughtFlow 12h ago
Some people have sweat disorders, temperature doesn't really affect it the way you think.
I have a form of hyperhidrosis and regardless of what I do or dont do my face and head decide its time to sweat profusely for no reason, only thing that seems to help it oddly enough is when i smoke cannabis, obviously I can't really do that when im asleep though

If you still sweat, drink more water.
It won’t stop you sweating, but more toxins will be flushed by pee, making your sweat less gross.3
u/riepmich 11h ago
use public toilets
Couldn't be me. I pee on the urinal but if I have to go number two I'm holding that shit in for dear life.
Only two times in my life I sat down on a public toilet (hotels not included, but I have my cleaning supplies with me).
You know the story about the gummy bears that make you have diarrhea? I ate a couple of hands full of them before going into a Marvel movie without knowing about their effect.
During the trailers I got the most intense stomach pain and it growled so loud that the people in front and behind of me looked at me.
But I was really looking forward to the movie so I decided to stay. It came in waves. Every 15 minutes I was sure that this was the one and I was gonna shit myself, but I got through the whole movie and the 30 minute drive home.

Can't offer help in preventing it. But maybe some homemade cleaning goop would help. 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Dawn dish soap, 3 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide, mixed together........ you might need more. Use gloves, it's strong. Apply it to the stain and wash. Works on dishes and general surfaces. Just rinse thoroughly, I keep finding patches of dried baking soda from not rinsing properly.

If I’m working I have a shower twice a day. I’m a veterinarian and essentially feel very unclean after my overnight shift. So I’ll have a short one when I wake up in the afternoon, to “wake up”., Then, a short one in the morning before sleeping. I wear a shower cap for that so my shoulder length hair isn’t wet on my pillow. Goodness knows what bodily fluids/bacteria/viruses got on me or soaked into my scrubs.
