Even it does.

What's he gonna do ?

Cry with the millions of dollars that he earned from Spotify alone

Ed Sheeran makes an estimated $30 million to $40 million per year from Spotify alone.

He also has a massive Properties portfolio

The shape of him is: £

u/brynaldo 27d ago

£d Sh££ran

I guess it matters if Ed got "the wealth sickness". It's that illness people get when they have that much money. The one Rogan got.  The one where your core beliefs and constitution becomes intertwined with all that fucking money and you become a giant tool of the wealth. You become Elon.

2

u/ReasonableDig6414 27d ago

You have wealth illness. I have wealth illness.

I won't go into headquarters and scream free palestine. Why? Because I will be fired and not be able to provide for my family. So I will keep my politics to myself at work, just like you will.

10

u/Suspicious-Click-300 27d ago

Stop pretending like cancel culture is still a thing. You would get fired if you go into headquarters and scream anything cause thats crazy.

3

u/Big-Stuff-1189 27d ago

BOB SAGET!

10

u/defenestrating 27d ago

I think there's a critical difference between "millionaire set for life refuses to earn slightly smaller piles of money" and "normal person refuses to risk homelessness and desolation"

It's not "wealth illness" to not want to compromise essentials, like housing, food, and access to healthcare.

3

u/Dumeck 27d ago

Well you're not your own boss there's a difference.

1

u/Cujo22 27d ago

Nobody "screamed" free Palestine. But I see the point you are trying to make. I think you could give some effort and think harder.

3

u/Ghost_oh 27d ago

“Nobody ‘screamed’ free Palestine.”

Macklemore did. That’s like… the core component of all of this drama.

0

u/SnooBananas4958 27d ago

Yes because you need to work to survive. These artists don’t and can afford the risk. It’s wild that you can’t tell the difference between the two.

26

u/STFUnicorn_ 27d ago

Damn. He must have a lot of songs.

38

u/Albinofreaken 27d ago

"Ed Sheeran has roughly 350 to 380 individual tracks available on Spotify, including his main studio albums, deluxe editions, collaborations, and featured guest spots."

108

u/Jean_Luc_Dikard 27d ago

And they all sound exactly the fucking same.

3

u/tunable_sausage 27d ago

Lol, beat me to it. I literally cannot tell one song from another.

21

u/ReasonableDig6414 27d ago

Good news is you don't have to listen to them.

17

u/Jean_Luc_Dikard 27d ago

Unless you happen to be near anywhere playing anything on a radio station, anywhere in the world.

16

u/Blasphemiee 27d ago

or you walk into a fucking grocery store honestly im w you.

1

u/booze_clues 27d ago

My grocery store was playing Paint It Black for some reason a couple weeks ago.

4

u/jeobleo 27d ago

I've literally never heard one!

1

u/Zeri-coaihnan 27d ago

Sorry who is this Ted Suredone we’re all talking about?

1

u/AddlePatedBadger 27d ago

Maybe you have and didn't know it.

2

u/jeobleo 27d ago

I don't listen to the radio and I don't have spotify. But maybe. I think he was in game of thrones? Did he sing in that one?

1

u/AddlePatedBadger 27d ago

No idea. You mayve overhead him ina supermarket or something.

1

u/veverkap 27d ago

Or just listen to one of them over and over

2

u/AddlePatedBadger 27d ago

"I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sound exactly the same, In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly the same.”

  • Angus Young, AC⚡️DC

If you have a good thing going, might as well stick with it. Sheeran's not my style of music but if people like what he puts out then I'm not going to judge him. When you have a goldmine, keep digging out the gold, don't start focusing on gravel.

2

u/SmootherWorm 27d ago

He also has written a bunch of songs for other performers, so he still makes money if people avoid his songs out of protest.

1

u/Tuomas90 27d ago

Jesus! I have nothing against Ed, but if you put out 380 songs, there must be a lot of crap in it. Quantity over quality. I mean that's the equivalent of about 33 studio albums! That should be at least 70 years worth of work!

Kinda reminds me of Dua Lipa (which I'm a fan of) talking about her latest album. She proudly said she had written something like 40 or 50 songs on tour. Girl, if those songs on the album are the best of the best of 50 songs, then that's nothing to be proud of. It's really not the flex you think it is...uff...

1

u/Weird-Knee-3464 27d ago

Not true necessarily of course.

1

u/GingerIsTheBestSpice 27d ago

Plus he writes for others. Love yourself by beiber, animal by katseye, a bunch of one direction, etc etc.

1

u/No-Clue-9155 27d ago

What a beg

9

u/morph23 27d ago

It's called spotifymaxxing

3

u/Naps_in_sunshine 27d ago

He writes a lot for other people too.

1

u/HungusHodorphus 27d ago

He's also a prominent songwriter for other artists like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, One Direction, BTS, and a lot more.

-3

u/graspedbythehusk 27d ago edited 27d ago

All the musical equivalent to listening to paint dry.
Also, the lyrics. “Will your mouth remember the taste of my love” 🤮

8

u/Itchy-Boots 27d ago

said by someone that has achieved nothing, derp.

5

u/TheDonnARK 27d ago edited 27d ago

Music isn't good because the listener is simply incapable of musical achievement.  u/graspedbythehusk's ability/achievement or lack of ability/achievement isn't a factor.

It's simply a quality evaluation.  Dude doesn't enjoy Sheeran's pop-sound, that's all.

EDIT: To "actively bash" him, one would need to do more than say that essentially, one thinks Sheeran's music is boring.  Fan count is also irrelevant because opinions are preference based.  Like me as an example, I haven't ever enjoyed taylor swifts music, and she's now a billionaire with a fan count likely in the hundreds of millions.  I don't care, I still don't enjoy her music.

4

u/ReasonableDig6414 27d ago

It's one thing not to enjoy someone's music. It is another to actively bash them for their music when he has millions of fans.

3

u/sternlip 27d ago

In the immortal words of Immortal Technique -

Going platinum has nothing to do with luck, it just means that a million people are stupid as fuck.

1

u/No-Sign8805 27d ago

Where did he "actively bash" Ed Sheeran?

The only comment I see is

All the musical equivalent to listening to paint dry.

Which means that he finds Ed's music to be as boring as fuck. I agree. That's a matter of opinion. It's not "actively bashing" someone.

2

u/Original_Click2739 27d ago

Likening someones music to "paint drying" is definitely bashing my friend. If you say something in a rude way that can be said in many other not so rude ways, you are being a dick

2

u/The_Ruck_Inspector 27d ago

Said by someone who listens to Ed Sheeran. Praying for you.

in my experience even fucking amazon music pays better than spotify so I reckon he's doing quite fine.

2

u/oldpaddyrick 27d ago

But why? Who tf is regularly listening to Ed Sheeran?

1

u/empires11 27d ago

At a certain point it's not about the money for these types of people.

1

u/0202_tihssitidder 27d ago

Yup. His YouTube vids alone generate close to a billion views. That's just one revenue stream.

1

u/EJoule 27d ago

Quite a few people have blocked him on Spotify, which if I understand correctly completely prevents his songs from playing.

I'd imagine it'll make a small impact on his revenue, but the bigger impact will be tour ticket sales if other artists refuse to play with him.

1

u/MrCard200 27d ago

Love to see a source for this

1

u/Strength-InThe-Loins 27d ago

Given that, the fact that he thought he couldn't afford to make a very very obviously correct political statement sure is telling.

1

u/Good-Celebration-686 27d ago

Millions of *pounds*

1

u/wayondown 27d ago

All the property is around Ipswich so basically worthless.

1

u/No-Clue-9155 27d ago

I blocked him on Spotify. Hopefully he gets £10 less a year from that 😂

1

u/Rayal90 27d ago

Snoop dog à dit dans un interview avoir gagné quarante mille dollars pour 1 milliard de stream sur Spotify. Du coup faut m'expliquer pourquoi cette différence de rémunération

4

u/namereset4badmouth 27d ago

The snoop song in question has credits for a lot of people on it, therefore they all split the song revenue from it.

3

u/NHLHitzAnnouncer 27d ago

Snoop has zero to do with the creative process of "his" songs. That's where the streaming money is

1

u/flyingcartoon 27d ago

He has 65.4 billion spotify streams, his lifetime total streams on Spotify alone is more than 3 times that of snoop dogg in his lifetime, and his most popular albums and songs get released straight to music streaming platforms at the peak of his career. Snoop did his most historic and memorable music 14 years before spotify was invented and 90% of his career output this side of the decade have barely graced billboard top 200. Meanwhile even mid ed sheeran releases spend weeks on the billboard hot list and get played enough for fucking everyone on earth to have memorized the hook

0

u/Certain-Teaching8215 27d ago

Yes, he may very well cry.

Even with all that money, he's certainly going to feel the effects of his choice.

Even with all that money, he's going to feel the loss of respect that he once enjoyed.

15

u/habitualtroller 27d ago

His music will continue to be played in Kroger not matter what happens.

2

u/Wonderful_Emu_6483 27d ago

We could never be so lucky

1

u/obyboby 27d ago

If anything, it will "Ed"

1

u/abbeast 27d ago

Yeah why would his career end because of this? It's such a stupid thing to say.

He will go on another tour next year with other people.

1

u/solexdj09 27d ago

" End " Sheeran

1

u/spooky__scary69 27d ago

Unfortunately for everyone with ears.

-2

u/Proud-Swan3024 27d ago

He will be fine, thankfully! Although I’m not an Ed fan, I don’t believe years of hard work should be taken away in one bad decision (if you view his inaction through that lens). I hate cancel culture in general. It’s very sheepy, mob mentality.

5

u/pangaroo122 27d ago edited 27d ago

Why are you reframing this censorship of free speech as "cancel culture?"

3

u/deathrictus 27d ago

You obviously mean the cancel culture of firing Macklemore, right? Right? Oh, you aren't. Welp.

1

u/Proud-Swan3024 27d ago

Why wouldn’t cancel culture apply to both Mack and Ed, if they’re now also saying to cancel Ed for a lack of position or whatever they decide at this moment.

5

u/Free_For__Me 27d ago

People have twisted “cancel culture” so badly that its meaning has become as muddled as “liberal” or “fascist”. Oppressors do this in order to take power away from terms that give the people an avenue to express their shared grievances so that the oppressor can keep people from joining in solidarity.

Case in point:

Fans dropping you en masse because the people don’t like something you do or say is not getting cancelled.. Thats just the free market of ideas deciding that the people’s demand for you is dropping off.

Someone with power pulling your plug because he doesn’t like what you say, regardless of whether the people like you or not, IS getting cancelled.

Macklemore is the only one getting cancelled here. Ed just F’d around and now he’s entering the “find out” stage. (At least as far as someone as wealthy as he is can face consequences.)

4

u/ZestyTako 27d ago

Ed’s band dropping out because they don’t like how he’s behaving isn’t him being canceled, it’s just a real world outcome of what he did.

Whereas billionaire stadium owners demanded Macklemore be dropped. Ed’s getting abandoned by people “below” him on a social hierarchy/financial scale, Macklemore was canceled by people with far more power than him. They are not the same situation

7

u/zipzipalien 27d ago

Guys let's keep bombing all the babies because apparently cancel culture is bad

0

u/Proud-Swan3024 27d ago

If you think in any way stopping listening to Ed is going to stop Israel from wholesale murder in any way, you’re probably one of those that think changing their backgrounds on social media does something for a cause as well!

Here’s the thing, this whole thing being news and brought to more screens, eyes, and ears has probably done more for the Palestinian plight than anything in a while.

The US tide is really starting to turn against Israel…

1

u/ZestyTako 27d ago

So what about what happened to Macklemore? Is that not cancel culture?

-2

u/zipzipalien 27d ago

Maybe not, but the only people who will respect him are zionists and pedophile billionaires. Good one Ed.
