“Open our doors” does not mean “open borders.” It means having a functional immigration system that actually works, rather than the broken one we have now. Who can deny we need immigration reform?

The El-Sayed’s published immigration policy says absolutely nothing about open borders. In fact, it explicitly states: “I believe in a safe, secure border and immigration enforcement.” He calls for comprehensive immigration reform, continued enforcement of immigration laws, and a more effective, humane system.

You can disagree with his proposals, but claiming he supports open borders when his actual written policy explicitly says otherwise is arguing in bad faith.

Please read it yourself: https://abdulforsenate.com/priority/money-out-of-politics/#h-immigration

Open door is a dog whistle for open borders. I’m the kid of immigrants. There’s nothing wrong with our immigration system. People just want to come. We have the right to exclude. If you dig into what these democrats want, they don’t want to deny anyone. We need discernment in who we allow. What do you think ice is doing? They are enforcing immigration laws that have been on the books for decades that have been ignored. These migrants are getting due process but it’s not enough.

Consider the reverse. Open doors followed by explicit legislative language by a politician, open doors is open borders from a Reddit comment giving vague statements, to a point it’s up to the reader to interpret, with their preconceived notions to back it up.

I will be open. I’m not a lib I’m a leftist who kinda likes his brand of political rhetoric and trying to actually push action. The rhetoric and policies don’t always agree with my own views but it’s refreshing to see someone actually try to push what they believe in when it is meant to help people and within the confines of our constitution and societal structure.

We need more funding and expansion in the judiciary immigration system. We have ramped up detainment (in mostly privately owned detainment centers mind you), less training, regulations and less oversight but have about the same deportation rate.

We have more people lost from records in detainment, we have citizens detained, injured and killed by ICE. We have enough public recordings of malfeasance that public records are in line with previous ones but a DOJ refusing investigations, detainment centers refusing oversight and DOJ blocking evidence to state investigatory agencies.

I understand enforcement is hard, however it’s harder when people are terrified by the agents to the point they feel running is the best option. It’s also harder when people with masks, no uniform nor badge code and pull guns over a traffic stop or raid without a warrant establishing not only the person but also a potential violent encounter. This admin is/is gonna further making effective immigration enforcement so much harder.

He’s bone headed for starting with open doors though.

The republicans attempted legislation in 2024 and Trump called his friends and had it shot down.

The legislation would have added hundreds of millions of dollars for border patrol and the immigration courts. Shot down.

Brit Hume called it the most conservative piece of legalization on immigration in his 30 years reporting the news and Trump has it killed so he could campaign on immigration.

Those in power decided power over country, with Trump leading the way.

The US president controls Homeland security. Not congress. So unless Trump decides to give up his Border Tzar, then should be no change

“Open our doors” does not mean “open borders.”

it 100% means open borders. Its frankly cartoonish to even attempt to argue otherwise.

The El-Sayed’s published immigration policy says absolutely nothing about open borders.

This is cope and kindof a lie. He has always, FOR YEARS, been for open borders and only recently as of this month, switched his policy because its not going well for him. He's doing the same thing with his long established position on Medicare.

There’s no evidence that El-Sayed has ever supported open borders. His 2018 comments were about welcoming refugees and immigrants and opposing certain deportation practices. Neither is the same thing as advocating unrestricted immigration.

His actual published policy explicitly calls for secure borders and continued enforcement of immigration laws. You can disagree with his proposals, but that doesn’t mean he supports open borders. And the article you linked is about Medicare, not immigration. It provides zero evidence for your immigration claim.

When we start opposing people based on what we feel they must believe, rather than what they’ve actually said, words lose all meaning. If we can’t even agree on what someone’s position is, how can we possibly work together toward solutions? That kind of thinking is exactly what keeps this country so bitterly divided, and finding common ground is the only way we’re going to move forward.

There’s no evidence that El-Sayed has ever supported open borders.

Well you say that, because the machine has given you your talking points this morning, which is that "Doors doesnt mean borders", which again, is fucking cartoonish, and magically, on cue, EVERY Redditor started saying this morning.

The issue is not that we don't know what he meant. You ALSO know what he meant. You're just pretending not to. Biden ALSO called it "open doors". I mean why are we honestly even discussing this? Why are we lying? I get that midterms are coming up but jesus, you ALL have wanted open borders since 2016. ALL of you. "Stolen Land" and "Borders are fascist" and all these other platitudes we've been listening to for a decade. You're trying to sell us on the Muslim brotherhood populist stepping out as the most reasonable amongst you?

I swear, its impossible to have an honest discussion with all of you. He supports resident IDs for illegals. He wants to abolish ice. Im sorry to say, but you guys aren't very nuanced in your beliefs. Just like the rest of you, he wants lifelong dependant voters.

I provided El-Sayed's actual published policy proposal. You responded with an opinion piece from a partisan outlet about an entirely different issue, and now you're making sweeping claims about what I and millions of other people supposedly believe.

Both parties have moved toward more extreme positions on immigration since 2016. And Biden’s White House was incompetent when it came to border security. But Biden also explicitly restricted asylum at the southern border in 2024. That's hardly an open-borders policy.

What I’m asking is that we discuss what people actually propose, rather than what we imagine their hidden intentions must be. Tell me honestly, do you think it’s more likely that millions of people are secretly lying about some scheme to create “lifelong dependant voters” (whatever that means) without a shred of evidence? Or that millions of bleeding hearts simply don’t like to see ICE swooping in and arresting people? (There was a time that that was enough to disagree about.)

We desperately need bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform that combines effective border enforcement with a functional, humane legal immigration system. That will be literally impossible without compromise from both sides.

But if every disagreement turns into accusations of conspiracy, dishonesty, and secret agendas, how could we ever get there? I'd rather have an adult conversation about solutions than keep fighting over caricatures of each other's beliefs.

You're just repeating what you've already said. I don't argue that way. It comes down to you running cover for what we all know what "open the doors" means. I don't see you conceding anything on that front so whats the point? This is not a me issue. This is an El-Sayed issue.

Biden’s “open door” policy’s were essentially open borders up to a large threshold. Trump came in and almost immediately fixed it. There’s so many valid criticisms regarding trump but his job at the border was outstanding.

I don’t understand why you’re saying “who can deny we need immigration reform?”

Why? The amount of illegal immigrants coming into the country dropped by roughly 95%. It’s working, why would anyone want to change it

Leftists are actively empowering people to assist an invasion from the inside. I swear, they have to be histories stupidest ingroup.

I think the biggest issue with modern Republicans is their unwillingness to understand how much US citizens DON'T want the jobs that immigrants come and take.

ILLEGAL. Period. Can’t be here. Stop calling them immigrants like they are here legally. Nobody has issue with LEGAL immigration.

2

u/Santaneria 1d ago

"Nobody" ? You really believe that?

Immigrants can come in legally and they are the ones taking the manual labor jobs that are available. There's a system in place for the government to process people. If the federal government doesnt work with countries to process immigrants, then there's going to be problems. The system is being choked by funding being cut thinking US citizens will take jobs but the reality is that US citizens wont work for the bare minimum like many immigrants do. Which brings up another problem, the people HIRING illegals to do the low paying jobs.

We owe nothing to the world. American citizens are not allowed to break the laws without consequences, so neither should the illegal aliens be able to. No benefits of any kind to illegal aliens, no looking the other way, nothing but a brisk deportation.

Only discussion on ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS I care to have is how to remove them.

We can talk about helping legal immigrants all day. Wonderful. All for it.

This is the distinction the left refuses to make. They just want voters for more of their giveaways.

Easy solution, stop all federal funding to Michigan. Watch how fast they cooperate.
