The Weekend at Bernie's references were supposed to be a joke

This is illegal. Why isn’t his wife with him?! As soon as he was wheeled out by those “agents” and not Elaine, I knew the fix was on.

u/BigBullzFan 25d ago

Her loyalty is to China, not to Mitch.

46

u/BitTwiddles 25d ago

She was born in Taiwan and emigrated to the US with her parents when she was 8, so I am not sure there is a strong allegiance to The People's Republic. But there might be a strong tie to her family's shipping business.

u/Electrical-Pack3040 25d ago

Mitch was born in the US and his loyalty is definitely not to americans

11

u/AwarenessOk5135 25d ago

Just certain ones like his boss

11

u/Named_after_color 25d ago

He was definitely not loyal to Trump. Mitch was the boss. If he could still think he'd hate him with every fiber of his being while fronting as his biggest fan. He honestly might've hated Trump more than he hated Obama.

14

u/squadrupedal 25d ago

Mitch doesn’t like humanity in general. It’s a conservative thing.

1

u/motorcyclemase 21d ago

If that's the case why are conservatives against abortion? What's it called, lemme think... aha! Pro life?

2

u/Maximum-Objective-39 19d ago

Right up until the baby is out of their mom's womb, then they're on their own. That's the problem with saying 'pro-life'. Pro-life implies care from cradle to grave. They're more accurately pro-natal.

u/motorcyclemase 18d ago

Fair point actually. Things would be more simple if all humans were good people, yeah? Just do what's right it's not that hard lmao

I consider anyone who goes through the process of naturalization more American than me because I didn't ask to be here, our people got annexed.

When Ms. Chao was US Transportation Secretary she rarely if ever granted interviews to US media but spoke to Chinese media.

u/Ok_Valuable9450 22d ago

Another Republican traitor

5

u/bazaarzar 25d ago

She emigrated from Taiwan to the US.

or

She immigrated to the US from Taiwan.

u/Fast_Independence962 25d ago

So many conflcits of interests with Chao as Secretary of Transportation during trumps 1st administration.

Anecdotal contrarian whataboutism in the sipirit of Reddit engagement: China claims Taiwan as it's own.

u/DangerousQuestions1 25d ago

His loyalty is to Moscow

11

u/TrickyChildhood2917 25d ago

Moscow Mitch

6

u/TrickyChildhood2917 25d ago

He hated that reference.

5

u/Biduleman 25d ago

And I don't get why people stopped calling him that.

7

u/SkywolfNINE 25d ago

Cause he died lol

1

u/Biduleman 25d ago

I'm not talking about the recent weeks, but over the 7 years the nickname was coined.

7

u/Curious-Antelope6171 25d ago

I'm not a fan of here, but when has she shown loyalty to China?

49

u/TempleMade_MeBroke 25d ago

On June 14 he was hospitalized after being found “unconscious” after suffering “cardiac arrest.” On June 17 she was in China speaking with their vice president. A spokesperson for Elaine Chao said Mitch McConnell’s condition “did not warrant an immediate return to the U.S.”

Idk man it all just seems weird to me considering he was likely at death's door the moment that quote was being generated

u/_Not_Too_Serious_ 25d ago

Wha chew talkin bout Willis? He is vital as any 143 yr old shoe leather, and twice as responsive as that same leather. She had nothing to worry about. He has plenty of grunts and blinks left in him. 😉

😂😂😂

u/Fast_Independence962 25d ago

Her family has a billion dollar shipping conglomerate and trump hired her for Sec of Transportation. So many conflicts.

-3

u/Curious-Antelope6171 25d ago

Well, she's been a high level American official, meaning she's been better at high levels. It shouldn't be surprising she would meet with Chinese officials. They probably aren't the warmest couple and she was probably told he was stable. Also, it's a long trip. She probably wanted to finish what she started and then be freed up to give her husband more attention.

3

u/feralb3ast 25d ago

Just because you can imagine something happening doesn't mean that it "probably" happened.

-3

u/Curious-Antelope6171 25d ago

And your point is?

-3

u/ReserveFormal3910 25d ago

She's was born in Taiwan and immigrated when she was eight as you may have already known Taiwan and China does not have the best relationship.

-3

u/ReserveFormal3910 25d ago

0

u/BigBullzFan 25d ago

She used to be Secretary of Transportation. Her Dad is a big-time shipping magnate. Her sister was involved in running that shipping magnate. Do. The. Math.

0

u/Curious-Antelope6171 25d ago

Lol yet she has repeatedly passed high level background checks. And Democrats never investigated her. The suggestion isn't proof.

1

u/Slow-Mountain-5966 22d ago

Trump doesn’t want background checks on his appointees.

1

u/Odd-Neighborhood4214 25d ago

Moscow Mitch but the wife works for China so now connect the dots

-2

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 25d ago

She's from Taiwan and is an American citizen. This is some racist shit.

5

u/yomihasu 25d ago

"No bro, she can't have ties to China because she was born in Taiwan. Ignore the fact that her parents are from mainland China and her father founded a shipping company that had an overwhelming amount of its shipments go to China and also ignore the fact that she had a visit to China as a cabinet member in 2017 cancelled because she tried to get her family included on it. She's never received any money from China and definitely doesn't have any ties, stop being racist"

-3

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 25d ago

Nothing you said proves she has any ties to the CCP whatsoever. Her parents both fled the Chinese Communist Party and moved to Taiwan.

I don't care if people make qualified and evidenced claims that she is working for the CCP. But all you have as proof is that she's Chinese. Dual loyalty is a dog whistle.

"Chinese government and United Front-linked organizations named Elaine Chao, the wife of Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell, to several advisory and honorary positions that overlapped with her U.S. Cabinet service, according to an investigation published Tuesday by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Ms. Chao, who married Mr. McConnell in 1993, served as secretary of labor under President George W. Bush and as secretary of transportation during President Trump’s first term before resigning in January 2021. She served on the board of EV charging company ChargePoint from 2021 until July 2026, and is now a distinguished fellow at the Hudson Institute, a Washington think tank.

The DCNF reported, based on its translations of Chinese government and state media, that Ms. Chao — whose Chinese name is Zhao Xiaolan — was named to at least four such positions since 2008, including three tied to arms of the United Front Work Department, an agency that a Congressional research arm says Beijing uses to advance its foreign-policy goals and gain access to sensitive foreign technology. A companion body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, has likewise been flagged by analysts as a coordinating vehicle for the CCP’s influence operations abroad. Several of these appointments rest chiefly on the DCNF’s own translations of the underlying Chinese-language material and have not been independently verified elsewhere."

I'd link it but the sub doesn't allow linked text so I'm not going to add a link to the article to be safe. That enough for you?

2

u/feralb3ast 25d ago

And then they became shipping magnates there. You think the CCP would let that happen and allow their multitude of contracts and services in China if the family were considered opposition or subversive?

I have in-laws that are Taiwanese and they don’t view China in a negative light. It varies from person to person. That being said I don’t think auditing senators and their family members who hold dual citizenship and stay in contact with foreign governments is racist, I think it’s a way to prevent espionage. I feel if you’re a government official your loyalty should be only to Americans, and we should scrutinize where the officials are getting funded. We’ve let lobbyists ruin our democratic system for too long and it’s time to rein it in.
