There is argument that if she had stepped down under Obama they (republicans) would have just blocked his SCOTUS pick just like they did when Scalia died.
I agree, but she was never this bad. She didn't have people telling her who to vote for, and her own party was the one urging her to leave office. She also stepped down from all of her boards and responsibilities when she started mentally declining. Her situation is not the same as this. Keeping people in the dark, controlling how Mitch votes, and doing all the sketchy things required to avoid a special election when he's clearly a shell with no mind up there at all. He can't even form words.
Yes they did. She was directed how to vote by aides, just the same. I remember it specifically because in my line of work we block someone's account when we see exactly this behavior from people around the elderly.
You miss where she was actively giving her speech about her support for the bill. She didn't vote one way then was told to change, like McConnell did the other day. She already showed multiple times and said what she was going to vote for. She was just told it's time to vote, not time for speeches
Please go back and read the whole conversation between me and this guy before you start having your meltdown đ¤Ś
Agree to disagree with the level of severity with Feistein vs. McConnell. They both hit the minimum requirements of someone who should be removed from office on the basis of their cognitive ability. I think my issue and along with u/idontlikeanyofyou is how both parties are guilty of keeping those in power when it's reaching to the point of elder abuse. Regardless if the democratic party is telling her to step down and she's still refusing at the ripe age of 90, it's shining a light to how both parties will still protect those in power even if their cognitive ability is gone.
You seem to be misunderstanding the meaning of the words youâre using. âThey both hit the minimum requirementsâ â the severity is the same.
Additionally, âRegardless if the Democratic Party is telling her to step down⌠how both parties will still protect those in powerâŚ.â You literally acknowledge the evidence against your conclusion in the same sentence.
No one is saying that Democrats donât have issues and arenât too old. What they are saying is that the double-standard is evident from Republicans because the SEVERITY is different. Enlightened Centrists are calling..
It's so crazy to me how often people on here say stuff like that that doesn't actual make logical sense while trying to process an argument or disagreement.
The issues are hard and complex, but the fact that we can't even all understand the basic logic we need to talk about them is terrifying.
Literally mid-sentence contradictions, itâs baffling to think whatâs even going on in their heads. We are in the midst of a literacy backslide rarely seen before. And coupled with technology eradicating critical thinking skills, I donât see an optimistic future for the next few decades.
Feels intentional, weâre seeing what a post-truth society does to people
We are in the midst of a literacy backslide rarely seen before.
I'm pretty sure that already happened. The closest thing to it is in the far past with areas changing languages to fit the new rulers of where they lived.
Part of the issue around Feinstein is we don't really have a good system to eject someone from congress non-consensually. There were many people asking her to step down, and her voters voted her back in even after she should have been replaced.
Nobody is even asking Mitch to step down from his party and they act like just asking whether or not he was dead or alive was rude and inappropriate when he had disappeared for weeks, and they are literally telling him how to vote.
I think you're recalling when she started giving her speech instead of voting. From what I can find on Google, she was told it's time to vote not give speeches. McConnell voted no, then was told to change to yes. Not exactly the same. Either way, McConnell should not be in office at all at this point and Reps are doing everything they can to prevent that. Dems actively did the opposite and tried to get Dianne to resign. Many times.
Let's also not forget that Lindsay Graham's sister is currently serving in his seat instead of following proper protocol to find a new person to fill that spot. Just further evidence of Reps breaking the law for their own corruption
Crazy how Lindsay Grahamâs sister could take over without it being a national scandal or people saying they should follow protocol. But when there wasnât enough time for a proper primary and campaign to be ran and the (checks notes) Vice President of the U.S. ran for office, she was attacked for being unqualified.
July 27, 2023, in a committee she was told, just say aye. I agree with you, any senator who clearly is struggling, shouldn't be sitting in their seat like this.
Again, she was giving a speech about how she supports the bill. She was clearly going to say yes. And, it's right there, she was giving a speech. She was coherent enough to form sentences and recite a planned speech. McConnell can't even form words right now. Not quite the same. He has no idea what universe he's even in right now.
If you cannot agree that Feinstein needed to go, then you aren't being objective with your criticism. Both parties run ancient establishment politicans. We need term limits for Senators and Representatives. And both parties need to run reasonably aged candidates for President, not men in their 80s.
Can you not read? I literally said both of them should have been taken out, but their situations are much different. Feinstein could still give speeches and form sentences by the time she left office. McConnell can't even form words. I even explained how Democrats were the ones calling for their own coworker to leave office. Republicans are not doing that. They're doing everything they can to keep their puppets in office. Mr. Hollow shell here, and Lindsey Graham's sister illegally taking his seat in office. Not the same.
One side is clearly worse. The Republicans. Everyone knows that. But I cannot take dems seriously when they try to defend their own ancient centrist politicans.
People with Alzheimer's slip in and out of coherence. Feinstein was completely and utterly lost at times.
I'm more left leaning than Feinstein was and think McConnell should've been forced to retire a long time ago. This isn't about partisanship. I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation.
Are you being willfully obtuse? No one is saying she shouldnât have stepped down.
Weâre saying they arenât the same even a little. I have to wonder if youâre being objective, because you seem to want to hold onto the pretzel ass logic that theyâre the same.
This isn't about defending the conservatives. They have nothing worth defending. It's about pointing out the hypocrisy of criticizing one side, while defending your own. I'm left leaning enough to point out the hypocrisy of the centrist establishment dems.
Your instinct to defend the Democrat when it was one degree less severe than a Republican comes across as incredibly partisan, and is an argument that really doesn't have a point.
Dude I'm explaining how the situations are similar but not the same, but desire the same outcome and you're over here crying about it. I even showed how each party reacted to one of their own being like this. Idk what to tell you đ¤ˇ
My point is that the distinction itself is meaningless.
Which 90 year old senator has been more of a derelict of duty? Is a question that serves no purpose and is meaningless to attempt to answer unless you're on reddit trying to look 'right'.
"Attempt to answer" as if we don't have meticulous records of what Senators do in Congress. "Trying to look 'right'" I think you mean just being right. Lmao. But, sure, facts are pointless. All points you don't like are pointless, actually.
They guy you're responding to is doing exactly that. All of his comments are "Feistein was never as bad". The problem isn't which one is worse, it's that both are inexcusable.
This tends to be why there is mistrust on the Right side towards the blatant trust Dems have of those in power within their party. The slogan for me was always Question Authority. But, spin has been invaluable, and the Darkness vs. The Light trope has long held out on the internet. Republicans bad, very bad. Democrats good! Work for the people. Can do no harm.
Shit has worked really well. And, on many levels, the fact that Democrats are actually better at making laws and policies that are for the people makes it an understandable point of view, but to say everyone in the party is altruistic would be a naive mindset.
Question authority. Regardless the era. Always. And I hate saying it, but sometimes I think the show House of Cards on Netflix really showed a lot of how the lawmaking side of things seemingly gets done in D.C. regarding Majority and Minority Leader Whips in the House and Senate.
There is a lot of talk of Hakeem Jeffries being a crony capitalist like all the rest. And I do hear some disparaging remarks from progressives about his voting tendencies. But not a whole heck of a lot.
And after rereading this I can tell my coffee is working.
The problem is, the same as forcing age limits for driving. We canât. But thatâs why we require retesting at certain ages for driving. We should be requiring that for congress people too. Like sorry once you reach a certain age, you need to meet cognitive requirements to continue serving.
Because thereâs Feinstein and McConnell, and then thereâs Bernie Sanders who still seems quick as a whip.
Yeah, they did this exact same thing multiple times. Senators donât care what party you are when it comes to dying in office. They also didnât care Bob Mendez was walking around with gold bars in his pockets.
In some ways she was worse, because the Senate was a 51/49 split (47 Dems with 4 independents caucusing with them) Dem agenda literally had to wait on her in several instances because she was constantly out on medical leave and Dems couldn't afford her absence the way Republicans can afford McConnell's absence right now (53 R vs 47 D).
If Dems had a solid majority the way R's do right now they wouldn't have gotten on her case the same way R's are in no rush to get on McConnell's case.
I keep telling these fucks that I never saw a Democrat go on live television and argue that any state/states (NY/NJ) should not get funding to help clean up after a disaster (Hurricane Sandy) fuck republicans. Born and raised NYer every republican can SMD
I hate the both siders too. Dems have their problems, but destroying the country to protect a pedophile is not one of them.Â
That said, this issue is something that both parties really are guilty of in spades.Â
FeinsteinÂ
RBG
Maxine WatersÂ
Jim Clyburn
Joe Biden
Not saying all older folks are incapable of serving, but it's generally a bad thing to have a government so much older than the people they're representing.Â
Ok, but people called for most of those people to step down. Other congresspeople were urging Feinstein to step down. Dems had to vote for Kamala out of no where because Dems said no Biden isnât fit, which, honestly, compared to fucking Donald, he was definitely more fit. People called for RBG to step down while Obama was in. So⌠no one (in that party) is calling for McConnell to step down.
Because the two are not equal, and nowhere close to being equal, and making it seem so is disingenuous and a large reason of why we're here now.
The current state of america would not be what it is if people voted Democrat. Full stop. So no, both sides are not the same, you should cut it out with that bullshit.
Literally replying with a "but both sides" yet with no actual input or facts.
Here's what I'd like for you to do: find me a single piece of legislation from the last 20 years that was passed by a majority R government that benefits the common man. Just one is all I'm asking for.
I'll find you plenty from Democrats, we will go one for one.
That was wrong too. And most dems would agree. The problem is, if dems always do the right, polite thing and leave a supreme court nomination on the table or vote out old Congressmen and risk their seats, they will always be at a disadvantage against a party with cutthroat tactics, no ethical constraints, and no repercussions for illegal behavior.

I mean Dianne Feinstein had no business being in the Senate for at least her final term.Â
Hanging on too long and not passing the baton is a bipartisan issue.Â
