I’ve been pretending to quit porn since 2020 & am ashamed to still be addicted
During the lockdown, I stumbled upon the book “Your Brain On Porn” and it really clicked something in me to want to quit this bad habit. I discovered many subreddits & YouTube videos regarding this journey & it felt really empowering. I would count the days and be proud of myself for hitting milestones like 90 days and ultimately going 6months without it.
Fast forward 7yrs and many relapses later, I was never fully commit to the process. It’s been a humbling experience realizing just how addicted and powerless I am to this. I’ve regressed so much socially, lost friendships because of constantly flaking on plans & not being present mentally. I drifted through life for almost a decade just feeding this bottomless pit of shame that’s done nothing but robbed me of my youth & exuberance. I am now 28yo with no social circle, a dead-end job barely getting by & have no self-discipline. I used to enjoy writing but I’m even struggling to articulate my thoughts because this thing has co-opted my whole brain.
I don’t know what the point of this post is, it’s just a word vomit full of self-pity & regret. I finally deleted all my social media because it’s my trigger, yet I still don’t have the belief that I can pull this off. Here is to hoping this is my rock bottom and a springboard towards leaving this thing behind me
