There's no joke, it's just a superstition/luck based tradition. Open new pack, flip one. That one's lucky, smoke it on a bad day that needs to get better, or on a good day when you're riding high. Low-key I hate smoking but I love the tradition of the lucky cigarette, it really can help the mental state when things arent going well

Always last. I always flipped three though, first row three in the middle. One for good luck, one for a good fuck, and one for the dead homies. But the lucky was always the middle of the three and was always smoked last.
