Bot Commands!

Hi r/NoPoo! I've been learning more about AutoMod and had an idea that I think will really help the community: Bot Commands!

The basic idea is that you type a simple command and the bot replies to the comment where the command was used with frequently used information. I've created a small collection and used them already, and plan on expanding them to replace the clipboard I currently use to do all of this. I've made a new wiki page that will contain all of the ones available here:

Bot Commands for r/NoPoo helpers

Have fun helping!

seborrheic dermatitis

Anyone overcome this? My son has it pretty badly and he's really embarrassed.

I have only been no poo for a month and it's been good. I do Baking soda with a ACV rinse once or twice a week. I'm wondering if it will be helpful for him to try because NOTHING has worked, not even prescription shampoo.

I would love to know what you all do for this! I'm willing to try anything at this point!

Hey yall, its been a while!

I was decreasing how often I shampooed down to like once or twice a week. then decided "you know what, its time." and this is about day 12-14 in my current streak. Water only, using a pick to detangle and to help get rid of sebum and excess oils. I'm thinking of doing some apple cider rinces to help get rid of some of the wax/oil caused by hard water.

Im open to questions, peace yall!

Troubleshooting (HELP!) In desperate need of help!

I am M22 and have basically done NoPoo the last year (with perhaps two showers with shampoo during this time), and I have just stuck with it in hopes of reaching some glorious no poo-equilibrium. Mostly it has been okay.

I live in an area with hard water. My hair is low porosity.

I shower with only water (often warm) and simultaneously brush my hair with a plastic Tangle Teezer (I have not done any preliminary steps for going no poo, as I'm confused to how and just figured that with time it'll be fine). I also comb it for a few minutes after the shower.

But now, my hair is not nice at all. It is a very stiff even after having combed it for many minutes under water. So when I comb it post-shower, it just stays stiff as raw spaghetti in the direction I comb... Also streaks of hair sticking together a bit.

What am I doing wrong? Should I just abandon my mission?
Please help!

Dry Shampoo Alternative

Need some tips,

After hair wash the 2nd day the roots are already separating due to oil...

i would ideally like to get 5 days to a week out of a wash as my hair is very long & thick, & takes lots of time to dry

The length is still totally clean, i dont want to be over washing it & causing damage

I have tried double shampoo technique, Apple cider vinegar Clarifying products, Scalp Scrub

I don't really want to use dry shampoo, is there something else on the market that I could try?

My hair is very dark so the separation is extremely obvious

Im not too fussed about the cost if something can perform.

Alternative Washing Those who 100% NO POO: how often do you preen?

New here…

The first time I did BS/ACV, my hair came out clean, shiny- AMAZING. Especially since I’d only officially not even used low poo for only like a week (it had gotten pretty chunkygreasy, so I massaged, BBB’d, then did the aforementioned wash).

A week later, it seemed time to do the BS/ACV again, but I didn’t preen at all before getting it wet, and it was just as chunkygreasy as before the wash after it dried this time. 😕

I’m wondering if I’m gonna have to rub my head and brush my roots (I have wavy hair, so don’t brush all the way through) on a regular for the rest of my life?

Please share your commitment level to preening. Thank you in advance. 🙏

FAQ Home hair-dye tips?

Hey hey, I abandoned shampoo and conditioner with New Wash about a month ago, and was curious to hear how doing a dye job at home works. Is a no-poo wash able to get a substantial amount of dye out of someone’s hair? Do you just scrap the shampoo that is provided with the dye kit?

For context I have long, thick, pretty damaged hair, which is why I tried no-poo on the first place. I couldn’t find anything that made my hair feel like anything other than dry straw for years. New Wash took about 2 or 3 weeks to really make a difference (or maybe it took me that long to figure out how to use it properly), but I’m hooked now. I just need to figure out the best way to combine it with things like dye, masks, etc.

Any tips for this newbie are appreciated!

Should I go NoPoo starting tonight?

I've been watching a lot of Selfmaxxer and NoPoo vids and getting into all the natural diets and stuff for a couple months now. I have 2A-2C hair with a bit of like 1C when its shorter. When my hair gets longer (like past my mouth) it starts to curl some, which I kinda like and also don't like.

Do I have the right hair type to go on NoPoo and experiment with just water and some egg yolk shampoos? Im using Native right now and my hair's been getting drier by each wash now and its starting to worry me. My scalps been more itchy and I've noticed my dandruff and a bit of irritated scalp is coming back from when I had it when I was little.

I'm also thinking of growing out my hair into a mane style too.

Does no poo work for people who work out regularly and sweat a lot?

I started my no poo journey about two weeks ago! I’ve been washing my hair with a soap nut and flaxseed mixture followed by an apple cider vinegar rinse once a week, and doing water only rinse the day before.
I’m currently recovering from surgery, so I’ve been staying home and haven’t been very active. I’m still in the transition phase, but it hasn’t been too bad since I’m barely going outside or sweating.

Normally, I’m pretty active. I go to the gym 3–4 times a week, take workout classes, and usually hit the sauna after my workouts so I sweat quite a bit. My scalp also gets oily pretty fast, so I used to wash my hair every two days or every other day, especially during the summer.

I’m wondering if anyone here has had success with no poo while living a pretty active lifestyle? My hair usually feels pretty gross after a sweaty workout, so I’m wondering how realistic it is to maintain this routine once I’m back to my normal activities.
Would love to hear what works for you and how often you wash or rinse your hair!

I’ve also noticed that my hair doesn’t feel as soft as it used to and the ends feel a bit drier since I stopped using leave-in conditioner and hair oil. Has anyone else experienced this? What do you use to keep your hair soft while doing no poo?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) It is safe to use an ACV rinse multiple times a week?

I both live in a hard water area and wash once a week with an Aleppo or other olive oil based, natural, super-fatted soap. After these washed, and during the week, I make an ACV rinse my final rinse. My dilution is about 1-2:256 acv:water, or 1-2tbsp in one gallon of water. I’m using the ACV to counteract both the hard water and the alkaline soap, so I leave it in. My hair is very soft and healthy now, but it’s only been 2 months of these weekly soap washes with 2-3 water-only washes during the week. I am not an oily person; I just like a head-to-toe wash on a regular basis. My question is: Is the ACV as a final rinse, several times a week , at this dilution, safe for my hair long-term? Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Having trouble with no poo

I am looking for some help, I have been no poo for about 6 months now. I do an egg, aloe vera, honey, tea tree oil, and rosemary oil wash once a week. I massage it in and let it sit for about an hour then rinse it out. I only wash my hair with cold water, and I shower daily. I do a rosemary and jojoba oil day once a week, and an aloe vera moisturizing day once a week. For both of these days I let the stuff sit for about an hour then rinse it out. I live and Texas and have extremely hard water. I have noticed lately that I have a small red and flaky area around my temple where my hairline is. I do not know what to do from here. I would really rather not see a dermatologist as they are just going to prescribe me a shampoo. In the next month I am switching to a soft water system that utilizes salt. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you.

Please help

So after a 3 month long awkward phase of no shampoo for me with straight-slightly wavy hair, (oily hair, dandruff, bad smell, hair breakage) I eventually got past, (hair felt silky smooth in every shower despite only using water, no bad smell, healthy, shiny, soft hair after drying, etc), as of 5 days ago, my hair felt incredibly matted and thick in the shower, with no silky feel, and my hair had a lot of knots, feeling dry, and as if I used to much texture powder(thats the best way I can describe it). This has continued into today, and every shower since, was a similar experience if not worse, and after drying, my hair has had a progressively worse smell and feel, and people are pointing out "dandruff". There are areas of dandruff by my hairline that when scratched, go into little dandruff flakes. No reddness or itchiness. I have no idea what to do as using a harsh shampoo would reset all my progress no? Has anyone else experienced this?

UPDATE: My water softener ran out of salt crystals and my water hardness was 220 ppm!! Literal calcification on my skin, nails, and shower appliances. Issue has resolved since and I am back to silky smooth! For those wondering I use no product, remedy, oil, or anything just water in my shower every day. Thank you everyone for your help!

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Question about hard water and hair oils

I've been doing nopoo since the beginning of July. I finally figured out a routine that works for my hair to look good.

However, I still get a lot of sebum built up by the time I get around to doing that routine. Is it normal for hard water to make it basically impossible to cull the production of sebum to the point where my hair isn't stringy and greasy after only a couple of days?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) HELP: 2 Days After Yolk Wash Hair is Bleh Again

Hi all, I started "No poo" + no hair styling products about 1 month ago. Previously I shampooed my hair once a week. Now I do an egg yolk honey wash once a week. For 1 day following the yolk wash my hair is phenomenal, but 1 day or 2 after it looks dingy + oily again. Does this go away with time? Is my scalp still adjusting?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Saw some great before/after egg-wash photos, but didn’t go that well with me 🥲

So I read about some great egg/honey wash experiences on this sub and decided to try it out myself. Didn’t go too well, and I’m curious if I did something wrong. All advice is appreciated.

I went NoPoo about 6 months ago. Have always ( as long as I remember) had big issues with sores, scabs, itching and picking my scalp after shampoo wash. Recently started using shampoo again for a short period of time, but stopped again after a month because of too big scalp issues. (I got my body’s big hint now 😅)

Tried washing with egg today (hot water first, then one egg mixed with a bit of water, also using a hard brush to get it to the scalp, then washing/rinsing with cold water)
After that honey wash (1tbsp to 1 cup hot water)

But nah, doesn’t really feel any different… Did I do something wrong?

Fyi my hair is very thick. First two fotos are before and last two are after;

Shea Moisture anti-dandruff conditioner with apple cider vinegar.

https://www.amazon.com/SheaMoisture-Anti-Dandruff-Healthier-Conditioner-Formulated/dp/B0BJR7Z9ML?tag=ustxtadsp-20

It’s really helped my itchy dry scalp and it makes my hair feel really good but not sure if it strips too many oils. It helps that put some EVOO after to add some moisture but it has menthol and that seems like it might be too harsh?

Heres the ingredients

FAQ No poo is better than low (?)

I have (coincidentally) alternated sulphate-free shampoo and silicone free condish in the last few months before learning about No Poo and the benefits.
As I begin my No Poo journey, knowing I may have sort of unintentionally prepped myself by going semi-low poo, I can’t help but wonder, why not just live Low Poo? Get out of the silicone/sulphate rat race, but lose the waxy weeks of feeling gross?
Please chime in on why No Poo will pay off more than low poo once/week or so.
I have fine, wavy hair and hard water.
Thanks in advance

No-poo since November 2025, my routine is just using shikaki, amla, and reetha once a week on Saturday mornings and washing it with cold water. I dont wet/rinse my hair at all throughout the week. I have hard water but can't do anything about that since it is a college dorm. Id like to install a shower filter but cant. Please read the title and help me determine what is it?
