Same network that hosted the messy debate for the primary - with a host forgetting his questions, candidates getting cut off before their time was up, certain candidates getting limited rebuttals, at least one instance of a candidate not being allowed to respond to an everyone question, and long-winded questions that needed to be reworded 🄓

Edit: streaming here at 7 PM

Edit 2: They glazed Spencer in the first question already, LMAO

Lmao in LA of all places, we can’t get a decent production team to put this on?

Go Nithya!

36

u/wasneveralawyer Whatever the weather, we'll get through it together. 16h ago

Any city attorney debates? Folks ain’t talking about Marissa Roy enough on the subreddit.

10

u/ggsimsarah333 13h ago

She’s great voting for her

30

u/lunar_gaze 15h ago

Obviously rooting for Nithya but she does not usually do well in debates. Especially when Bass goes on the offensive it really seems to throws her off her game

19

u/dash_44 15h ago

In debates Nithya seems to acknowledge the problem but doesn’t often tie it back to the specifics of her solution.

Hoping she does better on that front. I’m interested to hear how she plans to solve the city’s issues.

u/itsmicah64 7h ago

Correct. She didn't do well...

u/VintageSuede 7h ago

I found it to be distracting and somewhat suspicious that Raman kept looking down like she was reading from notes hidden in her lap. Obviously the candidates weren’t able to bring any notes in with them and she wasn’t doing that, but the optics of it looked bad.

Let me guess, held at ā€œPuppy Kickers Social Clubā€ full of totally normal, relatable folks who definitely represent a majority of Los Angeles residents and are not wealthy, out of touch, psychopathic homeowners

u/lilbelleandsebastian 10h ago

are not wealthy, out of touch, psychopathic homeowners

i'm not commenting about the content itself but it's fucking hilarious that homeowner can be used as a slur now lol

VOTE RAMAN

I am but only because Bass has been the worst thing ever. Raman is literally going to keep things status quo, cops won’t respond to 911 calls, people won’t get pulled over for no insurance no tags or blowing red lights. The money will continue to be wasted and then instead of figuring out how to manage it better they’ll just raise the sales tax again and again. Install more flock and speed cameras that ticket you…

Can we agree there isn’t a single damn good person running or tried to run?

Meanwhile over in NYC they’re getting Mamdani dudes beloved, filling potholes covering date nights for hard working couples, discounted groceries, the streets are safer over there, and dudes just got the vibe of someone who wants to help.

Over here it sucks big time.

Edit: republicans downvoting me because they hate Mamdani lol

The downvotes are from people who don’t want a Mamdani they want a younger thinner Karen bass

You republicans can downvote all you want. Get a Mamdani here who actually wants to help.

Edit2: every downvote proves me right. Weird you guys don’t want to hold your politicians to account. Weird you all hate Mamdani that’s racist. Be better. And hey, I was on my lunch break but a lot of you need to find jobs. Stop being so offended.

10

u/MeaninglessGuy 15h ago

Why do you think Raman isn’t going to do anything?

I have every reason to believe she is going to follow through. She won’t succeed at everything, but I believe she is going to move the needle more than Bass, which is why I’m voting for her. So - disagree.

2

u/Aggravating-Ad8087 15h ago

She was a council woman in charge of homelessness. She did nothing

-3

u/Dinovius 15h ago

Follow through with what?

Her own plans sound good but they don’t work and won’t work. She isn’t special she isn’t Mamdani she’s said she wants to remove more abilities from the police

( look I’m not republican I vote blue but I have trans friends and immigrant friends who’ve been raped and had hit and runs on them with all the needed info to catch the people the cops just don’t show up and the criminals know this the idiots who drive without tags and insurance know this ) so it’s dangerous out here.

Raman might be slighter better than Bass but come on do you guys not have memory? At all?

Bass was praised when she got in!

It’s the same cycle! Every time!

Garcetti is elected: WOOOOO YEY!

end of his term: BOOO YOU SUCK

Bass is elected: WOOO YEY!

End of her term: BOOO YOU SUCK

Raman is voted in : WE DID IT GUYS WE DID IT

a year into the term: when are things changing?

End of her term: BOOO YOU SUCK

ID LOVE to be proven wrong. But based on her campaign trail rhetoric and his really bad takes on handling of many of the issues, she gets a D- from me

That’s not failing but that’s still a bad grade.

-2

u/Dinovius 15h ago

I’m a lifelong Democrat who votes blue every cycle because I want actual progress for working people, not vibes or culture war. That’s why Zohran Mamdani is the model that makes sense to me.

In his first stretch he’s filled over 100,000 potholes in 100 days and the Mayor’s Management Report shows 229,000 total with a 27% jump, plus expanding street safety tools and moving on city-run grocery stores so basics cost less (NYT and NYC.gov). It is the left actually governing for people instead of managing decline.

Here the cycle is the problem. Bass got the usual early praise then the usual late disappointment. Raman’s record and platform point to the same loop at best.

In 2020 she ran on ā€œdefund the policeā€ and a 14,000-word plan to turn the LAPD into a ā€œmuch smaller, specialized armed forceā€ that hands off traffic, crashes, and nonviolent mental health calls (LA Times).

This year she voted against Bass’s plan to hire 170 more officers to stop the department from shrinking further, then pivoted once she was running to say we must maintain the current size because it is already too small for timely 911 response (LA Times). That is not a coherent path to better outcomes. I don’t like police ok? I want reform but you do need cops, just not racist ones and Raman flip flopping her own points tells me she has no actual understanding or idea of what to do, just that she’s running and needs… something to say.

Her public safety page and campaign statements center on scaling unarmed crisis response citywide and integrating it into 911 so the ā€œrightā€ responder shows up. FYI I’ve seen this in person, I’ve seen crazy people with knives laugh at these people and say ā€œHAHA YOU AINT THE POPOā€ All while the fragile responders are trying to haggle with someone who clearly knows they have the upper hand. It’s fucking wild.

The existing pilots (CIRCLE/UMCR) have handled thousands of calls with high rates of no police involvement and some patrol hours saved, which is fine for mental health and nonviolent homelessness calls. It does not fix the documented 911 bottlenecks.

In 2024 the city answered only about 57% of emergency calls within the state 15-second standard (city reports and coverage of the dispatcher shortage). Non-emergency holds routinely stretch past several minutes, and people with clear evidence of hit-and-runs or other crimes wait because the system is overloaded.

Raman has also backed measures that further limit certain enforcement tools and delayed expansion of anti-camping rules near schools and facilities. The result for most residents is status quo or slightly rearranged status quo: less routine enforcement on tags, insurance, red lights, and property issues while the budget pressure continues.

Meanwhile the county just raised the sales tax to 10.25% via Measure ER (NBC LA). Speed cameras (125 of them under the state pilot) are coming online with Bass’s support. Raman’s approach keeps the money flowing into the same structures without the clear, measurable delivery Mamdani is showing on basics.

LA has tried the ā€œelect the progressive, wait a year, realize nothing fundamental shifted, vote them outā€ pattern with Garcetti and Bass. Raman’s shifts and focus do not break that pattern. If the goal is a city that actually responds when people call and manages resources so working families are not nickel-and-dimed while quality of life slides, we need someone who treats results the way Mamdani does, not another round of the same promises. I wouldn’t ever ever say we should elect a republican but literally republicans have no control or say in California and you can’t blame Trump for city and state sovereign issues, we have complete control here why then do they hate the poor and needy? Because the poor suffer the middle class aka lower lower middle class suffer and the rich….

Pffft they can pay the speeding fines on the PCH. We can pay the 10.25 sales tax.

Open your eyes guys.

u/tomato_sauce 15h ago

You're getting down voted cause this is all nonsense my dude. We have never had a candidate from the DSA in the history of LA. You're comparing apples and oranges. People are allowed to down vote you if they don't agree with your takes. It's how reddit works!

1

u/tomato_sauce 15h ago

Also if you like Mamdani then you'll like Raman. They're both DSA candidates.

1

u/Dinovius 14h ago

No because he has good policies she doesn’t. Even if she says so. She’s not him by miles. It’s ok tho, you guys keep doing this every mayor race and every time I’ve seen it for years do the shocked pikachu face.

1

u/tomato_sauce 10h ago

brother their essentially running on the exact same platform (the DSA's). I have no idea what you're talking about, sorry.

1

u/Dinovius 9h ago

I get it you can’t comprehend platforms but, no they’re not. Mamdani is great and while she may seem like the same she’s not she’s told of her plans and they suck donkey balls

1

u/tomato_sauce 8h ago

brother... youre sorely mistaken. please read up more

u/Dinovius 14h ago

I was factually right though my friend.

0

u/Dinovius 14h ago

I know how Reddit works I’m just saying, I’m asking for better candidates. She’s flip flopped Mamdani hasn’t. She hasn’t had any plans, Mamdani never strayed once from his plans and now he’s enacting them.

She’s not going to be the needed change , my trans friends aren’t going to get justice by having cops actually do their jobs and they’re not going to handle the homeless or the housing pricing here for rentals.

I’m happy she will win I just know she’s not going to do much. That’s just a fact.

1

u/tomato_sauce 10h ago

"I’m happy she will win I just know she’s not going to do much. That’s just a fact."

so now you know the future -- neat!

1

u/Dinovius 9h ago

I mean her over bass I don’t think I’ve met a single person who likes bass her time seems up

If you like bass I’d have to question your ability to process cognitive thoughts.

-2

u/Aggravating-Ad8087 15h ago

I had voted for pratt just to send a message that people want change

0

u/MeaninglessGuy 14h ago

How’d that work out for ya?

0

u/Aggravating-Ad8087 14h ago

Didn't work cause her campaign bought ballots off homeless people and mailed it in for them.

1

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 6h ago

something was definitely fishy during the primary

I dropped both my wife and my ballot off in the same ballot box... hers got counted but mine got conveniently lost...

if anything, hers should have been the one not counted since I'm the one who had to sign her envelope

0

u/MeaninglessGuy 14h ago

Hah… okay. That’s the reason. Sure.

-1

u/OG_Lakerpool 13h ago

Wow you apparently do not know that different cities have different Charters which defines roles for elected officials.

One month old account. How old are you?

3

u/Dinovius 12h ago

I’m 38, yes one month. Every few years I delete my old account and start anew because eventually someone’s trying to dox me simply because I say my opinions

Listen dude ski calm the fuck down. I was right. It’s not that deep. I made valid points and the emotional currently pooping fragile people come out to the comment as if the damn democrats aren’t fully running this place and are to blame for the issues? Bass sucks but she’s one cog in a bigger machine

I’m allowed to ask a city I love so much to be better

It’s like telling me my uncle is overdosing and he needs help and you’re like ā€œnah let him express himself!ā€

Get outta here with your entitled self centered holier than thou soapbox of a comment and personality

Jesus Christ I want things to get better and you’re upset at that?

3

u/Dinovius 12h ago

See this is why I block my shit

You have a crazy stalker habit of digging through everyone’s posts comments and history

Which is odd given your proclivity for

Well that type of porn I didn’t even think is legal, Dawg.

Gross.

We need a Debate BINGO card! What mud will Bass throw? Will Raman throw the mud back at her? Will we find out Nithya had a margarita on January 6th?

Two losers that are bad for Los Angeles.
Either way, the city will be worse off.

17

u/Own-Weather-9919 16h ago

Hey Spencer! Have you moved out of LA yet?

14

u/GrizzlyP33 16h ago

Tell us more about your great Republican leadership, how's that going for you? Real fiscally responsible and America First policies, eh? šŸ˜‚

2

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 6h ago

how can anyone look at the condition of LA and think "yeah, we need more politicians like this"

2

u/GrizzlyP33 6h ago

I don’t think anyone is doing that. Who here is supporting an incumbent?

2

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 6h ago

Raman was literally in charge of the Housing and Homelessness Committee

if you're happy with the housing and the homelessness crisis in LA, by all means vote for her

0

u/GrizzlyP33 5h ago

I am far happier with her efforts to fix a very big problem than I am with the absolute toxic cult that the Republican Party has become, yes.

Even if I don’t agree with all of her policies and decisions, I do think she is someone with good intentions, and not entirely self serving like the opposition party and opposition candidate.

What about her efforts on the committee did you not like? Which policies of hers are you against? Which Republican policies do you think would be better?

1

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 5h ago

Moderator: Imelda Padilla said Raman's tenure was the most unproductive time she's had on the council... can you name one accomplishment to prove her wrong?

Raman: Absolutely! Here are two things... 1) I audited myself and proved how poor a job I've been doing... and 2).... ????

https://youtu.be/2YPWFTAxUx4?t=223

1

u/GrizzlyP33 5h ago

Lol that was a great answer, are you serious? I absolutely want politicians who are going to push for transparency and efficiency, why wouldn't you?

And they cut her off before she could continue and said they're out of time, that's her fault?

Your comprehension abilities and lack of critical thinking make it very clear your opinion is worthless.

1

u/Beautiful_Finger4566 4h ago

she's the one who consistently partnered with LAHSA... you know, the NGO that defrauded LA of tens of millions of dollars?

that plus the fact that she said this:

I don't think a kid's going to be safer because a tent is 500 feet away from a school. You know, it's like, whatever.

Yeah, fuck that... my daycare literally had to change their closing hours because the homeless were attacking the teachers when they walked home at night.

Raman was the person in charge of fixing our homelessness problem for the last four years. Why the fuck would I want to give her even MORE power when she clearly prioritizes the homeless over the safety of people who actually lived here their whole lives?

One regard who couldn’t handle a city being destroyed due to a fire and another regard who thinks homeless drug addicts near grade schools is not a big deal šŸ˜šŸ˜‚
