Discussion Jolla in Norway - question

Hello,

Does anyone use the new jolla phone in Norway? If so, did you play tax when importing? I want to know that before I place an order.

I am very satisfied! The phone it self is very nice and I really like the OS. You have to be prepared for some compromises though, like Vipps not working.

Oh is it not working at all, or just can't tap with it?

Yeah, you have to pay VAT at the postoffice.
Also know that Vipps and BankID dont work

Oh no, what do you do then, hold a second phone for those?

So with Vipps there’s no other solution than having a second phone, or stop using it. Only problem is that a lot of apps use Vipps for login - And Vipps needs to be on the same phone you’re trying to login to the app on (meaning you can’t get around this by having a second phone). This isn’t Jollas fault, but Vipps who says they only want to support stock Android and iOS (which I find stupid).
For BankID you can use the kodebrikke, or have a second phone. The BankID app itself works on Jolla, but the comparability layer doesn’t allow hardware access - which means no NFC for the BankID, which means you can’t scan your passport to login

Well that's a disappointment... Thank you for clarifying, it definitely makes me double think it.

Yeah, I get that. No worries.

I've concluded that I can't use this as my daily driver, so it's a tinkering project for now. You can get a lot of things working on it if you're dedicated and interested, but it's honestly not mature enough for the general user

That's really disappointing to hear and equality disappointing stand from Vipps to only wanting to support stock versions of the Android and iOS.

They’re really annoying about it too. When I email them they just site security compliance, but that’s not what this is about: Google Play Integrity (the thing Vipps checks for) only looks for Google Play, not anything else. The result is outdated phones running outdated Android gets access, while new and secure phones are deemed a risk. There’s options too, in case they claim otherwise. And as another user here says: MobilePay works without it

How does mobilepay work and vipps not? Or do you mean tap to pay on that? Here mobile sertivicate works.

I haven’t tested MobilePay, but I’ve heard other people say it works without Google Play Integrity. Not sure why, but just goes to show that Vipps not working is entirely voluntary

Can it be used for mobile-pay and banking

My phone hasn't shipped yet, but as the the phone is sold without any taxes (mva) and jolla shop isn't part of voec, there will be calculated vat/mva when phone arrives. Remember almost all consumer goods/food has mva/vat on it when sold to private persons in Norway. I'm expecting it to amount to around 2400 in Vat/mva.

While I can't speak specifically for Norway, I imagine it is the same as the UK:  The shop shows the cost including VAT, but charges you no VAT, so you pay less initially, and then when the phone ia delivered you will have to pay VAT.

i.e. The price you see in the shop should be roughly correct.
