No more window tint posts- thanks!

My friends- I get it: vehicle mods are cool, and technically a window tint is a mod (albeit probably not wise to tint your windshield). The thing is... Who cares about window tint? Let's all agree to stop posting about window tint. I think we've beat this dead horse enough and it's causing issues here- resulting in some bad behavior from both sides.

From now on posts about window tint are getting removed and further- threatening comments will be dealt with by via a permanent ban (globally- not just on posts about window tint). We are a relatively rule free place because everyone generally gets the sub trail etiquette but I keep getting valid reports about some questionable behavior and will start taking action to preserve the quality of our subreddit.

Love you all- have a great holiday season!

2019 Upland, my badging has blue trim so he painted my hooks to match. Upgraded 275/55/20 (highly recommend). I think I might need to add a sticker somewhere that she’s all gas.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Thoughts?

Well, my 2019 Jeep GC finally kicked the bucket @ 210k miles. Tranny went out, only had small issues up to that point.

Looking at a 2022 GC WK Laredo X. Less than 25k miles.
How are they? Anyone have any insight? Thank you.

One of my friends is thinking about getting one he is wondering if there’s anything he should be on the look out for or if it’s gonna be reliable in the long run. The one he’s looking at has 96k miles on it.

New to us. 2022 GC Overland. Mods?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey r/grandcherokee - my wife and I just bought this, and are pretty excited about it. This has just about every package offered on the Overland (air suspension, tech pack II, hitch, premium pack, McIntosh speakers, you name it). Yay.

We also own a 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk which we have adored since new. I have lightly modified that over the years - big tires, some cosmetic upgrades and fixes, and the bilstein 2” suspension lift kit.

That makes me think, as I enter this community, there might be some fun stuff to do with this car! What mods are available out there? I’m likely not to mess too heavily with it, as this will be my wife’s daily driver now, but I’d love to see what’s out there.

All-weather mats already ordered (we live in the Midwest).

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude

I test drove the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo altitude, I really like it a lot but I have some concerns. Looking for feedback to anyone who owns this vehicle .

I felt the hood was kind of high as if I have to look over it and when making a right or left turn I noticed blind spots. Any opinions on this topic or any other opinions would be greatly appreciated. I currently drive a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited a much smaller vehicle.

Long story short. 2002. Low mileage. 242 transfer case. Solid mechanical.

I want to convert it to an overland/camping rig. Weeks in PA.

But, she's got some rot. Rockers are toasted. I'd weld some 2x6 in place of them.

Rear cross support has some surface rust as well. I've gotta take a screwdriver and confirm it isn't through.

Just seeing what others would do. Give it a try it tow it to the yard.

Thanks.

And I'll grab a few more pics.

Is the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 HEMI with the 65RFE transmission reliable?

I’m thinking about buying a 2012 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 HEMI with the 65RFE 6-speed transmission.
I’d love to hear from actual owners:
How many miles does yours have?
Have you had any engine, lifter, camshaft, or transmission problems?
What has been your most expensive repair?
Has it been reliable overall?
Would you buy it again?
I’m planning to keep it for 5–10 years and mainly use it for weekends and road trips.
I’m looking for real experiences, good and bad. Is the 5.7 HEMI WK2 worth owning long-term?

Programming blank Keys with Jscan- 2008 WK Grand Cherokee

Thumbnail

Lost my only key on my “new” 2008 WK Overland for several hours and then I found it…so I figured I need to do something about it.
Bought WK specific keys(SUPALAND), by this I mean the key buttons are the same as OEM.

Anyway, the process to program keys in this method requires JScan, which I believe is free to download on any iPhone(probably android too) but to use the full functions you’ll need to purchase a license for $20ish bucks.

Once you get to this point connect to your Bluetooth OBD read (I use a BlueDriver) and you’ll need to read the PIN for a CURRENT key.
Do this with the ignition in RUN with engine off.

Using WCM PIN reading function
You will get a 4 digit code with a space in the middle, “xx_xx”.

Back out of there and go to
WCM IGNITION KEY PROGRAMMING
And insert your blank key. Then hit proceed and put in your PIN code WITH space.

The EVIC will say KEY PROGRAMMED and you’re done.

Writing this as it was a bit difficult to find this info out there.

2021 GC Limited battery drain

I’m trying to research an issue with a Jeep I’m being gifted by a family member. It’s been treated great, garaged the whole time, maintained, etc. 29k miles.

Problems started last week and are continuing. The two batteries were replaced last week after being found dead - originally the (non-dealership) shop thought the batteries were defective so they were replaced at no cost. Today the GC wouldn’t start and the shop tested and found the main battery at 10V. GC started after some charging but then would not restart after. The shop tech explained it was likely some sort of parasitic drain and that these take a long time to chase down. He advised the dealer may have better knowledge.

Took it to a dealership (it’s out of warranty) and they said they’re not aware of any battery drain issues and are charging $280/hr to check into it. Tech there suggested hey maybe a squirrel chewed through something in the past couple days. This is not the case. Also not the case that it’s never driven, as it’s in regular use.

From the load of googling I’ve done now, the battery drain issue does not seem isolated. What should I be questioning and requesting be specifically looked into? Any insight is appreciated as this plus the leaking valve cover gaskets and new starter in the past week are doing a lot of pocketbook damage.

WK Snapped Transmission Pan Bolt

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Went to change transmission pan and filter on my latest WK - they have 6 hanging 'lip-clips' if I can call them that - you can see from the fots what has happened - I did presoak with a penetrant oil and very gently rock back and forth with a hand ratchet, but just as I thought it was loosening, the entire head came away.

The bottom part of of the hanging lip-clip is independent and tried with locking vise grips to try and gently twist but no movement.

I then managed to remove all the others (messy as ATF was overspilling out into my oil catcher - via me(!) - as I thought i could use the pan itself as a sideways lever to try and twist this off - whilst I did get a little movement and exposed a tiny sliver of some fresh silver looking metal from under its seated position, the pan was clearly nearing its deformation point and if I bent or broke that I would be in real trouble - so I put it all back together and torqued it up, refilled the missing ATF via the dipstick filler and left it for some thinking time.

I need this off, without damaging the casting of the transmission and I gotta get this sheared-off bolt out - somehow. I have spare new lip-clip bolts ready to replace along with the new pan, filter and gasket.

Any clever ideas?

This is my 4th WK and have never had this issue - and she's my best one yet and not ready to F it up, as I plan to trick her out with goodies once I can sort this issue and inspect the trans pan and magnet to make sure there's no horror stories or huge amounts of the forbidden metal sludge sitting in there

Shes a 2009 WK CRD OM642 diesel with 55k genuine miles, with lots of engine oil changes and zero other issues presenting - took me ages to find this one (I have an identical CRD Overland donor vehicle for parts or testing ideas before trying live, just in case)

Anyone clever (unlike me) that can suggest some non or minimally-destructive / low risk ideas ?!

Thanks guys!
