As I'm sure many of you know, the way software companies operate, who want their software to see very widespread use, design it so that a 75 year old granny has no trouble using it or figuring it out. I can't tell you how many times I've read about a company using that testing method.
Linux updates are nothing like that. You have to update your computer, and most of the time that's done via the command line. So for the linux desktop to take over, there probably has to be some universal GUI in place (like calamaries is for installation) so that granny would have a very easy time.
Yes this varies from distro to distro, but from my experience distro hopping, nobody seems to have mastered this. At least not in the arch world, and plenty of people would say Debian stays too far behind to be relied on for modern security. If you're wanting to do large updates infrequently. Which is probably just not a good idea anymore.
To me it looks like the arch process is too many steps.
Open the command line
type yay
enter password and press enter
look at the message talking about updates and hit enter again
type N and press enter
type again N and press enter again
Wait 10 or 20 seconds
type Y and press enter
Possibly wait, and type Y and press enter 2 or 3 more times depending on what all you have installed and what all is updating at the time.
So you're looking at a long drawn out process when people really just want to click "do it" once, and get back to what they're doing. I've been using linux for 5 years now and I still dislike having to deal with the update process, it's a chore when I've got many other things to be doing.

I wanted to download a few games on Steam, but unfortunately one thing immediately caught my attention in a very negative way: the download speeds are terrible.
Most of the time I get around 10โ15 Mbps, at best 40 Mbps, and at worst even 1โ2 Mbps. I tried closing background apps and restarting my network connection, but nothing helped.
Compared to Windows 11, where I get a stable 100 Mbps with no drops at all, this is a huge difference. Iโm using an Ethernet connection, and the problem is not only with Steam, the whole system feels slow. Even browsing the internet, updating packages, and downloading through the terminal is painfully slow.

Hi, guys! I'm finishing(at least I hope) different tasks on Windows 10 and I can return to Linux. I tried different distros(mostly were Debian-based) and everything was fine, expect for video games and Windows apps. Idk why, but everything worked slower than it should've work and some apps just didn't open... I'm the type of person, who divides every thing based on different needs, so, if I needed to work with a server, I wouldn't have any problems with using a distro without GUI.
Here are my needs for this OS: using graphics apps, playing video games(from Steam and... ๐ดโโ ๏ธ, I don't play the anti-cheat games, generally only the offline ones), programming(mostly for creating GUI apps), using the office apps, connecting to {printer, monitors, phones, gamepad}, using virtual machines, using older apps, so, basically everything you can do on a normal PC 24/7.
Because of a lot of different things I'm working with or I'd like to finish, I'd like to have a distro, which mostly is "from the box", so, something like Arch linux isn't great for me, bcz I'll need to read EVERY thing in order to not get a new issue to worry about(yeah, I'm talking about the incident with AUR). After listening to me, one dude told me about EndeavourOS: it's like Windows 10(plenty of things are "from the box", and it doesn't have any problems with, for example, OBS Studio), but it's pretty fast, bcz it's Arch-based. I was told that this distro is super stable among other Arch-based distros and if I'll have bugs, they'll be minimal. Also I heard that FPS is one of the highest in games that higher can be perhaps in CachyOS or SteamOS.
If I choose this distro, I'd like to ask these questions:
how often should I update the whole system? Bcz I like that I can not update, for example, Ubuntu for years and it'll work fine;
should I use AUR anyway? Just I can check the manuals, but I don't wanna waste much time on that(as I said, I can't be everywhere at the same time);
(this question is not specific for EndeaourOS, but I guess I want to use it 24/7, so, anyway) I'd like to learn how to program apps for Linux(flatpak and the Arch extension), but I don't like to update something if I see something doesn't needs to be updated, so, how can I run older Linux apps? Just Ik I can use Bottles to run older Windows apps even faster than on Windows itself, but I have no idea about the Linux variantion if it exists or not;
Unfortunately, in the near future I'll probably have a new laptop with Intel and Nvidia... So, how does the distro behave to the proprietary cards?;
Is Ventoy great for installing this distro?;
Interesting, guys, would you recommend this distro for using the 24/7 things? If I learn how to set up almost everything once and for all, I'd like to popularize this distro instead of Linux Mint or Debian.
Oh, also you can see my computer parameters on the photo and I have printer Canon G2420, PS5 gamepad Dual Sense for PS5/PC/mobile

I downloaded endeavour because I wanted complete customisation over my os and wanted to use my laptops specs to its full potential, endeavour is alot smoother and faster than windows but after downloading it I feel a bit lost on how to begin my customisation of it and more importantly how to learn it. I was going to use wiki as my main source but its down leaving only the forums which seem a bit all over the place with unfamiliar terms like scripting, hyprland, pacman, kernel/console/konsole/shell (i dont understand the difference) etc. i selected kde plasma as my desktop environment.
What I really need is some sort of guidance on how to go about learning my os, I have really high plans of how I want it to be customised. I want it to be mainly console based with a few files on the desktop, I want to be able to open any application or website from the console with custom commands like 'open reddit', I want the console to have some sort of built in ai chatbox (almost like jarvis from avengers) that can perform tasks nothing too heavy. I want to do so many things. So id appreciate help on how to go about this ty

Yes, I'm aware that it's deprecated, but it worked until I updated to the latest version recently.
I hadn't used my main PC in a couple of weeks, so up until roughly two days ago, the last time I updated was in late August.
In any case, I already tried using downgrade, but that couldn't find the last working version of eos-update-notifier since it's from the `endeavouros repo, and as such not available in the Arch Linux Archive.
EDIT: Thinking about it, I might have to grab an old ISO and extract the package from that somehow. Yes, I am willing to go that far.
EDIT2: The last working version of eos-update-notifier, at least on my system, was 26-1`. If that's archived somewhere, I'd love to find it.
EDIT3: It looks like the last version isn't dummied out as far as I can tell, but I can't figure out how to actually get it to do something so I think I'm just going to switch to Apdatifier.
I have my doubts about Apdatifier, but I imagine it beats being nagged by messages telling me "eos-update-notifier was removed at 2026-09-01 and is no more supported" (sic)

I had to appeal a complete reddit ban that I got from posting in this sub, which was an automatic ban from reddit. It "detected unusual activity" when I posted the output of my terminal in an attempt to get help.
So basically if you post terminal output for help, you might trigger reddit's automatic ban policy. Granted it was a fair amount of text, but still it wasn't even 4k characters. Their limit is 10k and they tell you that you've hit the limit. You wouldn't think linux error messages and terminal explanations would cause you to get banned off the site. But it did.
Thankfully my appeal was granted but from reading up on the subject, that's far from guaranteed. Often ban appeals will take weeks, and sometimes you never get your account back. Mine took about 6 days before it was resolved.
I'm aware of reddit's uh... reputation, but it can be extremely useful in certain instances. So even though it's often disrespected I still value my account highly.

Attached is a photo of my laptops specs. My laptop isnt compatible with windows 11 and im getting sick of windows performance, I want an upgrade in performance but I'm not sure if Endeavor is the right pick. Im also worried about it being rolling release as i sometimes go many weeks without even turning on my laptop. Is Endeavor the right pick?

So, up until about a year ago, I was an avid Windows user for over 30 years (yes, I understand I just aged myself). They went to shit with Windows 11, and I decided I wanted to switch to Linux anyway.
I have learned a lot on my own, also thanks to many google searches, because to hell with AI too.
This just happened to me, and I'm not understanding how to see what is going on, because as I said, I'm just not that good with deciphering the language being used.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to Endeavour, but have used KDE Plasma (with Fedora) for years. With this Endeavour install I'm constantly being asked for a Kwallet password, a problem that I used to be able to fix by disabling it in System Settings, but for some reason that setting simply isn't there. Can someone point this rookie towards a fix?

Im looking to try out linux on a X1 Carbon Gen 4 I bought off ebay and im having a hard time deciding which distro to go with. Mint is really recommended but I wanted something that had a little more of a challenge to it, and Arch related so i could eventually switch over. I have alot of coding experience so i wont struggle entirely.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

So my mom gave me his old laptop from work and I've been using it with Endevour since the last 4 months, and today when I was looking about this exact model (L13 Yoga) I found out that this thing has a pen (bc of touch screen ig) I asked my mom if the pen worked, but she told me that she had a problem and the laptop got wet and when that happened the pen stoped working, she was running windows and she was told that, so now that I have Linux I have done some research if I can rescue the pen (bc it look perfectly ok) and I found out that it kinda still alive, but I'm not sure what to do, so any ideas?

I've been using EndeavourOS on my geekom A6 for a while now, and contrary to what people usually think about rolling-release distros, with the right maintenance it's extremely stable. Kernel 7.2.4-arch1-2, KDE Plasma 6.7.5, over 1800 packages installed and zero problems... almost.
It's not "stable" in the Debian/Ubuntu LTS sense (packages frozen for years), but it's stable in the sense that it doesn't break, as long as you know what you're doing and keep everything updated with some care instead of blindly.
And then there's KDE Plasma, which I think is the most complete desktop environment out there: customizable down to the last pixel (themes, widgets, animations, layout), lightweight even on integrated hardware like this Radeon 680M, and with an interface that manages to feel modern without giving up the practicality of a "Windows-like" workflow for people coming from there. The default Breeze theme is already clean and coherent, but with a few tweaks it turns into something completely different.
The "but": with the latest update, the amdgpu firmware broke. On boot I was getting this error:
amdgpu 0000:75:00.0: [drm] *ERROR* dc_dmub_srv_log_diagnostic_data: DMCUB error - collecting diagnostic data
From what I could tell, this issue shows up specifically with monitors running above 60Hz.
I fixed it by installing an older version of the package:
boot system with flag nomodeset
Install this:
sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/linux-firmware-amdgpu/linux-firmware-amdgpu-20260221-1-any.pkg.tar.zst
and locking it from updating (via IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf) until it gets fixed upstream.
Takeaway: rolling release is great, but being ready to downgrade when needed is part of the deal.

Hi all, I'm trying to troubleshoot my built-in webcam on my Dell Latitude 7450 running EndeavourOS, with kernel 7.2.9-arch1-1.
Hardware and driver details:
OVTI02E1, handled by the ov02e10 driver.8086:7d19).i2c-15 and i2c-16, with devices OVTI02E1:00 and HIMX1092:00./dev/video0 through /dev/video47 and /dev/media0, but the camera does not work.Relevant kernel errors:
ov02e10 i2c-OVTI02E1:00: failed to write reg 253 val 0
ov02e10 i2c-OVTI02E1:00: failed to find sensor: -121
ov02e10 i2c-OVTI02E1:00: probe with driver ov02e10 failed with error -121
gpio_usbio.usbio-gpio usbio.usbio-gpio.0: [Firmware Bug]: GPIO 5 is not in FW pins bitmap
What I've investigated:
INT3472:01 and INT3472:0c are bound to int3472-discrete.INTC10D1:00, INTC10D2:00 and INTC10D2:01 exist but have no platform driver bound.deferred probe or missing-GPIO-provider error appears in the kernel log.ov02e10 module loads, but the sensor probe fails./dev/video* nodes, but they do not correspond to a working webcam.According to AI: "There may be a Linux driver-binding or camera power-sequencing issue involving the USBIO GPIO/IยฒC components, preventing the OV02E10 sensor from initialising."
Has anyone got the built-in webcam working on a Dell Latitude 7450 with EndeavourOS/Arch Linux? In particular, is there a known fix for the ov02e10 -121 probe error or the unbound INTC10D1/INTC10D2 devices?
* apparently someone else also has the same issues: https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/issues/457

I have a pure endeavourOS system and have for awhile. Due to college courses, I need to get Windows back on this system. How might one go about setting up dual booting with Windows as a second install? Thank you so much in advance
