General Support How to dualboot Windows starting from endeavour?

I have a pure endeavourOS system and have for awhile. Due to college courses, I need to get Windows back on this system. How might one go about setting up dual booting with Windows as a second install? Thank you so much in advance

As usual, a man page straight to the point. To add up to this, install win 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC. This is the most appealing version to a Linux user. Also disable any sorts of encryption inside windows using a patcher or it will erase the grub eventually

Do you really need to dual boot? Or can you get away with a Windows VM running on Endeavour?

I was dual booting for a long time. It became a headache when Windows would update and corrupt my boot partition. I figured out that I can run Windows in a VM on my Endeavour machine and it does everything I need.

Use a VM if possible. If not, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dual_boot_with_Windows#Linux_before_Windows

You will need to know how to resize existing partitions before you start and how to fix the bootloader after installing Windows.

I’ve dualbooted for a long time just for bf6 and valorant. (Actually i installed windows afterwards)

Also for those games i made my linux secureboot enabled with sbctl just to make rebooting more easy. (No need to toggle secureboot on/off always)

I recommend doing a lot of research before doing actually anything.

It's always easier to go windows then Linux over the top.. you might want to disconnect your Linux drive first before installing Windows on your other drive.. assuming that you are running 2x drives for each os.. otherwise if it's the same drive I would start with windows and then bring eos over the top

I only have one drive unfortunately. Fresh install would be super tedious and generally not suitable for my needs

is there any way to do it though? like in practice or is it particularly tricky

I'm 90% certain that it can be done.. however in my experience your in for a bad time.. make sure you back up all of your docs etc before executing this task

Cgpt To dual-boot Windows alongside EndeavourOS on a single drive without losing data, you need to shrink your existing Linux partition to create unallocated space for Windows, install Windows into that space, and then restore your Linux bootloader (systemd-boot or GRUB).
