Not sure if this is a hot take or not, and I'm honestly kind of scared to say this because I'm a little worried about the backlash I might face, but I did not like Tara Markov; I just didn't enjoy her character.
It's not to say that I hate her, that I think what was done to her was justified, or that she isn't an important character when it comes to Slade's character/story. But I just never managed to like her; she's just not very interesting or likeable to me. She's not very sympathetic either; she usually kinda just got on my nerves. I understand that there's no such thing as a "perfect victim" but it was hard to empathize with her outside of an intellectual level.
I have tried like every way I can think of to try and like her, even tried to relate to her since I'm also a victim of gr00ming (twice actually, first time when I was 9 and the second time when I was 13, so earlier this year), but it just made me more uncomfortable with even thinking about her. She just wasn't ever a character that felt significant to me, and sometimes I feel like she's just used by fans to be like a "gotcha!" to Slade fans. But I'm mostly just indifferent to her now.
I also have mixed opinions on the whole Judas Contract regarding Tara too. Honestly, it just felt like a product of bad writing for its time, but it's been around for so long that it's a core part of Slade's character, so you can't really ignore it.
I guess my point here is that, to me, she's poorly written since she was literally originally made just for shock value, and that's it. You can't really expand much on a character when their original purpose was just to make readers go "OMG!!".
Plus, how Marv Wolfman and Jorge Pérez set her up felt a little.. contradictory? In a confusing way.
