My precious girl, 15 years here on earth wasn’t nearly long enough.
You came to us as a 5 year old rescue and lived in our hearts from day one.
Every bed was your bed, but your recliner was yours alone.
For a big girl you had serious stealth mode, and the child lock on the pantry will remain as a reminder of you, our Hairy Bin Chicken.
Thank you for being the best big sister to Beez and not eating your little brother Pox, even though there were days where he was truly asking for it.
The local kids will miss their “Toothless Puppy”, giving you a Mohawk made you irresistible to the under 5’s.
We’re adding sticks and tennis balls to our street library so that other puppers can enjoy your favourite things.
Our hearts are broken, but we’d do it again in a second.
Run free, baby girl.

Hey everyone, I can’t seem to attach photos so I’ve listed the ingredients at the end.

My dog ate 1 cup and 1/2 a can (200g) of wet food daily for 2.5 years. She was golden retriever x husky. I’m based in Australia. But I’ve learnt that there are a lot of cases in America where dogs get DCM from their diet being grain free which includes a lot of legume and lack taurine.

I note whilst her kibble is grain induced, peas is listed as the 3rd ingredient. The can food says grain free but the ingredients don’t seem to include legumes.

Do you think this diet could cause or lead to DCM? Or how concerning is it, if any?

Please don’t have a go at me I’m already very anxious and being a first time dog owner I didn’t know dog food could enlarge their hearts. I regret not researching enough. I use past tense because she’s no longer with us and I wonder if her diet could’ve done something. She was never diagnosed with DCM. She passed in her sleep at age 5.

TIA.

Kibble ingredient
Beef Meal, Wholegrain Wheat, Field Peas, Wholegrain Sorghum and/or Barley, Wheat Middlings, Soybean Meal, Poultry Meal, Oats Groats, Animal Fat (derived from Poultry and/or Beef), Hydrolysed Poultry Protein, Dried Carrots, Palatant (derived from Poultry), Beet Pulp, Canola Oil, Whole Linseed, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Chicory Root Inulin, Choline Chloride, Vitamins and Minerals, Natural Antioxidants, Yucca Schidigera Extract

Can food ingredients
Meats (including Chicken &/or Beef &/or Sheep &/or Pork &/or Turkey &/or Kangaroo); Gelling Agents; Vegetable Fibre; Minerals & Vitamins; Colouring Agents.

Hi everyone, my girl, Hazel, has bone cancer. I have set the date for the 26th of this month, I am glad I got to plan it. She is just 3 months shy of 11.

She is a different dog at this point, was really reactive, but not anymore. This is what made my decision feel right. I don't want her to suffer and just be a husk of her formal self. Luckily, I have a great friend group to support me. My job is allowing me to work from home the next 2 weeks, normally only allowed 2 days a week. I have the week of the 26th off.

I want to send my girl off in the best possible way! Any tips or ideas would be appreciated. I haven't been in this position before. This is the dog I got at 22, this is MY dog. I just want to make the next 2 weeks as special as possible. I already feel like I got the night before and day off set. But any Ideas are welcome!

This is the most recent "favorite" picture of my bug.

Sky (b. January 12, 2012 – d. October 12, 2024)

A year ago, I shared some pictures of Sky here. Some of you might remember him, some might not, but today officially marks two years without my true companion. Time has passed incredibly fast, but I choose to remember him with gratitude for the beautiful life we shared. His story was magically connected to the number 12: born on a 12th, lived for 12 years, passed away on an October 12th, and took his last breath right around 12 PM. A truly perfect number for a perfect friend. I know my good boy is now running free in the stars.

Need advice. Got a good pair of clippers but it just doesn't seem like the way to do the nail clipping thing. What suggestions do you all have on nail clipping? Has anyone used that "silent" Heusom grinder? I really need something that will stand up to some strong nails. And hopefully last.

• Advice (General) • How much is them not liking dogs a dealbreaker?

I’ve been dating this guy for a while and I really like him. However, there’s one thing about him that really put me off - he hates dogs. In his words, he “hates animals” in general. Which is weird to me because it’s one thing to be indifferent to animals but to hate them?

He grew up around dogs all his life. I’ve met his family and they all love their current dogs. By no means are they excessively noisy or gross. I could understand if he had some sort of past trauma with dogs but he has nothing of the sort. I’ve mentioned that well-trained, potty trained dogs exist, and if you care for them, they mostly take care of themselves. They don’t really compare to a newborn baby. He thinks they’re a “nightmare” which I think is totally off the mark.

This is disappointing because I’ve grown up with dogs all my life and recently had my own pass. I feel like it would be a major incompatibility for me to NOT have a dog sometimes in the future. It would cause a good amount of resentment for him, so I’m thinking of just breaking up.

How would you handle this?

• Advice (Health) • What vaccines do you get for your dog?

My dog, the black one and her bestie play in water all the time so I give her obviously the required rabies and dapp. I also get her the yearly leptospirosis and bordetella. But I just found out that her bestie has never gotten bordetella or lepto. And I spoke to multiple friends who have had 2 or more dogs at a time for last 20 years and they’ve never given them the lepto or bordetella vaccines and they’ve never been sick. I don’t know how to interpret this, to me it’s better to protect your dog with a vaccine than not. But I wanted to see what everyone else is doing.
