General Discussion No one wants to purchase my work :(

So as the title reads, I've been trying to sell my crochet work for a long time but i havent sold a single plushie. Here are some pictures of a few of the plushies I've tried to sell for reference.

I've uploaded posts to local facebook groups, marketplace and "tradera". I've even purchased boosts for my posts but to no avail. I made sure to take as good pictures as possible.

I wanted to keep my pricing fair both to me and to the customer, but now i'm thinking the reason why im not selling is because of the price. It confuses me though because I've watched a lot of crochet market vlogs and such, where they sell similar plushies to even higher prices sucessfully.

Can you please help figure out why these won't sell at all? are the prices too high or quality too low?

These are the prices for the products pictured, converted from swedish currency to dollars.

Bunnies in overalls: 46 dollars

Turtles: 28.85 dollars

mushroom buddies: 16.78 dollars

love bugs: 16.78 dollars

dinos: 16.78 dollars

keychains: 8 dollars

General Discussion Accused of stealing another creators crochet pattern, what do I do?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice because I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I recently started designing and selling my own crochet patterns after spending a long time crocheting and buying patterns from other designers. A few days ago I released one of my own patterns, and I’ve now been accused in comments and messages of copying another creator’s design.

The thing is, I genuinely created this pattern myself. I didn’t copy their pattern or use it as a template. I know the creator people are referring to, and I really admire their work (I’ve even purchased a couple of their patterns before), but I have never bought the specific pattern they’re accusing me of copying.

Since the accusations started, people have been leaving nasty comments telling me I need the other creator’s permission to publish my pattern and saying that I’ve stolen their work. It’s becoming quite upsetting.

I’ve already reached out to the creator directly because I wanted to be respectful and transparent. I offered to send them my pattern to look through, but they have a very large following, so I’m not sure if they’ll even see my message.

I’m not here to start drama or attack anyone. I just genuinely want to know what the right thing to do is.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? How would you handle accusations like these? Is there anything else I should be doing while I wait to see if the creator responds?

I’m trying to approach this respectfully because I care about the crochet community, but it’s difficult when people are assuming I copied something that I know I designed independently.

Edit: The other creator answered me telling that they’ve had many messages with raised concerns for me copying her pattern. That kinda sucks tbh. She also raised concerns about notes and listing details which is valid, I looked through different patterns I’ve bought and Etsy listings to see that I included the important info. So mine is definitely a mashup of the stuff I looked through, but isn’t everyone’s? At least in my personal opinion the listing isn’t that important. And I’m happy to switch those up because they have nothing to do with the pattern itself tbh.

Second edit: The other creator blocked me, lol. Feels kinda sad since I’ve been a huge fan for such a long time and also a bit immature. But oh well, now she can’t claim I copy her bcs I can’t see shit🙌

General Discussion Lord of the rings blanket, to sell or not to sell? And how to go about it

Hi! Okay so I'll try and keep this quick! Someone ordered a custom blanket from me(my first crochet commission!) Its of a fancy door/arch with the words "speak friend and enter" on it from lord of the rings(forgive me I don't know the exa.

I only charged him for the yarn which came out a little over $200.(It's fairly large) Its turning out super good, so I was thinking of either making another one to sell after it's completed or maybe just selling the pattern for it. I'm wary about trying to sell the full blanket because $200 is a lot! Id probably price the pattern at $5? I'm not sure. But I'm also worried for a few other reasons. Copyright issues concern me, but also would anyone else really be interested in that? I'm happy to hear your opinions!

Thank you in advance for any and all responses! ❤️

General Discussion Idk where to sell my crochet stuff

I'm looking to sell some of my crochet items (not like the materials, the projects themselves) don't want to do commisions, and I have no idea where to sell them. I'm hesitant to start an Etsy shop because it has a $30 start up fee which I cannot afford to not make back and I'm not sure if anyone would buy from me as crocheted items are fairly common on Etsy

General Discussion What is your crafty commerce?

This sub has a LOT of posts about crochet. So I've been wondering- what do you all do? Is this a majority crochet community or do any of you do any other types of crafty commerce? And how much are you making a year?

I'll start- I have a newish business, I am a yarn dyer and I work with botanical dyes. Last year I broke even after my initial business startup investments, but I had about $15,000 in sales.

Lately I’m sort of shoved into the situation where I need to turn my hobby into money. Is this something anyone would pay for? And If so, how much?

Thanks in advance for any replies. I have this yarn in loads of colours so I could spit them out if they were indeed saleable

General Discussion is this something people would want?

I’ve been playing around with making my own patterns and putting them up on Etsy. I just wanted to get some insight from some other crochet artists on if these are something people would want to make? I know I love them but I’m not sure if I have artist blindness lol!!

I essentially have one pattern for the bikini top and can switch out the design on the top. I have a bunch already but if you guys have ideas I’d love to hear those too!

General Discussion How to tell someone the thing they want isn't real?

I made my first customer and this is the image they sent me,I searched all over the web using reverse image search and I can't find a thing.

Should I ask her to find a new pattern or if she wants to select patterns from stuff I've chosen?

General Discussion Crochet Business

Hi guys! I’m a newly single mom of a 10 mo old and I’m wondering what your thoughts are on crochet selling? Do we think this is an already saturated market that isn’t good to be starting right now or do we think it’s still possible to build?
TIA.

General Discussion How do I manage my crochet business as a full time student?

Hey! I moved for my design masters recently and we have these "stalls" (they just set up a table) in our department foyer every other day where people sell their stickers/posters/pipe cleaner creations/crochet etc. So I thought of doing so as well and I've been making crochet products for the last month.

I wanted to know how people manage their small business like I barely get time after college and most of it is spent in assignments so I stay up on weekdays to crochet and make products; how do you all manage making products while being a full time student/employee/parent etc? Are there any tools you all use to track? I've tried notion but it doesn't work that well for me! please help :)

General Discussion Can I casually sell crochet items for some extra money?

Can I sell small crochet items like charms, keychains etc, without actually starting a proper crochet business or brand?

I’m just thinking of doing it casually whenever I need a little extra money, make a few things, sell them and then stop when I don’t feel like doing it. Is that realistic? If anyone does something similar, where do you usually find buyers?

General Discussion Has anyone successfully transitioned from vendor markets to primarily online sales?

I've been running my handmade jewelry business for several years, and a large portion of my revenue comes from in-person vendor markets and festivals.

While vending has been successful for me, I'm getting to the point where I want to scale back on events and focus more on growing my online sales.

I currently sell on Etsy and have my own website, but my online sales aren't nearly as consistent as my in-person sales. I also work full-time, so spending entire weekends vending isn't something I want to continue doing long-term.

I'd love to hear from small business owners who have successfully made this transition, especially those selling handmade products, jewelry, accessories, or other physical goods.

A few questions:

  1. What made the biggest difference in growing your online sales?

  2. Which marketing channel actually converts into purchases for you? Instagram, Pinterest, email marketing, Etsy SEO, paid ads, etc.?

  3. Did you build your online customer base from your existing vendor customers, or did you attract an entirely new audience?

4.Did you build an email list at events? How (sign-up sheet, QR code, discount)?

  1. How long did it take before your online sales became consistent enough to reduce vending?

  2. If you could start over, what would you focus on first, and what would you stop wasting time on?

7.Which platforms did you use: Etsy, Shopify, both, etc?

I'm not necessarily looking to become a huge brand. I would just love to build a sustainable online business that doesn't require me to physically show up somewhere every weekend to generate revenue.

I'd really appreciate hearing what actually worked for you, including what didn't!

General Discussion How do yarn and crochet businesses actually track materials as they grow?

I know how inventory works for a few other types of small makers, but yarn and crochet are a blind spot for me.

Do you track yarn usage by weight, length, or just by the packages you buy? If the same yarn goes into several different products, do you keep track of and know in advance how much each one uses? I'm also wondering how you handle leftovers that are still usable but may not be enough to make another full item.

With other small product businesses, the important question shifts from “what's in stock?” to "What can I make with what I have?" Does that idea translate well to crochet and knitting, or is there something about yarn-based businesses that makes inventory work differently?

General Discussion Selling crochet Items at Anime Convention?

I recently reorganized my Stash of yarn and had the idea to make small crochet/amigurumi Figures, Keychains and other Stuffies and sell them at one of my local Anime Conventions (I live in Austria btw.)

Would that be a good idea?

What do I need to be aware of if I want to do this?

I've never sold any of my handmande stuff before, only ever gifted them for birthdays or christmas, so I'm really not sure if I should even do this. But on the other hand I really wanna sell them, as everyone I gifted them to were so happy to get them.

I would be grateful for any advice/suggestion you have.

General Discussion Any suggestions for my first in-person beginner crochet class curriculum?

Hi everyone! I’m putting together my first-ever in-person beginner crochet class and would love some feedback from experienced crocheters and instructors.

My goal is to teach absolute beginners enough foundational skills to walk away with a completed project without feeling completely overwhelmed.

Here is my current setup:

**Duration:** 2 hours

**Ratio:** 2 instructors for 10–15 students

**Yarn :** Pre-cut recycled t-shirt yarn

**Hook**: 10mm hook

**Project:** Foundation Chain Keychain / Lanyard/ Bracelet

**Techniques Taught:** How to hold the yarn & hook, slip knot, chain (ch), foundation chain, single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st).

**Handout Provided:** A custom booklet including stitch definitions, drawn stitch diagrams, step-by-step pattern diagrams, and a QR code to a Discord community for help after class.

**My questions for you:**

  1. Are **t-shirt yarn + a 10mm hook** a good starting point for a first-timer?

  2. Are **foundation chain** keychains/lanyards/bracelets realistic for absolute beginners to finish in 2 hours?

  3. Should I demonstrate how they can make their own **t-shirt yarn** at home?

  4. What’s one piece of advice that made crochet "click" for you when you were first starting?

General Discussion Is anyone buying crochet anymore?

Hey everyone I'm writing this post to discuss if people that have a crochet business are having any luck with it. I posted my listing on fb marketplace and people started ordering without me having to boost my posts last year. But now I feel like people arent buying crochet anymore, i posted on etsy, fb, ebay, and even tiktok but I received no attraction at all, wanted to know if anyone is facing a similar situation. Is this a recession thing or idk anymore 🤷‍♀️ Looking to hear your thoughts.

General Discussion Ammonites pendents

I make pendents and necklaces made with pebbles i find on the street, work them with a hanging shaft rotary tool to give them shape and polish them. Then i make a hole and place a previously foraged ammonite inside it. It takes me apprx 2/3 hours to make a full necklaces (not considering the Time it takes to find the stone and the ammonite in the first place).

Theyre pretty basic jewelry in the end but the fact that i can tell a little story about the places i found the stones and fossils makes it interesting kinda

General Discussion First market help

Hello all! I signed up for a craft fair in November
I usually make blankets and cardigans but I’m leaning into the plushies because they tend to sell better. I plan on making maybe a couple wearables and pet beds. I’m 22 and never done anything like this so all knowledge and advice is really appreciated. Anything and everything you can help me do to be prepared? I’m kind of scared but I really want to do it. I don’t plan on bulk making tons of plushies but maybe a few of each to see what sells.
How do I price my items?

General Discussion Would a crochet pattern checker be useful?

Hi everyone! I recently became interested in crochet after seeing people make cool little Pokémon plushies and wanting to try making one myself.
I noticed that patterns can sometimes have incorrect stitch counts, missing steps, or confusing instructions. Would a tool that checks a written pattern for possible mistakes actually be useful?
I am completely new to crochet, so please be honest. How often do these problems happen, and how do you normally catch them? I would rather find out this is unnecessary before spending time building it.

General Discussion Craft consignment shop question

Just for perspective…I sell my knit and crochet items through consignment stores. Each store charges different rates and commission percentages. One shop is open Tuesday-Sunday 11-6. Another is open 7 days per week, hours vary, but most days are 11-7. A third is open Wednesday-Sunday, hours are 11-6. One of these shops decided to close for 2 weeks, with 1 day notice on their social media. No email or text notice to the vendors. It’s not the first time they have closed with very little notice. No mention of a rental fee refund to their vendors. Is this routine?

General Discussion Help a fellow creative out!

Hi everyone! I'm a crochet artist who has a small business while managing my masters in UX Design. I recently started my business and have been facing a lot of difficulties to manage it solely alongside my studies and that made me realise i might not be the only one facing such problem.

Many of us have full time roles as students, employees or parents while managing our business, you know be it orders, inventory, sales, materials, revenue, etc. Handling all these roles especially while creating products is a hassle. This made me realise that this is something that I can try and solve using my skills as an UX Designer!

I want to survey some of you about your process and how you manage your business, the difficulties you face. If you guys are willing to help me out, let me know and I'll dm you the survey form! Thank you 🫶

General Discussion What do you wish shop owners understood about how long your work actually takes?

I’ve seen a gap between how a finished piece reads on a shelf & what went into it, and it comes up constantly in pricing threads without ever getting said directly to the people on the other side. What is something you would want a buyer to know before they ask about a discount, a rush, or a bigger order?? Is it the material cost, the hours, the fact that you cannot just make more of something on demand?
