General Information Welcome to the Cat Distribution System

Welcome to the Cat Distribution System where we share the stories and legends of your CDS kitties extraordinary journeys to find their Happy ever afters!

We all enjoy a good story especially those with the happiest of endings. Here you can tell us all about the start of your kitties adventures, maybe ask for help on catching or re-homing a stray/feral cat or just sit back and relax reading about some of the funniest interventions by Ceiling cat sending his kitties out to find their forever humans and some of the best 'i'm not crying you're crying ' tales.

We are a large community of cat lovers and have members from all over the world that come together daily to celebrate the lives of kitties in all shapes and forms.

So you found a kitty?

The Big decision - do you want to take in this kitty and keep it? Owning and caring for a cat is a large responsibility as not only is a living breathing creature going to be dependent on you for general feeding, housing and companionship for the rest of it's life, but the average life span of a domestic cat is 13 - 20 years. You will be responsible for it's health and wellbeing and will need professional vet visits and regular checkups. Unless you decide to insure kitty veterinary trips and treatment can be both unexpected and expensive.

If you decide that you are unable to take Kitty in as a permanent pet please do not abandon it if it is in need of help, if the weather is bad or in all good conscience letting Kitty go without any help will be detrimental to it's health.

If you follow Steps One and Two and no owner is found please contact your local rescues/ shelters and ensure that they have a humane non kill policy before handing kitty in please!

General help and advice can be found here should you wish to save Kitty but aren't able to keep him:

Cat Cuddles re-homing advice

Seeking a new home for your cat by r/CatRescue

First Step:

First things first ..the safety of you and any other pets you may own is a priority, it's best if you can contain kitty in an area that is pet free if possible and keep it there at least until it has had a vet check up giving it a clean bill of health. If your new kitty is not up to date with it's vaccinations separating kitty from other household pets will prevent any possible illnesses, infections or anything else that may be spread to other pets such as fleas from spreading to all.

Second Step:

Your second priority is a must .. ask yourself in all honesty does this kitty look well groomed and well fed, is it very receptive to attention or already act like a house kitty. If it is wearing a collar then please think again . If any of these tick the list the chances are that this special visitor has got lost whilst exploring or could be just a neighbours' kitty out on a kitty adventure.

Please ask your neighbours does the cat belong to them or do they know who it belongs to, also put a notice up in your local shop, the vets or post office saying that a cat has been found. Putting Posters in the area with a photograph of kitty saying a cat has been found with it's description can also find an owner. You can of course use social media such as your local Facebook group to post that you have found a certain colour cat and if it's male or female and give the vicinity Kitty was found. Use a photograph of kitty that omits any unique distinguishing features that the real owner would be able to identify and wait to be messaged ( if at all) by a possible owner who can then be asked to supply some of their own photographs of their missing cat or give a description to you that is more accurate than the generic one you have given. This is for the safety of both you and the cat as there are some unscrupulous people in this World who could take advantage of the situation and take the kitty for their own dark reasons.

Found kitties are legally considered the property of their owner, you must attempt to locate and find kittys' legal owner before claiming they are now yours. If you have done all this then after a certain holding period deemed by your local authority you can claim kitty rightfully.

There are lost/found pet websites you can utilise such asĀ PawboostĀ orĀ PetcoloveĀ if in the US orĀ Pets ReunitedĀ if in the UK.

If Kitty is a frequent visitor and you are not sure if she belongs to anyone please consider using a paper collar to find out if she is going home at the end of her adventures and does in fact already have an owner. You can find out how to make a simple one hereĀ paper collar.

Third Step:

Next is to book a well-being check up at your local Vets. Kitty needs protection from all types of nasty parasites such as fleas, tick and worms. Whilst there the Vet will usually check to see if Kitty has a chip* (usually for free once you explain the cat is a stray or feral you wish to keep). *Most large pet stores can supply a chip scan service for free too. If kitty has an owner hopefully the chip is updated and has a current phone number and an address you or the vet can contact to let them know that their little adventurer has been found. Do not give up here as sometimes the original owners may have given up on finding kitty and moved on, in this case they can give over the ownership to you and a new chip or existing one can be updated with you now as the new owner.

Alternative options in Fostering:

Maybe you feel that you are unable to take on the responsibility of owning a cat, but would like to see it safe. If so please try to reach out to a local rescue or humane non-kill shelter and see if they are able to help you rescue the cat and take it in. This will mean that they will become responsible for all vaccinations and forthcoming vet fees, There is also an option to foster the Kitty where the Rescue if agreeable will pay for the vet fees, food etc and you get to raise kitty in a home environment and get her used to living in a house ready to be adopted when the time comes. Most shelters have long term associations with their own vet so cut down their costs that way.

TNR Programmes and Feral Cats:

Some community areas such as large Cities and known drop off spots for abandoned cats run a Trap-neuter-return for local strays and feral cats. Cats under this programme may have a tipped ear or an ear or abdomen tattoo. The tip in the ear can be a V shape or a clean snip of the ear tip so it can be detected from a distance that this kitty has been neutered and vaccinated. If kitty has either then they are part of your districts' neutering and replacing back to their outdoor homes' scheme. Usually they are already vaccinated but not always. It is best if you contact the shelter or association that covers your area to say that you wish to adopt the kitty that you have fallen in love with and who has settled into your home if it has got to that stage. However, please note that Feral cats take a longer time to adapt to inside living and can take months, even years to become a house kitty and some will totally refuse to give up their outdoor life and sadly you must respect that.

If you have fallen in love with an obvious Feral kitty that refuses to come into your home then you can always make it a little home of it's own in your garden or shed. Ā r/Feral_CatsĀ has fabulous advice on how to build a cost effective outdoor home for your furry friend. You can also find advice on making a shelter hereĀ Building a shelter

Next we will identify what kind of CDS Kitty you have as they all come in different colours , sizes and all with different needs.

Newborns and Mother:

If you have taken in a 'Trojan cat' as they are lovingly called then you are in for the experience of a lifetime. There is so much advice available for a soon to be Mom and her kittens that at best we recommend that you visit theĀ the Kitten Lady, Hannah ShawĀ for help and advice. Hannah is an amazing lover of cats and has helped thousands of people over the years with cat and kitten help and now has several excellent videos demonstrating all kinds of advice on helping with cat care including Pregnant Mom and kitten care -Ā Birthing Mom and kitten care.

Kitten:

If the kitty is not a newborn then after a quick vet check to confirm kitties age this little one will need you to become their parent, kittens are teeny tiny pooping, eating and meowing machines wrapped up in fur, purrs and love with the lifetime rewards of caring for them far outweighing the time taken in nurturing them. This is the toddler stage and they will be learning how to use the kitty litter tray, how to eat and how to play along with taking lots of naps. Kittens learn faster than human toddlers and usually take to their litter trays pretty quickly.

Here you can find an up to date list of supplies you may need to keep them fed, cosy and happyĀ essential supplies for kittyĀ again referring to the Kitten Lady.

Stray/Feral:

What is the difference between a stray cat and a feral cat? WellĀ https://www.alleycat.org/resources/feral-and-stray-cats-an-important-difference/Ā sums it up rather well on their website saying ''Pet or indoor cats are socialized to people and stray cats have been socialized to people at one point in their lives.

Feral cats are not socialized to people. Whilst they are socialized to their feline family members and bonded to each other, they do not have that same relationship with people.

Check out this link for further advice as lonely kittens need help socialising and can often pine socialisation saves lives

For advice on helping to catch a stray or feral kitty we recommend you visitĀ https://www.alleycat.org/community-cat-care/steps-for-a-successful-trapping-day/Ā where advice includes how to use only humane box traps before taking kitty to a qualified Veterinarian or humane Shelter facility. For extra interactive advice from experienced people please visitĀ r/Feral_CatsĀ where someone is usually available to pull on their own experience with trapping, neutering and caring for kitty.

Of course some kitties just walk straight into your house or give birth in your garden shed and this is where we come in, all sat here ready and waiting for you and your new Cat Distribution System story.

Senior Cat:

Taking in a senior cat needs a special kind of person as this veteran kitty may have been abandoned due to it's age and lack of medical care. Cats can live up to 20 years so the best thing for this kitty is to establish it's age with a vet and work out a feeding and health plan for him. He may not need much medical care and only wants a home to live out his years as comfortable, loved and protected as possible. Usually these kitties just want to be out of the cold and fed regularly. Looking after a senior kitty is both rewarding and gives you an instant invitation to Heaven.

Hurt Kitty / Behavioural issues:

We are not a subreddit that can offer proper medical advice should your cat need urgent help, we would recommend that you post on the following subs for help and adviceĀ r/AskVet,Ā or r/CATHELPĀ if it is out of normal veterinary hours. We urgently recommend that if the kitty is very distressed and in need of immediate attention then please take it to a vet!! Quick response in this situation can save kittys' life.

Adoption:

If you are still awaiting the arrival of your CDS kitty there are ways and means of getting your own. There are hundreds of local Rescues and shelters out there full to the brim of kitties of all shapes and sizes just waiting for their forever human to come and take them home.

Before you adopt consider the cost of owning a cat for the next 20 years and the responsibilities that come with it. A cat is for life and not a status symbol, a play toy for the kids or a low cost non sentient being that has little needs. Cats are natural companions and crave company so if you work away from home and for very long hours please consider how long kitty will be left alone with no company. If adopting from a shelter you will usually be asked these questions so please be honest with yourself and with them before committing.

Are you kitten me!! Found in a wheel well of a truck outside our house

As the title says we found our little girl in a wheel well of a truck in the city lot across from our house. We were packing to go to the beach when I heard her little cries. The city lot is protected by a fence and security gate. We got in our car only to see the gate was open (which it NEVER is) and snatched her up. Everything worked in the divine timing of the CDS gods. When we got her home she was riddled with fleas. I always think about where her mother went. We never witnessed additional activity.

It’s been over a year now, but the CDS gave us a ditzy little cloud to wreak havoc on our other two cats. A storm that never subsides, but lucky for us we love dancing in the rain🄹

Smol Delivery While canvassing out in the neighborhood

Post image

I was out knocking on doors around my neighborhood this weekend. Walked up to a house where a bunch of kids were congregating by a parked car. Asked for the grownup; their adult person came out and we talked about voting and such.
As I am getting ready to leave they go:
ā€œDo you want a kitten? We found it under the car about a week ago but I am worried my dogs will harm it. Shelters are not responding and it has been a week.ā€
And well… after a call to the spouse to make sure it would be okay, I took him home.
This is Earl Grey AKA Bumpy in honor of being found in the car ā€œbumperā€(the kids were calling him that). Vet visit āœ…; he is healthy but has fleas… we are treating so I appreciate any tips. All needed tests were fine. No microchip, so finders keepers. šŸ™ŒšŸ½
He is sweet and warmed up fast once we fed him. Now in a cozy, cat loving home šŸ

TNK - Trapped, Neutered, and Kept Witnessed a case of CDS in work

It was around 8 PM. My friends and I were leaving Lidl when we heard some meowing.

They ran off into the darkness and disappeared for 25 minutes (the keys to the unlocked car ran off into the darkness too, so I stayed behind to guard it). Honestly, I was starting to get worried when they emerged into the light - wet and happy - carrying a surprisingly peaceful bundle.

The story of how this "gyros" came to be involves tree-climbing, trespassing on private property, and a wet ditch that someone fell into.

For now, she is staying in a temporary enclosure for quarantine before her first vet visit.

Meet Sirena (the name might change later).

P.S. They already have one cat, so Robin will soon have a little sister.

Awarded a Cat CDS Gave Us A Good One: Say Hello to Rosie

We adopted two kitten sisters (Annie and Pearl) from a rescue in 2024 and thought we were good on cats, but then a tiny all-black wisp of a stray claimed our house around this time last year. She was nowhere near feral, very sweet and insistent upon sticking closeby. She was almost always flanked by a big, weird gray cat (we started calling him Gray Boy). Well, I began putting food out for her and she started laying on the mat in front of my door, waiting every day when I got home from work and school pickups-- rubbing up against us, wanting pets. Then, she'd post up all afternoon/evening at our storm door and peer longingly inside, while Annie and Pearl sat on the other side looking out at her. Every night, when it was time to close the big door, we'd get a little catch in our hearts. The next morning, at first light, there would be the little sweetheart waiting for us to open it. My daughters and I quickly got attached to her, decided we'd call her Rose of Sharon (named after the character from The Grapes of Wrath), or "Rosie" for short. You see where this is going.

So... I ended up purchasing a heated outdoor cat house when the weather got colder. I was pretty sure at this time that we were going to try and get her to come inside and get her to the vet and all that, but wanted to keep her safe in the meantime. The heated cat house was WONDERFUL. It got her through a hard winter. Springtime arrived and we were set on adopting her and brining her inside. Tried NUMEROUS times to get her in a cat carrier, and she bucked every single time. And big dumb Gray Boy would always be lurking around making her nervous. Alright, so in May of this year she disappeared for a couple of days and then boom, shows up with 5 kittens. She brings all the kittens to the cat house. There I was, full time job, two kids, two indoor cats, and a whole cat encampment situation outside my house. My neighbor helped me snatch up the kittens and she fostered them for a rescue and placed them all successfully with good homes, leaving just Rosie, still living in the cat house and bushes outside my house. STILL impossible to get in a carrier.

July of this year a friend of mine who owns a metaphysical supply store and has several cats lent me a trap and told me that chicken usually does the trick. I had the trap sitting outside for several weeks, open, not set-- so that she could get used to it and move in and out. First day of August, I saw a hawk circling above, and felt a feeling, and I knew it was go time. I ran across the street and bought a chicken tender. Success! She went right in. We got her to the vet, got her fixed, vaccinated, and ready to move inside. Two months later, here we are. She's still pretty much hanging out in the decompression bedroom, but assimilating quite nicely to house life. She's borderline obese, eats $35 food purchased from a fancy pet store, enjoys cake decorating videos, and is a total love bug. Meet Rosie.

From feral to family From an orphaned, dirty street cat to a healthy, proud mama. Best thing I’ve ever done.

One day, this poor kitty showed up outside my home out in the country, clearly asking for help. She was incredibly skittish and standoffish at first, but I spent days slowly earning her trust until I finally won her over.

Once she let me get close, I got her all cleaned up, fed, and into much better shape. She needed a name fitting for her new life, so I chose Freyja, after the Norse goddess of love and beauty. It fit her perfectly!

A few months went by, and Miss Freyja started putting on some serious weight. I honestly just thought she was finally getting full and happy after starving on the streets. Nope! She completely surprised me by giving birth to a litter of beautiful kittens!

The black-and-white boy, Gizmo, found his forever home right here with me. The other baby went to a wonderful friend of mine, so they are all safe and loved.

Photo Guide:

First pic: Freyja the exact day she found me.

Second pic: Her glowing up and getting healthy.

Third pic: The surprise bundle of joy!

Fourth pic: Gizmo all grown up into the most wonderful, loving cat.

Freyja still prefers running around outside to this day (you can't fully take the country out of the cat!), but she never has to worry about food again, and she has a warm, safe place to sleep through the cold months. I am so incredibly thankful this precious soul sought out my help.

Guys what am I supposed to do now😭

These are the stray kittens(not really kittens anymore) who were born near my apartment building during the summer. I’ve been feeding them every night and hanging out with them for about an hour every night for like a month and a half now. Anytime they hear me call for them they come running over to say hi. They fell asleep on me last night while I was petting them and they stayed like this for close to 2 hours purring until they fell asleep(after they had already hung out inside for another 2 hours before). And this is only the second time they came inside the apartment. My apartment doesn’t allow pets and I’m too poor to afford 3 cats so idk what I’m supposed to do now😭 I’ve always wanted to be chosen by the cds and I freaking adore these little guys

Edit: I think I will be moving next year somewhere I could take them and be able to afford them by then. So if you have any suggestions for what I should maybe consider in the meantime I’d appreciate that cause I’d love to keep them if I could, but if not I want to get them somewhere that will take good care of them.

Tiny abandoned Tyche, one year on.

One year ago someone knocked on our door and handed over this tiny newborn kitten, head no bigger than a thumbnail, broken tail and wet umbilicus still attached. We had no kitten milk and had to feed her human formula before managing to track some down via a local person. We thought we were going to love her for a day or so and watch her die but Tyche had a strong will to live. One year on and she is a warm, vibrant and affectionate member of our house and is well loved by all human and feline members. She even knows how to play fetch.

Update Kittens found on the riverbank Update #2

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I went back to the river this morning at 11. It’s when I usually walk my dog but I didn’t bring her. I brought the kennel, the food and a clean blanket inside.

Momma was not scared of the kennel and again was meowing at me before I even got the food out of the first can. She knows the sound and smell *instantly* which I find very funny. She went inside and ate no issue.

The kittens are a different story. Firstly, only two kittens appeared. I fear the worst for kitten #3. But there is hope. Secondly, they did not follow momma into the kennel like I thought and instead just… sat there. They did eventually go in 1 by 1, I made sure they got to eat their fill (which was less than half what they ate yesterday) , but it just never happened.

The slightly annoying thing but also the thing that gives me hope for kitten #3 is there was a lid to a can of tuna sitting on the bench directly opposite the cat hole. I believe someone fed them before I got there and potentially took the kitten while he was eating. They like to eat straight from the cans, and he seemed healthy and lively yesterday. It could have been a predator as well but, I choose to believe he was rescued.

All in all, I didn’t want to spook momma or the other kitten by snatching them 1 at a time since they are already so skittish, so today was a bust. Tomorrow I’m gonna get there at 6 or 7 am because I know one of the ladies who feeds them gets there at 10 and I want to lure em in when their hungriest.

Also I met 2 more guys who have fed the cats and they said the mom has been out there for at least 1 year, but the kittens were only spotted a month ago by another woman.

I’m a veterinarian. I went to work for a clinic, and this skinny thing with limitless energy and paw steps that sound like thunder had been in a cage for two weeks, having been left on the clinic doorstep between two laundry baskets taped together. We aptly named her ā€œLintā€.

We spayed, dewormed, vaccinated and viral tested her, and now she’s with me. She’s a maniac. She has no boundaries. She looks at you like McMurphy looks at Chief Bromden in the last two minutes of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. We love her, although my other cat needs Prozac to deal with her.

Meet Willie Nelson (orange) and Nene Leakes (tiny menace). Willie Nelson has been living a peaceful, privileged life as the sole beneficiary of my estate. Then, in late August, the Cat Distribution System decided he needed a little sister. Enter Nene Leakes. Approximately four weeks old when she arrived, weighing roughly one baked potato, and possessing the confidence of a woman who has never paid a bill in her life. Since her arrival, Nene has claimed his toys, invaded his personal space, and appointed him her emotional support orange. Willie, to his credit, has accepted his new role with the exhausted dignity of a single father who didn’t know he had children.

Update Kittens found on riverbank Update #1

Thumbnail

1.8k Upvotes

I went back to the river family today with kitten food and all the kittens came to eat. Mama ate the most but each one got their time in the bowl.

They came much closer, I was even able to pick one up (it jumped away and mama yowled at me every time I got close again) but I was able to pet them before they ran off.

The food was almost gone when a male cat came up, and they all shrank back into the bushes to see what he was gonna do. He took the last few bites of the food. Probably the dad.

Plan is still to bring a carrier and more food when my paycheck comes in 2 days so I can take em to the vet. I don’t think it will be difficult to get them in the carrier but I will have to watch closely to make sure they’re all in there. The smallest black one is the most skittish and only came out after all the other cats had started eating.

My little sister found this cutie underneath a car, crying 🄺called me and asked if I could take her in… I already have two gorgeous girls & wasn’t sure how’d they react to a kitty 🫣

She FaceTime me and I couldn’t say no to this face! My girls were a bit skeptical about Roci but the past month has been so blissful with our newest baby 🄹

She’s such a character! Chases Luna Rose (grey kitty) and has learned that her size doesn’t matter & she’ll try to take her 🤣has also learned to climb a few high spots… her sissy Ollie Bear (orange kitty) snitches on her all the time šŸ˜‡šŸ˜Œespecially when she’s about to get in trouble…

Our family feels so complete too 🄲

My baby boy, Scout, is a bundle of joy. šŸˆā€ā¬›šŸ–¤ He’s the sweetest little guy, and I’m so happy to be his mom. I found him abandoned all alone in a tree, without a microchip or collar. Despite his rough start, he’s full of spunk and determination. He’s already running the house, but he’s also full of love. I love him so much! He suckles on a blanket when he makes biscuits, I wonder if he was separated or left behind too soon? I don’t know. But he’s very loved and taken care of, now.
I’ve owned cats before, but never a kitten, it’s quite the adventure! šŸˆā€ā¬›šŸ–¤šŸ–¤šŸ–¤šŸ–¤

Last year as we was coming home from a visit to a college my daughter was looking at we found the little tabby in a ditch along a rural road. We found her… well she ended up being a he. The town near by was called Paris so that’s what we named her, and then when we found out it was a boy he became kitty P. Now that was almost a year ago. Today we went to visit my daughter at that college for family day. She is half way through her first semester, on the way back along a busy highway along a curb was this little gray furball. I whipped the car around and saved the little bugger, there was a gas station called bell stores with a red dog character for their mascot near by. So once it gets alil bigger he will be Red or she will be Bell. Looks to only be maybe 4-5 weeks old. You can see how big kitty P is now in the last pic. This little addition is my 14th rescue I have atm. I am a softie for a cat in need. Bonafide cat daddy!

It’s been over a year and a half since our last stray kitten trapping (we do TNR in our neighborhood) and about 4 months since our last stray adult trapping (yes… we kept both because they turned out to be super sweet and I couldn’t put them back outside). Yesterday the crows outside my window were going absolutely insane so I thought something was messing with my chickens. Went out to investigate and on the other side of the fence was a little orange guy tucked in a bush. He seemed to want the attention, tried to brush up on one of the outside cats that follows me everywhere, but ran from me. 10 minutes later, with a sardine and a drop trap, he was trapped. He’s in his bathroom quarantine, but good grief does this guy have a purr box on him! It’s just constant, loud, and accompanied by the most enthusiastic biscuit making and head booping. I think we’re screwed… so meet Junior Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe… we didn’t have one in this color yet šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I work at an industrial plant that makes frozen meals and canned soups, so i often come home smelling like enchilada sauce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, or a mix of one or more of these things. Depending on the smell I bring home with me, Walter reacts in a variety of ways. In the second pic he's loving my boots. It was a lasagna sauce day. If I dare come home smelling of onions, he will still try to lay next to me as soon as I sit down, but the smell pisses him off and he'll nip at me (not hard) and swat me until I get up and shower.

Moral of the story: Walter, the Panzerkampfwagen VI of cats, does not like onions.

Awarded a Cat I was chosen! Meet Cleo, the tiny but most ferocious sweet girl ever!

This Cleo, short for Cleopatra, we call her both.

I waited years for this day! I have 2 cats already, 1 from CDS years ago. This sweet girl appeared out of nowhere, I caught her sleeping under and inside my car when nights got cold.

During the day she would stay in the trees and big bush on my property. She was easy to build trust with but refused to let me touch her. I put out food and water, slowly moving it to my yard, then to near the garage, then cracked the garage and finally put her food in there. At meals, after a while she’d come running when she heard that can pop open and after I put it down, this tiny thing would run slightly towards me and hiss her tiny hiss for me to get away from her food. That’s when I knew she was chose me and was going to be mine. That was HER food, not mine. 🄰

One day, I got her in the garage and away enough from the door and closed it to trap her in the garage. Allowed her to stay in a few days to calm and consult with my vet who said, they would get me in same day once I could catch Cleo, which at this point I still was not allowed too close or to her. She’d run off.

Few days later, I went out to check and silly girl got herself caught in a hole with no exit. She made it extremely difficult but I was able to pull her out, no harm to either of us. She struggled but no biting or clawing which was surprising and I got her in the cat carrier.

It’s like night/day after I caught her. I let her calm in the carrier by covering it with a blanket. Then opened top to see if she would allow contact. It was not only allowed, she booped me hard with her head, repeatedly. Started meowing and demanding pets!!!! I was in shock, I hadn’t been allowed close enough for weeks. At the vet, she got out, loved everyone. Major cuddle bug and pet demander. All over me and the vet, especially his beard šŸ˜‚

She got all her stuff, clean bill of health, and don’t worry about her poor little tail! Our vet thinks it was from a fight, not infected but it’s dead. So it will either fall off on its own or he will remove it when she goes to spayed. Estimated 9 months old and 4 pounds. Shes a cute little girl!

Now she is home and in her own room as we do very slow introductions because one of my cats takes time and it’s a bit stressful for her to meet any new animal. She is fine! We just have to go very slow.

Cleo has transformed over night. She is the sweetest, cuddliest, feisty and high speed girl now! She loves my kids and to play and to look out her window! I love her sooooooo much!

Been really down lately (seasonal blues plus life circumstances) and someone came along to brighten my day and maybe my life!

Was letting my pups out in the yard when i heard the tiniest cries from my neighbors house. I thought it was an injured bird at first so I went over to check it out. I realized it was coming from the egress window, which was about 5-6 feet down. The caps that are supposed to be on top of those exits are never in place, so I regularly walk by and glance to make sure no wildlife has ended up down there (again, it's my neighbor's house, or I'd just fix it myself).

I walked up and wouldn't you know, the Cat Distribution System had made a delivery. We live on the outskirts of town in a subdivision and feral cats are a regular sight, so this wasn't a total shock and he's so very tiny that I knew he had to be feral as well.

Jumped down and grabbed him, held him for a long time outside as he cried. I was trying to give the mom a chance to come back if she was around but no dice. I do think I know his momma cat because I see a cat running around our cluster of houses frequently and she's not anyone's pet.

In any case, I brought him in and isolated him, as we have two dogs and two cats already. He was VERY hostile at first, hissing and posturing. But when I held him he immediately calmed down. Kept him in my home office for the afternoon and evening and we gradually progressed from hissing and bluff-biting to cuddling on my arm and eventually falling asleep on me multiple times.

Put him in a large box with all the essentials as I had dinner and then took him back out and did some more cuddling. Got my first purrs, too, which was a nice little bonus. He's eaten half a can of kitten food and has been going potty so he's starting to feel more like himself I think.

Going to keep acclimating him to humans over the long weekend and then next week my wife (an ultrasound and veterinary technician) will take him in to her vet and get him checked out.

Lots of unknowns at this point, obviously. Does he have anything wrong, will he fully acclimate to people, how will he react to my other cats and especially my dogs, etc. We do have a pretty large home, and no kids, so we have plenty of room but obviously the comfort of our pets and everyone's ability to get along comes first.

All that said, I intend on doing everything in my power to make this new arrival ours for good.

Last year I lost both my mom and dad within 4 months of each other to two different but equally brutal diseases. Two months later I lost my grandma and more recently my uncle. Needless to say, it's been an interesting year as I try to keep moving on.

The 1-year anniversary of my dad's passing just happened a month ago and my mom's is coming up soon. I miss them terribly and have been very down in the dumps.

My mom LOVED cats and always made sure we had a kitty in the house when I was growing up. She knew how much I adored cats as well. Given the timing, and me being desperate for something pleasant to focus on right now, I can't help but think maybe she helped deliver this little guy to me. At least I hope so.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading ā¤ļø

Meet Ulysses.

I was just relaxing in our room, reading, and was suprised by this CDS appointment.

My husband walked into our bedroom with her, handed her to me and said, "She just showed up! It was dark out so I thought she was a chicken at first. But she walked up to me and followed me home."

Apparently, while he was grabbing something from the truck, she just walked up to my husband and was like, "Ok. You can take me home now, you're mine."

After checking around as throughly as possible, he couldn't find out where she might have come from so he brought her inside. She's pretty little but is happily eating kitten food and drinking water. I'm attempting to teach her the litter box.

We're putting up flyers, and posting and checking posts locally. Until then...meet Chicken, aka The Fluffster. Super sweet and cuddly, and totally gorgeous. Vet visit will be in a few days.

A black cornfield cat for Halloween šŸŽƒ

Just over two weeks ago my kiddos found a kitten in a field behind our house. He was muddy, skinny, dehydrated, half-blind, and battling a URI. We took him to the emergency vet that night (picture #4, ignore the dirty cat carrier we dug it deep out of storage in a rush to get him to the vet). He received an exam, fluids, and had an unexpected botfly larvae removed from his neck (picture #5)🤢🤢. We were sent "home" that night with meds and a sad little cat (pictures 6&7 his first full day after being found).

Given his neglected condition we opted not to bother looking very hard for a previous owner beyond checking for a microchip, and decided to keep him. We named him Grimm Wilhelm due to his timely (and physical) appearance, thinking we were clever, but now being a part of the black cat sub for a couple weeks I can see we're in good, plentiful company šŸ˜‚

He spent the first few days being very sleepy, snuggly (RE desperate and clingy), and reverted back to incessant amounts of kitten suckling on the soft inner skin of my arm. But after the meds had an opportunity to work their magic, and he had some time to adjust to the unexpected terrors of indoor life, he has turned into the most wonderful little menace. He's full of piss and vinegar, but he's also the sweetest thing in the world and he loves everyone in the house across all species.

We're planning on moving out of state in a couple months and it actually makes me emotional thinking we might have missed him on our way out, given our paths just as easily could not have intersected, so feeling extra emotional about having him🄲

Big thank you to my husband for indulging my need to save all the broken thingsšŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

In the right place at the right time.
This morning on the way to work(6am), I came across a little body in the middle of the road. He was so smol and so cold. I’m from Canada and it dropped down to 3 Celsius last night. I thought he was dead but when I picked him up off the road he let out some faint cries so I picked him up and brought him home. My wife and I bundled him up and used a heating pad to warm him up and hoped for the best. Around noon he started perking up and he’s looking pretty awake now and talking up a storm. He’s so tiny, but we’ll get some weight on him.

Edit. He’s eating so well, hungry as hell. He definitely stumbled upon the right human, we have 6 cats, 3 dogs, 5 horses, and 7 ducks on our farm. Currently napping on my wife.
Thank you all for the kind words. I’ll keep up with his progress.

Edit 2.
Baby boy is doing well. He has been getting fed every 2 hours and being kept warm. Wife is really looking after him like a real momma, we didn’t have any plans soon to add to our family but, life found us. He’s playing, eating and taking in his surroundings. Anyone who spends time with him falls in love with him. I’m really blown away with the process he’s made over the last 2 days, compared to the state I found him in on Friday morning. Vet visit scheduled for Wednesday.

Rainy Day Kitties Flood left kitten without a family, so I gave him a new one

Last year, my home town flooded. For whatever reason, our area had a large population of stray cats. We kept finding the strays dead for days, even weeks, after the flood. It was horrible.

One day, I had Covid and was waiting on a doctors appointment, just driving around, when I saw this tiny black thing in the middle of the road. Didn’t know what it was, but saw it move and swerved out of instinct. Pulled an illegal u-turn and came back and found the tiniest little kitten in the world just trembling in the middle of the road. Too weak to even fight me. He wasn’t moving at all, and he was bleeding from his nose.

I was certain he had been run over and so I took him to an emergency vet and they handed me a bunch of paperwork and took him back. They asked me if I was willing to be financially responsible for him, and, I assumed he was about to be put down, so I said ā€œof course!ā€ They asked me his name… and I said the name of the street… Sydney… because I was short on unisex name ideas.

They let me back after I agreed to pay for everything, and the vet did an examination. He told me ā€œSydneyā€ was a boy, around 4 weeks old, only 4/10s of a pound. He was severely malnourished and incredibly small for his age, but they guessed four weeks because of his teeth.

He told me had a sinus infection and was bleeding from the nose from a minor scrape, that he had no broken bones and was most certainly not dying. It was at this point I had to suck it up and tell my father (I was staying with him for a bit back then) that I had another cat… and that I needed him to look after him while I went to my doctors visit. After throwing a fit, he accepted and went home with Sydney. The first picture I have of him is from when they got home.

Had to bottle feed the little guy for a week or two, and started calling him ā€œSydā€ for short. Us both being sick at the same time definitely sucked, but it also meant I got the time off work needed in order to feed him as often as he needed (every 2-3 hours, per the vet).

These days, Syd is lively and adores his sister, Baby, who can be seen on the right of the last picture. They look IDENTICAL. The only difference is Baby is missing half an ear, and their eyes are slightly different shades of green.

1 down, 3 to go. Then i need to catch mom

On the 27th, I found these babies under my lawn mower. I made darn sure it was only the 4 before I mowed my lawn, but they had to be 4 weeks. They did have full bellies when I found them, so I knew mom was around. I put the babies in a cover box in my back porch with a live trap and food. But she stole them and got away.

Today, I was outside and heard someone mew. So I found this one and took her inside. She's eating soft food, so I'm not guilty about not giving her back to the mom.

I want to catch the mon, but I don't know where the other babies are yet. I couldn't find them and looked all day.

Unfortunately, a hurricane is coming this evening/weekend, so I hope they get through alright. I put a carrier out on the porch for her to relocate to. I hope she brings the others.

Edit 10-12-26:

I have seen their mom, "Ghost", once. I think their dad has been taking advantage of the shelter I set up on my back porch. I do not know where Trouble's siblings are being kept still. My husband even went out to look.

However, my other cats don't like Trouble. My eldest is 12 and grumpy and can't move well. The middle child is being a brat. The youngest is unsure, but could probably be convinced. My husband does not want a 4th cat. Yet, the idea of giving her to animal control makes me actually cry. She's so smart and sweet, she comes when called and is chatty and playful. The idea of her in a kennel cage just breaks my heart and I'm not sure what to do. I WFH, so she won't be left alone all day for most of the week, but she does take up a lot of time and I'm absolutely terrified of not doing something right and harming her by accident. She's only pooped once a day so far (though she's figured out the litterbox like a champ! I just had to put it where she wanted it). She pees at least 4 times a day by herself.

All the shelters around me say they require her to go to Animal Ctrl first. Even my usual vet refused to look at her and test her for things. Will she be OK at Animal Control? Or do I have a 4th cat?
