Discussion 🎃 SPOOKY DOOKIE MONTH: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace S1E1 Review
🎃 SPOOKY DOOKIE MONTH continues!
This week on The S1E1 Podcast, we're taking a trip across the pond for Episode 287 and diving into one of Britain's strangest sitcoms: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. 🩸📺
Our whole gimmick is simple: watch S1E1 and decide GREEN LIGHT or CANCEL.
So we're curious what the British sitcom crowd thinks:
Did Darkplace nail it from the very first episode, or does the madness take a little getting used to? 👻
What was your verdict after S1E1?

Discussion Who’s seen this underrated gem?
Him&Her is one of the most underrated British sitcoms ever imo.
Brilliant writing, great performances, and just one location - this always impressses me with any TV show or film and makes each episode of Him&Her feel like a short play.
It’s super relatable, a great depiction of working class Brits, and every episode is hilarious. All the performances are pitch perfect but Ricky Champ’s Paul and Kerry Howard’s Laura are standouts.
Yet I don’t hear people talking about it enough! Why is that? Why did it never reach a wider audience?

Discussion Charity sketch cross overs
What crossovers would you love to see for charity sketches, like Comic Relief, Stand Up To Cancer, Children In Need?
I’d love the Inbetweeners on Taskmaster, especially with the layer of Greg/Mr Gilbert - could just get them to say that he looked just like their teacher.
I’d also like Strictly Come Dancing with Gavin and Stacey cast or Ghosts. Ghosts would be fun to play with given they can walk through people/not touch much, except Julian.

Discussion Did anyone ever watch Hyperdrive?
Saw an episode on tv last night and spent the first ten seconds thinking it was a lost Red Dwarf episode. I didn't even know the show existed.
Did it get a good reception when it first aired? And were people upset it only ran for two seasons?

Does this type of humor work for a series do you think?
Background:
I've actually been animating these characters for about 18 years now, as a kind of homage to Dorset where I lived in my teens and my tribute to Giles whose incredibly detailed cartoons inspired me. I really only started creating these animations for friends and animated holiday celebration cards like Christmas or Thanksgiving etc.. But I constantly have the characters and the village of Lower Piddle in my head and so I decided to share and see if there's a larger audience out there who would enjoy seeing them and thus here we are.

Discussion Comedy writers and actors??
Ok imma bite the bullet.
I’m 23 from Kent England, and all my life I’ve wanted to be a comedy writer and actress. I’ve grown up on British comedy and it’s a part of me, and all I want is to find someone to write and perform with. We could write a sitcom, sketches, I don’t mind, but I just wish I could find people of a similar age to share my dream with.
Let me know if you’re interested and we could be the next Morecambe and wise, Rik mayall and Ade edmondson, two ronnies, etc😂
