Honestly it just wasn't the first "dog chewed my sex toy" thing I've heard so I was curious. Then I saw the pub date for that book.

Not trying to insinuate anything, just noticing as "huh.. weird"

Fun story: my boyfriends dog ate a massive dildo he found in boyfriend's roommates room. Scattered pieces everywhere. The livingroom was never the same. Anyways tge point is that dogs will eat/chew anything. Sex paraphernalia is not off limits.
