DTLA bike lane gaps

I'm trying to commute from Echo Park to Fashion District, but damn there's so many just completely incomprehensible gaps in the DTLA bike lane network. Why does Grand St just disappear three blocks before it connects to 2nd St????

Is there a better way to get from 2nd to Washington Blvd without just getting dumped into a 6 lane street?

Roughriding

I'm a commuter and hobby cyclist. I have a couple ebikes (mine for commuting to work and my wifes for fun), along with an acoustic that I use from time to time. They're nice bikes and I take care of them, but in the span of 6 months I've broken more back spokes than I can count. I'm carrying some stuff on my back rack, like my lunch box and a change of clothes, but i'm not surpassing any weight limit. I didn't think I was riding on very rough roads, a few bumps here and there, but I avoid them as best as possible. Is anyone else having these problems?

Ballona creek bike trail

Does anyone know the width of the chainlink gates on this trail? I want to ride my fully loaded touring bike down to the coast and concerned my rear mounted panniers might not clear the opening easily without having to dismount and walk it thru.

Creek covering Bike Path @ Lincoln

The Kelvin wave is kelvining. The hide tide covers the Ballona path at Lincoln. It is only an inch or two deep but can look deeper because of the shade from the bridge.

What would it take, theoretically to get them to open the dirt trails in Griffith Park to bikes, even 1 day a week for limited hours?

As a fellow LA biker, I wanted to come here to see if anyone was in the market for a used bike. I am selling an All City Space Horse Tiagra (61cm) for $1000. I to make room in the house and I haven't used the bike in a couple years now.
Comes with all original parts + a Charge Spoon saddle and MKS Gamma pedals.
Purchased at Allez LA in November 2023. This bike has less than 1000 miles on it, mostly on the LA River Path and in Griffith Park, and has been well maintained.
More info about the bike, which is now discontinued and a collectors item here: https://allcitycycles.com/bikes/space_horse_tiagra

2 additional stems (Velo Orange 80mm and Velo Orange 100mm) can be included if you would like to adjust the fit of the bike.

Pickup only in Cypress Park (90065).

Dude yelled at me for riding on the street??

Was heading home taking side streets cuz it’s nice and quiet. As I was on a fairly narrow street, I heard a driver behind me. I knew I wasn’t riding super fast as I normally do so when I got to an intersection, I pulled over to the side and slowed down so the driver had full clearance to pass. As he passed, he was mouthing something at me.

Shortly up ahead he was turning into a driveway when I pulled up to figure out what his deal was. He rolled down the window and started berating me saying I should be riding on the sidewalk and that’s what they were for. But then I calmly retorted saying bikes were legally allowed on the road to which he started barking at me talking shit to which I clapped back cuz he’s an idiot for not knowing that. He then just continued his turn while yelling from his driver seat like a baby.

I honestly should have just ignored it but it pissed me off that I gave him consideration by pulling over and he decided to yell instead.

Goddamn fucking drivers are so entitled. I hate car culture here

DOT to report back on installing Toronto Barriers in house

The City of Los Angeles has a protected bike lane network of 90.7 lane miles. The majority of these protected bike lanes are protected by plastic K71 bollards, a temporary treatment. K71 bollards are designed to be a quick build and easily bend or crumble should a vehicle come into contact with them. They neither protect cyclists nor last long; the average K71 bollard has to be replaced every 7 months, wasting City resources and time.
Recently the Department of Transportation (LADOT) has been experimenting with Toronto Style Barriers, a modular concrete barrier that is bolted to the ground. This is a durable alternative to cast in place concrete curbing, suitable for use on busy streets that would ensure buffers between the bike lane and travel lane. Pilot projects have been successful on Third Street in Downtown Los Angeles and on Imperial Highway near Dockweiler Beach. Further installations are planned on Ohio Avenue, Chandler Boulevard, and Spring Street/Alameda Street. Toronto Style Barriers truly protect bike lanes from vehicle intrusion and have a much longer life span, making them cost less over the long run.
Currently, LADOT is unable to install Toronto Style Barriers themselves, and must rely on the Bureau of Street Services for the heavy equipment required to move and locate the barriers for installation. LADOT should be able to have this capacity in-house, without having to rely on resources from other Departments.
I THEREFORE MOVE to INSTRUCT the LADOT to report back on the resources required to enable the Department to install Toronto Style Barriers in-house.
