Commuting mid city -> cedars

Thoughts on night shift (7pm-7am)commute from mid city to cedars in Beverly? I know the main roads are busy so I’m planning on taking residential streets instead. Also using a fixed brakeless bike

A brakeless bike? That seems really unsafe for city commuting at those times of day which are flavors of rush hour. Is this a 2012 era beach cruiser?

It’s a steel and carbon fixed track bike with a basket😂I did a bikepacking trip from oc to San Diego with the same setup earlier this year

I really think you need breaks. Lots of reasons why you might need to stop suddenly, and from personal experience, one should cease inertia due to breaks rather than one's body hitting a larger, heavier object.

Seems easy enough to add a break just in case. You don’t even have to use it if you don’t need it.

Easy commute on a bike with brakes.

having gears is nice tbh, just so much faster and easier and more efficient.

main roads are actually imo chiller to bike in when its busy than not. i take the full right lane and force people to pass me. then when i come up to the red light i lane split passed everyone stopped in the right lane and pull out in front of them in the crosswalk and retake the lane.

you are going to be going at busier times either end around 6pm and 8am. tbh not sure where you are coming from in mid city but id rip la cienega or san vicente the whole way taking the right lane as I described where there isn't a bike lane. if you opt for the residential streets try and go for ones that have signalled intersections with the main road. not all of them actually pick up the bike on the signal strips so if there isn't a car to trigger it for you, you may have to bike over to the crosswalk and hit the button to trigger the light.
