DC: Formal Is this too formal for a formal wedding?

The volume of the skirt seems larger in person, also it's listed as a "ball gown." I'm worried this is too dramatic for a formal attire wedding. Dress code: "floor-length gown, an elegant cocktail dress, or an elegant midi dress." Wedding starts at like 4 PM.

I really like wearing black dresses but now wondering if this is the right choice. I typically dont go with "loud/busy" dresses and prefer simple dresses where I can play with the accessories and makeup. For this one im planning golden accessories and clutch, black shoes, and magenta lips. Any thoughts?

It has pockets and really bring out my features.

Edit: Id be wearing this to both the church ceremony and reception - with a shawl given the weather.

DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Semi Formal Wedding

Semi Formal Wedding, this weekend, and they used LuLus website as the guidance in the digital wedding invitation. I purchased 3 dresses from LuLus and I HATED them all. Looked so cheap, fit weird. CHEAP around $50.00-$100.00 per dress. The shoes from the guest outfit recommendations were like $450.00- not their fault it’s just what the planners put together as a suggestion for guests!

I found this at JCPenney. I know it’s pretty but I’m concerned it’s too much or too dressy. My boyfriend likes it, and sent it to his sisters brides maids and they said it’s beautiful and perfect for the wedding.

Opinion?

DC: Formal Saturday Night Wedding in Lancaster PA, part 2

I posted last week - I had the controversial cheetah print dress! I went shopping and am now ready with round 2.

Formal dress at the Cameron Estate Inn in Lancaster.

The black is a pantsuit.
Hubs likes the sparkly navy but I think it may be a tad too much?
I’m second guessing myself because I had no idea that formal meant floor length and I was the only woman in a short dress at our nephew’s wedding earlier this year. Retroactively MORTIFIED!

Assistance and input greatly appreciated

DC: Black/White Tie Black Tie Wedding - is it okay to have dress not cover shoes/ankles?

I rented a dress for a black tie wedding but I’m realizing that it is a little short on me (would make my shoes fully visible) - is that inappropriate for black tie?

Hi!!
To be fair I have been to over 150 weddings but never as a guest—always as the photographer. So this is my first time really getting to dress for a black tie wedding. How is this dress reading? Does it work for black tie?

Thank you!

Purple or green?

I showed the bride the first dress, and she said it fit well with their vibe of “classy elegance.” Even though I have her approval, Im still feeling anxious that other guests might think I am crazy. Haha. So tell me, which one should i wear?? I think Im more comfortable in the purple dress because the green dress is quite revealing (i often dress pretty modestly.) but i think the green dress is more appropriate for a guest, right??

Fwiw:
- my husband is a groomsman and he (and all groomsmen, plus the groom) will be wearing a tuxedo.
- venue is at a winery in Northern California
- i already own both dresses 😅

EDITS:
- green dress is made of chiffon

DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code Casual Cocktail Rehearsal

Are any of these appropriate for a “casual cocktail” rehearsal dinner/welcome drinks? Bay Area at a restaurant on the water. For more context, my husband is the best man so we’ll both be at the rehearsal dinner and the welcome drinks. Groom told my husband to either wear a sport coat and slacks or his navy suit - he’ll be wearing his navy suit. I like the brown but worry about the length of the underskirt.

Long time lurker finally time to post…. Wedding is in Asheville NC next weekend. Dress code is cocktail attire. My cousin the Groom said not too strictly enforced. Will be attending with my two young daughters and want to be able to move without restriction. I included some more casual options if you would also like to chime in about what I could wear to the welcome party bbq the night before… What do you think Reddit? 🤗

Wedding Question Smart casual welcome dinner/rehearsal dinner??

Have a wedding next weekend and everyone is invited to the rehearsal dinner/welcome party since it’s an out of town event for most people. The invitation says smart casual. Wtf does that mean. Can I just wear like black slacks and nice top? Or do I need to get another dress. I’m a grad student so I’m trying to use something I already have as opposed to having to buy another outfit. I’m assuming jeans are out and I don’t really have a skirt or anything.

They would be like black tailored pants and light green mock neck tank top kinda something I would wear to a big presentation in school lol.

DC: Black/White Tie Black tie appropriate?

Post image

Is this black tie wedding appropriate? If so, what kind of shoes should I get? I was thinking a silver heel. And what kind of bag/clutch?!

I don’t get out often!

EDIT: it is a black tie optional event, I’m 5’ 2” so the gown is actually floor length and the slit isn’t as high as the photo.

I will look into other options!

DC: Formal NYE Black Tie Optional Wedding: Help Me Find the Perfect Post Cancer Glow Up Dress!

I’m attending a New Year’s Eve wedding for one of my last single sorority sisters, and I am SO excited! All of my sorority girls and their husbands will be there, many of whom I haven’t seen since my cancer diagnosis.

By NYE, I’ll officially be DONE with cancer treatment, and I want to look and feel absolutely fabulous! I’ll also be debuting my newly grown-in hair after chemo, so this night feels extra special. I’m ready for my comeback moment!

Here’s the dress code straight from the invitation:
“Black tie optional with New Year’s Eve sparkle encouraged. Glitz, glam, velvet, tuxedos, gowns, and polished cocktail looks all fit the night. Give us your best swanky styles as long as you can still shake and shimmy!”
I’m looking for something glamorous, flattering, and fun that makes me feel like a million bucks without upstaging the bride, of course!

One little wrinkle: Between cancer medications, steroids, and treatment, I’ve gained some weight and am currently wearing a size 14/16. I’m still getting used to dressing my new body, so I’d love suggestions for styles that are flattering, comfortable enough to dance in, and make me feel confident.
I’d love your recommendations! Any specific dresses, brands, websites, or styles I should check out? I’m open to sequins, velvet, sparkle, and all things NYE glam!

I’ve spent most of this year fighting cancer, and I’m so grateful to be here. Now I just want to put on a fabulous dress, celebrate my friend, dance with my girls, and feel like myself again.

DC: Formal Formal beach wedding

November wedding, mid to late afternoon ceremony
Beach town (wedding and reception are not on the beach, but this is a town you go to for the beach)
Dress code- formal

I would like to wear this dress because I already own it, but it feels dark and heavy for an afternoon wedding in a beach down. But it does hit the formal mark.

Do I need to try again, or can I wear this? What day you all?

DC: Formal Outerwear

Can someone link appropriate pics of what outwear would look like for formal and elevated cocktail dress code? I doubt I'll even pass the formal dress code, but it might be chilly so something to wear over a dress is suggested. Is this like a blazer or coat?

Wedding May outdoors in Colorado

*Also, if anyone has suggestions of where to shop for plus size dresses that'd be great

I’m wearing a burgundy dress to a black-tie wedding on Saturday but have no clue what to do for shoes and a purse. I own black heels, cream/white heels, and pearl-studded kitten heels. Also, all my jewelry is silver!! Also, if this is not black tie please don’t yell at me it’s the dress the mother of the groom told me to wear.

Going to friends wedding this weekend. I have bought this dress already but now I’m overthinking it and need to know other people’s opinions. Is it too much??? There’s no dress code. All the woman will just be wearing their style of dress. I chose this one because I wanted a wine red color look. But is the back too revealing?? Is the chest too revealing?? (I have small boobs ¯_(ツ)_/¯ )

DC: Special Dress Code Wedding Attire Color Advice

Thumbnail

Hi all, I am looking at dresses for a wedding later this year. The couple has posted some guidance for colors. They recommend attendees avoid a dark blue-green color (1st pic) because the bridal party will be wearing it, but say that a few other colors (including a dark navy blue, 2nd pic) are welcomed.

I found this dress online (3rd pic) and really like it, but I’m wondering if the combination of the similarity between the colors and the cut/style of the dress I found could end up looking too similar to the bridal party.

I’ve asked friends/family and have gotten mixed advice on whether I should buy the dress or find a different one. So Reddit, would you wear this dress or pass for something more different?

Thanks!

DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Is this too much as a wedding guest?

The dress code is semi formal. I’m just worried it’s too much because I never dress this fancy and I don’t wanna accidentally break any wedding rules. Also I have this dress because I wore it as a bridesmaid in another friend’s wedding. Is that a no no?
EDIT: the mirror is dirty asf guys the dress is clean
