Finished Project Update: I went with wall!

Post image

The frame job isn't quite right but it's what I had on hand! And I'm proud of myself... I've been wanting to push myself into trying to using weaving to create studio art pieces. So... This is "Slash and Burn". Deflected doubleweave using a combination of 8/2 unmercerized cotton, 10/2 pearle cotton, and linen. Painted warp.

Thanks for the input! Wet finishing really was the decider... It turned out more golden than I would wear so to the wall it went.

Oooo that's nice! I love how you've laid it out in the frame. Hoping to see more iterations!

This is so so beautiful ! And I love the way you’ve laid out the piece for framing.

When you decide to frame it properly, I would go with a cream backing, no mat, allowing more space on all sides of the piece and a lighter coloured frame, perhaps oak. It would look like a museum piece. As it stands the blue and black overpower the piece I think.

I'm with you for sure on it needing more space and needing a lighter colored frame! I also need to play with the backing. I like that the blue brings out the blue in the weft but i need to try it on different colors and see how it plays out. Thanks!

It’s obviously your thing. And the blue background brings out the blues in the piece, but my personal opinion is that’s more of an outfit thing. It would look great with a blue coat.

This, however, is art. You want what you’ve woven to shine, the background should disappear!

I'll give it a go and see! Seriously appreciate the feedback! ❤️

If you do that, I suggest you find a fabric for the backing, like it's part of artwork. Probably you'd need a furnishing fabric that's been treated to not fade. I'm imagining a light blue silk with a delicate sheen.

I would use invisible stitching and maybe give the piece a few curves rather than just laying it flat like that. Textiles are flexible, so why not tap into that for a pretty effect?

(This is giving me ideas for my own weaving, which I can't bear to use as just ordinary fabric and that I would like to showcase as art)

Definitely a very lightly coloured frame, so you home in on the beautiful colours you have woven.

It'll Never cease to Amaze me how spectacular the creative minds ability continues to exceed expectations...
You luv, are a Flawless example how stunning "fiber art" can present itself when handled by one as creatively free as yourself. I cannot assemble the words to properly speak to how in awe I am!
Just fabulous 🤍

Omg I hope you’re desperately in love with it and will never let it go, but just in case: are you considering selling this piece?

That's incredibly kind! Tell you what, let me let you know. Right now I'm trying to build a portfolio but if I decide to let it go (after getting it properly framed!) I'll give you a shout. ❤️

Incredible! I get a little hint of a Celtic knot with how you laid it out. That could be an interesting direction to explore moving forward.

Your sense of color is spectacular. This is so much more than just another wall hanging - really inspired!

What are the dimensions of the weaving? I love how it is folded.
