Work in Progress Wearable or wall?
Painted 8/2 cotton warp + deflected doubleweave, using a variety of wefts: 10/2 mercerized, 8/2 unmercerized, 8/2 unmercerized cotton slub, and linen. Approximately 24 epi and ppi.
Still needs to be wet finished. Now I'm struggling to decide whether to turn this into a piece of wall art or an infinity scarf! I welcome opinions!

Something that beautiful needs to be worn. Give people to the chance to appreciate it
Unless you happen to have a ton of house parties :D

I would absolutely wear that - it is gorgeous. I would make sure not to wear it with a coat with a zipper that might snag it.

Thank you! And that's probably my biggest hesitation! In addition to the general float-yness that is deflected doubleweave, I've got a couple of little spots with some longer floats that resulted from a stuck shaft that I didn't catch till too late. Since it's mostly cotton, I know it won't felt up... So I gotta cross my fingers and hope a wet finish will tighten it up enough to not be an earring grabber!

Is it soft? How is the drape? How bulky is it? What kind of wearable are you thinking? How would you describe your style? I think wall or wearable are both good options, just depends of you

It's got great movement and drape... It's so light it would really be more of an accessory scarf than a functional one, but I live in a pretty moderate climate so that's not a huge deal.
I'm actually kinda struggling the other way... I know it could be a good wearable, I'm not sure if it could be a good piece of decorative art! That's where I have less confidence in my weaving. :-)

It sounds like you want it to be decor, you are just feeling insecure and are considering going for the typical option. I think attaching a wooden dowel to the short end and hanging from there would be beautiful (as long the weave can handle the stretch). There’s also some more sculptural displays, like twisting it and pinning it into place in a cohesive composition. You have options!

It looks beautiful just as it is in the photo, I think the twisting would really bring out its beauty

Mesmerizing, you truly master this art. It is an incredible textile piece 🥹 Would love to see it worn, the way it would drape over a shoulder would add to it in my opinion, better than laid flat.

That's such a kind compliment, thank you. I'm a pretty new weaver (less than a year!) but I dove in head first. You make a really good point about dimensionality! ❤️

So pretty! How many shafts do you need for this type of pattern?

Thanks for asking this, I had the exact same question! Now I'm considering upgrading my 4-shaft Leclerc to an 8-shaft, oh boy. :)

If it were mine I think it is too pretty to wear. I would be terrified of ruining it. It would already be on my wall! It is stunning!

Do you have a link or reference or something to what pattern this is? there's a lot of deflected double weaves it seems.

Sure thing! Right here. I wound this warp as part of a zoom workshop with Natalie Drummond. Then we wove it up fairly independently. But she provided the threading and treadling drafts.

Insane work, truly amazing. Personally I would hang that up to show it off

It's incredible! I'd wet finish it and get it properly mounted/framed. That belongs in a prominent place!

Beautiful! I’m studying it, trying to figure out how the gradients are structured. (I’m listening if you’re sharing… lol)
I’d wet finish before deciding on how to wear or display it. It’ll change quite a bit with a hot wash, dry, and steam.
