Warp is 8/2 cotton from the Woolery, weft is Red Heart Unforgettable in the color Gossamer. Plain tabby weave.

Like crow feathers in the sun. Beautiful!

I like that, it always amazes me that black feathers aren't always black!

That sounds deliciously less expensive than 98% of weaving is, and it's beautiful, too.

Thanks! I think my initial reaction was "yummmm..." πŸ˜†

It is beautiful! Amazing, just Amazing! What are your plans for it after done weaving?

3

u/Wild_Individual2224 Jan 23 '26

I'm going to cut it into scarf lengths, or sew a jacket or vest. Maybe make a stuffed animal. πŸ€” I couldn't decide when I picked out the yarn, so I'm weaving yardage and I'll decide later! 😁

Those all sound amazing! Weaving it allows you to get your craftin on while still leaving options open. Whatever you decide, I am quite sure it will be stunning. Thanks for sharing and keep us, or just me, updated on your decision.

I'm finding I enjoy that part of weaving. When I crochet, I have to know what it is going to be at the end before I ever start and I get decision paralysis. As long as that doesn't happen when I'm done weaving I will definitely share the end results!

u/FreezNGeezer Jan 23 '26

I know the paralysis by analysis! Remember that it can be so much more, and finding what the fabric wants to become is part of the fun. You obviously have the ability to make more of this fabric so dont be afraid to use it. Crafting and making is what makes it fun. Your own effort put into a 1 of a kind, or super limited, item that is all you is a feeling that is hard to recreate. Sketch out ideas, or make enough fabric for multiple crafts, creativity is a muscle that must be exercised to strengthen. Take inspiration wherever it comes from and in whatever form. I can't wait to see what you shape it into!

I looooooove variegated yarns! Sometimes that striping doesn’t work for what you want, but in this case it looks excellent!!!!

I'm loving watching the colors change and pool!

Oh that is beautiful! Reminds me of the birefringence colours seen in rocks under a polarized microscope!

This is gorgeous, almost holographic looking!

Looking through the warp to the fabric winding on the front beam is really trippy!

I don't know if this is even the right question to ask, what type of weaving this is? Ive been starting to get interested in weaving but not sure where to start. I really like the look of your project and didn't know what I would need to start with to get a similar look. It looks amazing by the way! I have a ton of verigated yarns that were given to me for my crochet but it's hard to find the right project and stitch to use them. It would be great to add something else into the mix I could use them for

I'm just doing a tabby weave: over one, under one. I'm making yardage and trying to use up a bunch of yarn I have. This is a four harness Kessenich loom. And I'm just using a simple 8/2 cotton warp yarn. I made a graduated warp using 5 colors and approximately 36 strands of each, and the bright lines in the warp are individual metallic threads I added to the warp thread in those places... I hope this helps a bit!

To be completely honest, I'm still a little lost with some of the terminology lol. I'm comfortable with searching the terms and figuring it out though. Thank you for taking the time to answer and I'm looking forward to seeing it finished ☺️

1

u/mydogisapony Jan 23 '26

I'm still learning too. What's a graduated warp?

1

u/Wild_Individual2224 Jan 23 '26

The warp threads are not all one color. I've started with green, after about 30 strands I added in one teal, then 3 green, then 2 teal, 2 green, 3 teal, 1 green and then solid teal for another 30ish strands before doing the same pattern with teal and blue, etc. You can see a little bit of this pattern happening near the red tie.

Such a beautiful colour I immediately checked to see if anyone local to me sells it 🀩

This is sooooo pretty I love it!! Are the base strings the same as the string out have in your shuttle?

2

u/Wild_Individual2224 Feb 17 '26

Thank you! The warp is 5 cool colors of cotton - green, teal, blue, purple, and black.

The weft is a rainbow acrylic.
