Problem Driver Issue? OS Problem? Both? NEITHER?!

• Upvotes

I just bought a new M6 Mac Mini with OS27 preinstalled. I've been trying to use it with an Apple Display, Intuos Pro (which I essentially use as a mouse) and a Cintiq Pro 24 plugged in directly via USB-C. This setup has been near-perfect with my M4 Macbook Air. On the Mini, though, despite several clean installations (and deinstallations) of the newest Wacom driver (6.4.15-1), the Intuos stops accepting tap-clicks after 5-10 minutes—and sometimes even quicker than that. The cursor follows the pen tip and hovers around, but I can't click on anything, or click and drag. Restarting the driver "fixes" it, but the same thing happens again almost immediately.

I've scoured every Wacom-related detail on the Mini to make sure all of the required permissions are in place (and fully deleted before reinstalling the driver), and I'm pretty sure I have everything set up correctly. I even tried connecting the Intuos on its own, but the clickability still breaks. The only differences I can see are the Macbook Air is still running OS26 with the previous generation of Wacom driver installed (6.4.13-4).

Any suggestions? If I can't resolve this, the Mini's going straight back to Apple. I only bought it because I have some big projects coming up and didn't want to risk thermal throttling on the fan-less Macbook Air. But under these circumstances the Mini is basically unusable.

Problem Why won't my wacom citiq 16 turn on?

Everything is plugged in and everything is installed and downloaded, but my tablet won't turn on nor does the button show any lights. I've tried holding it down, unplugging it and replugging it, and used different cables but nothing has worked.

USB and HDMI are both plugged into the computer.

The power box is blinking the green light.

Nothing on the tablet is awake.

Everything is set up but the tablet is showing no signs of waking up.

Problem Cintiq running slow and making squeak noise from the fan

I've got a Cintiq 24pro and I keep hearing a squeak, like a gear grinding, and the fans are running pretty strong. Edit: even after restarting and reinstalling the driver and turning the screen off I still hear the noise, but the monitor is still lagging. I thought my computer was lagging so I restarted it all and it was actually the cintiq screen itself causing a lag.

I've updated the driver to the latest and restarted the computer and it's still doing it. I've had a problem in the past where while drawing something with a large file on a less powerful computer, the fan would randomly start blowing really hard for a little bit and stop.

Always the right side fan, which is where I think the sound is coming from now too.

Edit: Just to be clear, it's not the pen that's lagging, but the entire computer. Dragging windows around, spinning things in 3D in blender, it's all extremely slow. If I simply move the window to my laptop screen and do the same thing, it's fine.

News / PSA Gave my 10+ year old Wacom a new surface texture!

After seeing how much hate an AI-assisted text generates with you guys, I give you the human written version.

First and foremost, because I really think this idea was shareworthy and I personally would be very happy, if someone brought this up to me, because I love this kind of stuff!

So I see your criticism, but I don’t want the original idea and process to be overshadowed by it (which came without any artificial thought ;) ).

—————————————————

NEW VERSION ↓

—————————————————

Matt car wrap vinyl makes a hell of a good surface replacement for my 10+ year old Wacom PTH-851!
The original surface was very worn down, besides everything working fine, it has a quite unpleasant look to it.

So after a little research and testing different surfaces in my house (literally using the Wacom Pen on my kitchen counter and other vinyl-wrapped surfaces), matt car wrap vinyl seemed the most promising shot!

And let me tell you, this has worked fantasticly!
Being self adhesive and bubble free, it applies very easily to the surface.
I’ve precut it in the exact same dimensions, which was not even necessary, because overhang could be very easily cut with a precision knife. So you can just cut it approximately to the size and trim it afterwards.

—

• The overall feeling is great, just the right resistance and feedback when using the pen.
• Clothes or painting gloves slide very well, much easier than the shiny, worn out surface.
• After using it for two days of work, the pen nib does not seem to do any noticeably damage, besides some little residue which I do not notice at all.
• Acoustic feedback is more noticeable, but I don’t mind it and it quite grew on me!

—————————————————

OG AI-ASSISTED POST ↓

—————————————————

Disclaimer: I used AI to help write this post because I don't have the time or patience for a detailed write-up.

My trusty Wacom PTH-851 has been in daily use for over 10 years. It still works perfectly fine, but the original surface has become so worn down that it's practically polished smooth.

I started looking for ways to bring back some texture. Furniture vinyl seemed promising at first, but after testing similar surfaces in my kitchen with the Wacom pen, I found them way too rough.

Eventually, I came across matte automotive vinyl wrap. Cheap, self-adhesive, durable, and slightly textured.

So I ordered a sheet, applied it, and honestly, the result is incredible.

The surface is completely matte, provides just enough resistance for the pen, and feels surprisingly natural. Even after repeatedly working on the same areas, the pen leaves barely any visible marks.

Interestingly, skin and clothing glide across the surface quite easily, so working without a drawing glove is absolutely possible. Personally, I still prefer using one.

Application was surprisingly easy. I measured and precut the film, but in hindsight, I'd recommend applying a slightly oversized piece and carefully trimming the edges afterward with a precision knife.

I used a plastic card to smooth everything out, although the film's air-release properties made it almost unnecessary. Just make sure the surface is completely clean and dust-free.

The new texture and the sound of the pen take a little getting used to, but it genuinely feels like using a brand-new tablet again.

One small warning: Removing the film might be tricky since automotive vinyl uses fairly strong adhesive. Gentle heat from a hairdryer might help, but I haven't tested that.

For now, it sticks perfectly, and I'm really impressed with how much of a difference such a cheap modification makes.

Definitely worth considering if your old Wacom is still going strong but the surface has seen better days.

Problem Wacom Intuos Pro L (PTH-851) severe drawing freezes in Photoshop/Krita – Wacom deleted my thread, so posting here instead.

(Note: I originally posted this on the official Wacom Support forum, but the thread was quietly removed/deleted. Reposting here so other digital artists facing this exact nightmare don't waste months trying to troubleshoot a fundamentally broken driver issue.)

Hi, I'm a professional digital artist (working in gamedev) and I have been using Wacom tablets all my life. I started in 2006 with Intuos 3 and in 2018 I switched to a Wacom Intuos Pro L because I upgraded to a bigger working monitor and I needed a bigger surface area on my tablet to have a better active surface to screen size ratio.

It all worked well until these last two years when I started to encounter freezes in Photoshop while drawing. Basically, while drawing, the cursor would just freeze and if I didn't move the cursor it would remain frozen for 10min+ so the only way to fix this on the spot, was to constantly lift the pen and get it out of the tablet's range and then bring it back, and do this repeatedly. Sometimes it would recover in 5 seconds, other times in 30 seconds or more. You can imagine this was incredibly frustrating because I couldn't get into a working flow and it would happen randomly, sometimes once every 5 min, other times once every 20 min. It seemed to trigger more often if I would lift my hand holding the stylus farther from the tablet.

For an entire year I have tried all kind of fixes:

  • Switching cables & isolating the tablet on a single USB Hub
  • Removing/uninstalling all other peripheral devices (mouse, keyboard, webcam)
  • Trying a million different Wacom driver versions (old and new)
  • Reinstalling the old W10 OS & upgrading to Windows 11
  • Buying a new Wacom Tablet Intuos Pro L (different model)
  • Buying a new GPU (AMD as opposed to my previous Nvidia) & even a brand new PC
  • Testing other software (Krita, Paint) — problem persisted across all drawing apps.
  • Adjusting OS/driver/Photoshop settings (including the PSUserConfig.txt file to disable Windows Ink).

I tried reproducing the freezes while running LatencyMon and the culprit seemed to be the Kernel graphics drivers which seemed to temporarily block the processing of the stylus' input:

nvlddmkm.sys - NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver
Highest execution: ~310 ms

dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel
Highest execution: ~169 ms

tcpip.sys - TCP/IP Driver
Highest execution: ~2.5 ms

Wdf01000.sys - Kernel Mode Driver Framework Runtime
Highest execution: ~147 ms

The problem is directly linked to how the Wacom driver handles input processing for the Intuos Pro L (PTH-851) model. The only solution that finally worked was replacing the Wacom tablet entirely and moving to a completely different brand with non-Wacom drivers.

This whole experience has been a nightmare for my professional and personal work. I've tolerated Wacom's notorious "The Wacom driver is not responding" bugs for years (at least a PC restart fixed those), but this micro-freezing issue completely broke my ability to work. For a product sold at a premium price point, this level of driver instability is unacceptable.

My Solution: If you are experiencing this exact issue and wasting endless hours troubleshooting, consider trying a different brand. I ended up switching to an XP-Pen Deco Pro XLW Gen 2 (half the price of the Wacom, with a large active area), and the freezes disappeared instantly. I'm not endorsing XP-Pen specifically as I'm sure any other brand that uses a non-Wacom driver stack would achieve the same result.

Shame on Wacom for deleting my post on the official community forums! I had replies from other users confirming they were experiencing the exact same issue and apparently the only way Wacom is able to address the issue is to delete user posts and disable the community forums completely (as of today 13.10.2026) instead of fixing the problems they created in the first place.

I'm sharing this so anyone facing this issue doesn't waste an entire year trying to fix something that shouldn't be broken in the first place. I am done with Wacom products and their horrible business practices.

Cheers!

Problem Cintiq 24 Touch connected to a Macbook Air M4, screen freezes sometimes before saying Touch On, Touch off.

Hello, I have had my Cintiq 24 Touch since Christmas 2025 and it has worked perfectly until about a month-ish ago, I’m not sure if an update bugged it but I’ll be drawing and then suddenly the screen completely freezes and then for what lasts about 6 seconds says Touch on then Touch off, this happens like every 15-25 minutes and gets really annoying as a comic artist, my laptop and the Wacom program are both completely updated and the USB-C to USB-C cable is not worn and is plugged in properly. If I click restart driver it unfreezes faster, and I don’t have the touch feature on (practically ever). I’m not sure what the problem is or how to fix this, if anyone has information please respond thank you. 🙏

Problem Gray screen

I was in the middle of drawing on my Cintiq 16 Pro and it suddenly turned to this screen—it’s like gray with rgb pixels. Only happens when it’s connected to my laptop via usbc (haven’t tried hdmi yet), boots up fine (regular loading screen). I tried resetting all the display stuff and the driver, but nothing worked. I thought maybe it was a connection problem with my usbc, so I tried an old one I used previously and had the same result. What happened and is there any solutions or am I cooked??

Problem Middle part of the screen malfunctioning (Wacom Intuos Pro M PTH-651)

Screen sort of "gives out" right in the middle. Anywhere else it reacts just fine.

Hello,
I'm experiencing a weird malfunctioning in the middle of the screen. I tried to draw a straight line, but the screen is reacting weirdly.

I travel with this tablet quite often and keep it in a laptop bag together with my laptop as well. Do you think it's damage from transportation or just the screen giving out due to old age? I've had the tablet for well over 10 years.

Cable is also damaged, but I'm not sure if it would cause malfunctioning like this.

Is it something that could be repaired? Or should I just bid this tablet a farewell and get myself a new one?

Thank you for your answers in advance.

Operating system: Windows 11

Model: Wacom Intuos Pro M PTH-651

Driver: 6.4.9-2, can't upgrade to new drivers as the tablet stops working completely due to the model not being supported anymore

Damaged cable (the outer protective layer is cracked on multiple places)

I'm just dropping this note, and I hope you'll find it useful. Last week, the Cosmic 1.10 update was released, which includes support for Wacom. It's an initial release—some features are still missing—but I'm already using it and it works fine. I tested it on my Cintiq 16.

Purchase Advice Best PC for color Accuracy?

I own a 24- inch iMac M1. coupled with a Wacom 24- inch 2025 model touch. One thing I like about Wacom 24 touch is the touch feature. I initially had it paired with a Geekum mini PC just to get that touch feature to work, and it worked very well. But what I found out is when I got ready to print off the work that I had done, the colors looked nothing like they looked on the screen. The colors were darker and muddy. but what I have noticed on my Mac is that the colors are spot on whatever I see on the Mac screen is what is going to show up when I print my work. I am truly missing that touch functionality I get with the PC. Can anyone recommend a PC that will get me that same color accuracy I get with my Mac? preferably a mini PC, but if not recommend a PC that won’t break the bank. I don’t need one with a whole lot of storage. just something with some good color accuracy.

Problem Is there a way to crop the drawing area? Currently, I can only select "Use full area"?

I'm on latest macOS, and Wacome One S, Latest Wacom Center, Tablet Driver Version: 6.4.14.
Would be great if there was a way to crop the drawing area on my screen!

EDIT: I've solved it, this was hidden in "Show adcanced options"! :)

Problem Wacom PTH-660 pressure not working on macos 27

Hi everyone,

I'm having issues with pen pressure on my PTH-660 - Wacom Intuos Pro M (2017) on macos 27.
I've tried:
updating the driver to 6.4.15-1
Open Wacom Tablet Utility and removing it

Both fixes the issue for about 30 minutes, but then pen pressure stops working correctly again.
I can then go to System Settings and see that it still detects the pen pressure, so the hardware seems to be working.
Has anyone experienced something similar or found a permanent fix?

Problem Question: "Compatible display device not found" for Wacom Cintiq 16

I have a Wacom Cintiq 16 DKT1660K0A (purchased in 2020) that I'm trying to set up on my Macbook Air (M3, 2024). I installed the latest driver for the Cintiq 16, but when I open the Wacom Welcome Center to finish setting it up, I get the error message "Compatible display device not found." My cables appear to be in good condition and connected correctly. I can choose to mirror my laptop's display from the top navigation bar on my laptop, but I don't see the additional display in my system settings. So, I'm not sure what's going on. Is my Cintiq too old for the latest driver?

Question Is it safe to move cintiq 24 around on the same desk?

Hi, i bought a cintiq 24 which i place on the side of my desk normally and move it to the middle when in use. All the cables are constantly attached, so no plugging/ unplugging action. And I'm always suuuper careful when moving it around.

Is this safe/good for the tablet's health ? I'm an avid gamer but draw quite often(daily) as well so i'd prefer access to both setup, but also concerned on whether it's good for the tablet...

(Sorry if this seems like a silly question - it's quite the costly investment so I'd like to take care of it!!)

Problem Wacom Cintiq 16 detected by computer but getting No HDMI Signal

Hello, I've had this issue for two days. I have my tablet plugged in using a mini HDMI to HDMI cable, updated wacom and graphics cards drivers, and everything else (pen, power) all work fine. In display settings my tablet is identified but when I turn it on I get No Signal HDMI and then it goes into power saving mode. I bought a brand new mini HDMI to HDMI cable from Best Buy today and it's still giving the same issue. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Doing this on Widnows, thanks in advance.

Problem bamboo tablet pen pressure not working

so my tablet was working perfectly fine last week i have an older model the bamboo ctl 470. i know its old but its been going strong until today...until i attempted to betray it and try using a different device T_T my roommate gave me their huion kamvas 12 because they don't use it. so i decided to try it out of curiousity. i installed the driver for it but i noticed i can't use the huion tablet either because it has a hmdi plug but i only have one hdmi port on my computer and i'm using it for my monitor. so i go back to my bamboo and try using it and i noticed the pen pressure isn't working. i figured its because i installed the huion driver on my computer and maybe it was conflicting with the wacom driver so i go through all the trouble uninstalling the huion driver and the pen pressure still isn't working. so i delete my current wacom driver and install it from the official wacom site and the pen pressure still isn't working. i checked my device manager and it says: This device cannot start. (Code 10)STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR. idk what any of this means can anyone help?

*problem has been fixed thanks to the tablet driver cleanup tool*

Purchase Advice Is a Wacom Cintiq Pro 32 worth the buy in 2026?

To quickly give context i have been a digital artist for 9 years and i only ever used a Wacom Intuos Pro M. I love my intuos but its time for an upgrade. I currently am a full time comic artist and i noticed i struggle intensly with lineart due to the limitation of my tools.

I live in a country where wacom demand is extremely low. Thereofre one can always find cheap listings.

I found a listing for a Wacom Cintiq pro 32 (with stand included) for roughly 1,440 USD. Basically mint condition/ just collecting dust.

I heard extremely mixed reviews on this model, and it might even be fully discontinued. But the price is really damn affordable. Still though i am not sure if its worth the buy.

The alternative "safe+longevity" option is the wacom cintiq 16 (2025 edition) from an importer for 1090USD.

Which should i get: the Pro 32 or the Cintiq 16?

Question Has anyone packed a Cintiq 22HD inside a Pelican 1650? Looking for foam layout advice / photos!

Hey everyone,

I need to safely transport my Wacom Cintiq 22HD, and I'm looking into getting a Pelican 1650 case to haul it around. Because the 22HD is such a tank with a massive bezel, I want to make sure it actually fits comfortably with enough foam protection before I drop the cash on the case.

Has anyone here actually done this specific setup? If you have, I'd love to know:

  • How did you layout the foam? Did you keep the stand attached, or do you have to take it off every time?
  • Did the standard Pick N Pluck foam hold up, or did the sharp corners of the Cintiq tear it up over time?
  • Do you have any photos of your layout?

Any advice, alternative case suggestions, or custom foam tips would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
