Discussion / Question What game is this for you?

Post image

Honestly for me it's Life is Strange: True Colors. Love that game to death, an incredible story and soundtrack, but it seems like a story that just doesn't vibe well with a lot of people. Listen to the soundtrack though, absolutely increible.

The Binding of Isaac. It's an unfair shit of piece roguelike game I play daily.

Which version of The Binding of Isaac? Rebirth is a very fair and evenhanded experience compared to some roguelikes I've played like Noita, Enter the Gungeon, and Spelunky 2. Those games are beyond maddening.

Not the person you're replying to.

I've had way less trouble with Enter the Gungeon than I do Binding of Isaac, mostly because I can actually reasonably interpret what most items will do for me.

It also doesn't toss 15 different status effects my way like TBOI does while expecting me to know what all of them do off rip.

That's part of the fun. For me tboi is all about the vibes man I don't even have item descriptions on I just play for

Gungeon is the best and I will accept no alternative opinions!

I didn’t say it’s bad. It’s a great game. But there were times then it was absolutely maddening.

As someone who played and loved Gungeon from release, it got so so so much better after the Advanced Gungeons and Draguns update. The synergies alone took it much closer to TBOI's level of replayability with each run feeling truly unique and dynamic.

What do you mean which version? Obviously you have to get every DLC before becoming back your money.

3

u/Benana Sep 04 '26

I’m an idiot. Of course it’s the Rebirth (plus DLC) version. But still, try those other Roguelikes. You’ll never think of The Binding of Isaac as being unfair again after trying those.

I've got all of them, exept Noita.

This shit never fails to make me laugh. It's his expression of pure, unbridled joy.

I will become back my money

TBOI really isn't that bad. It just requires learning some basic resource management and the risk/reward aspect is what keeps things interesting. You can get some hilariously broken builds.

If you’re a completionist stay FAR away from it

Try original Flash version.

u/Kanehammer Sep 04 '26

You're telling me a flash game made in 2011 has flaws?

Say it ain't so

3

u/SaveEmailB4Logout Sep 04 '26

It has only 1 flaw - it can't handle all the physics in real time so it stutters and lags in bullet hell-heavy levels which, it being a roguelike, induces STROKE GRADE RAAAAAAAAAAGE

I wouldnt wish completing tainted lost/javob and esau/tainted jacob/tainted lazarus on anyone

1

u/TheHellbilly Sep 04 '26

I find t.Lost very enjoyable, really. But then again, I also play greedier mode for fun.

5

u/kalapek Sep 04 '26

Actually i would recommend it to new players its a chill game

3

u/shvabrium Sep 04 '26

Came here to say the exact same thing

2

u/Datkif Sep 07 '26

It's engine isn't nicknamed the troll engine for nothing. The low lows are what make the broken runs so satisfying m

3

u/EvilSock Sep 04 '26

I'll forget that game exists for a while and then suddenly dump another 100+ hours into it. It's such a gross and unappealing aesthetic, but I just love the core gameplay too much to care

2

u/AdWaste1415 Sep 04 '26

I've always said that TBOI is the Dark Souls of Roguelike games, popular and unforgivingly hard, fuckin love that game though

2

u/raptureframe Sep 04 '26

It’s too great not to be recommended

Edmund Mcmillen

2

u/rykovmail Sep 04 '26

And it’s also ugly as hell.

1

u/Datkif Sep 07 '26

It's horrendous looking, the game came be painful to play, it never wants to give you a good item, it hates YOU, but I love it

2

u/Montymania94 Sep 05 '26

I openly admit that I'm absolutely shit at gaming. I struggle with anything harder than the original Spyro games.

Yet, when people try to guess where I picked picked my legal name from, they guess either Dead Space, or The Binding Of Isaac. I am nowhere near brave enough or good enough to play those! But I appreciate them thinking highly of me! 😂

(If anyone wants to guess; my first name is Isaac, and "video game" is the hint, of course!)

2

u/Liu-K Sep 05 '26

:D "shit of piece" I really appreciate having seen this. Thank you for the giggles and condolences.

2

u/hipstergothprincess Sep 05 '26

The exact right answer

2

u/Datkif Sep 07 '26

Isaac is the perfect example of a game that has a seething burning hatred for everyone that plays it, yet I still have around 1,000 hours across different platforms

1

u/TheHellbilly Sep 07 '26

Hard agree. I've got somewhere around 2600h, and counting.

1

u/BuildMeUp1990 Sep 04 '26

"shit of piece"?

1

u/TheHellbilly Sep 04 '26

Copypasta joke thing.
