It's such a shame that car combat as a genre seems to be effectively dead, I played the shit out of that, Vigilante 8, and TM:Black back in the day.

Jak X combat racing was my go-to for years. No other game has felt similar and I would buy a remake tomorrow if it dropped.

I played so. Much. Of that game. It's a shame that Ratchet and Clank is the only one of those PS2-era mascot platformers that even sorta survived.

I LOVED vigilante 8. Such weird games but they were so cool. 2nd offense was my shit. That giant ant stage was crazy lol.

Such cool weird lore and wacky characters.

You would think a new twisted metal game would make its money back on nostalgia alone. Bet you some guy high up was like sorry the show didn’t hit so no game (not that they were going to make one anyway)

The show is getting a third season.

I think balance is a problem along with problematic controls. It isn’t as if cars are great for combat. TM and Mario Kart seemed to have collected the niche. And maybe you could count Rocket League.

Fumes is the closest thing I’ve found these days.

You never played Crossout?

When they tried to bring back Twisted Metal on PS3, it just felt they were missing the plot line or something.

Oh, that looks amazing! And on sale, less than $10 right now? Done.

Wreckfest! Except you fight with your bare car (or bus)

Anyone remember Auto Assault? The MMO attempt of this genre?

3

u/MarsayF0X Jul 29 '26

Omg yes. Shadow was my go too.

Yeah, Shadow was awesome. IAlways loved to freeze the enemies before I nuked 'em with the special.;)

My buddy always used Spectre. We had every inch of that game figured out. So much fun.

If wreckfest could have weapons it would be fucking insane

TW2 was something i played every day for months when i was a kid, getting all the different endings for all the different characters was an obsession. calypso was such a good character and so devious with his monkey paw-esque 'rewards'

Sweettooth legit scared me the first time he popped up too.

Best one of the series, IMO

if they made it so you could also use the original twisted metal cars in that one i would buy in a second. in college we played soo much of that. we all had our fav cars and would fight for who had to take out trash or clean bathroom.

u/Assortedpez Jul 29 '26

Hell yeah. Twisted metal 1-4 were all bangers

The magic of this game was the special call-in's like the bubble shield, making your car jump, shooting napalm. It was magic car combat, such a great game.

Anything new and Twisted Metal would be great. Sony really are stupid to not have anything at all to tie in with the really fun TV show.

I mena whats that just twisted metal black? Like wasn't a direct remake obvioulsy but it was a return to the formula that made them great.
