Wearing pajamas in public isn't wrong or disrespectful

There's nothing wrong with wearing pajamas to the store, park, casual restaurant, or really anywhere that doesn't have a posted dress code. As long as someone is appropriately covered and not offending children, there's no valid reason to care what other people are wearing.

People act like wearing pajamas to the grocery store is a personal insult, when really it's the opposite. What is insulting is judging others by what they wear. I'm here to be comfortable, not to please your standards ripped straight out of the 50s.

I've been told my standards are low for this perspective and frankly I take that as a compliment. You should never set standards on how other people dress.

Good unpopular opinion. Upvote.

Now the reply: It's trashy and makes you look trashy. Have some pride in your appearance. First impressions last. If I see someone dressed trashy, I immediately think your judgment or opinion on anything is suspect at best. No one is saying dress in a suit. But If you look like you just got out of bed, its a bad look.

That's the problem with a lot of people nowadays. No one seems to have shame anymore.

I don't give a fuck what strangers' lasting impression of me is when I'm trying to get a loaf of bread and a carton of eggs on a Saturday morning. It's not a job interview. You will never know "my opinion on something" because I will never talk to you or see you again.

Then it doesn't affect you if someone is judging you, so who cares if they are?

That's literally my point.

Oh sorry, I misread that. So many people here are getting riled up about people being judgmental, when being judged by a stranger has no bearing on anything.

How you do anything is how you do everything. If you can’t dress respectable when going out into public I cannot respect you. Do you want my respect? Maybe not but it’s antisocial to “not care what strangers think” so as our society continues to decline, I don’t want to hear anything from your types. I personally do care what my neighbor thinks of me to a healthy extent.

Story time

I was running through Arby's after my kids were in bed and was only planning on the drive thru. There was a beautiful sunset and this couple was trying to get a picture of them with their baby by using the camera timer on their phone. I looked like a damn bridge troll with my hair pulled back, an old hoodie, pajama pants, and socks with flip flops...normal socks with the flip flop just there. I apologized profusely for my appearance, but still offered to take their photo so they could all be in it easily. I'm glad I could help, but God I was embarrassed for how I looked.

We have bigger fish to fry than wearing pajamas. We live in a country where 70% of the population doesn't care enough about themselves to not be overweight or obese. So we're not really in a place to be judging how others dress when we're majorally unhealthy and mistreat our bodies.

Not everyone lives in the USA and not even everyone in this thread lives in the USA.

Yes, but reddit is a US based company and started in the US. So the users are gonna default to that assumption. As ignorantly American as that sounds.

Is it trashy for a particular reason or just because sociaty has taught people they shouldnt do it? What is inherently different in a pajama from a standart outfit? It is more comfortable because of the fabric amd size. Thats it. What part of that os trashy?

Trashy itself is a social construct. A lot of things are a social construct, and as long as you are a member of society, you will be judged for violating those norms.

Wearing pyjamas to go shopping screams "I'm trashy"

Thats like me saying a woman who wears a low skirt is a whore and is begging to be raped. You see how ridicilous this sounds? That line of thinking was the social norm for a long time. It proves social norms are toxic when it comes to how you dress.
