Help finding a gun for my partner

My partner and I have been together for almost 4 years, and he loves guns. He has two, a .22 webley MKVI service revolver and a big rifle (i think). I can't find the box for this gun so I don't know any more specifics.

Clearly, I don't know the first thing about guns so i have no idea what I'm doing. I would love to get him a new gun to add to his collection, but i think i will definitely need some help making sure I've got this right.

I really want to get him a small revolver or something, as he really loves his revolver, but living in the uk and not having a licence i need to make sure he will actually be able to use it on private property.

What do i need to consider when looking at guns and does anyone have any specific recommendations to look at?

Please note that this is not going to be the nicest or most expensive gun ever due to my budget, i work part time so that's something I'll have to keep in mind whilst looking.

Thank you in advance, hopefully i can make this happen for him, he deserves to get something nice for Christmas ❤️

As others have already pointed you in the right direction with pellpax i thought i would suggest some potential alternatives.

You could look at a Clay Pidgeon shooting experience, you could both go and potentially discover a hobby together. There are packages on groupon and virgin experiences for anywhere from £50 and up although realistically you are probably looking at around £100 for the pair of you.

Other options could be a membership to a gun club, there will always be a rifle range somewhere nearby so you could shout him to his first years membership fees.

On the offchance that you live near the Birmingham area, or could get to it, there is a shooting range in Walsall called Double Deuce where you can shoot actual guns:

https://www.double-deuce.co.uk/

It's an 'American style' range where you can walk in and rent AR-15 style rifles.

He would definitely love it, and you would probably enjoy it too - I have taken lots of people shooting for the first time, and every one of them had a great time. It's a broadly similar experience to going bowling, but a million times more fun.

We don't live near Birmingham (were in the South East), but i actually think this would be a great excuse to get an Airbnb and go on a little adventure 🤣 I honestly had no idea this existed in the UK and i agree he would absolutely love it, thank you so much for the suggestion!

Yeah, it seems to be pretty unique in the UK - I believe it is the only one of its kind.

Hopefully more of them will spring up in the future. They are a great introduction, because they provide a low barrier of entry to people who are curious about shooting.

I am of the opinion that these types of ranges are the future, and will dictate whether guns remain legal in the UK in the long term.

With you saying he has the Webley .22 service is it an actual firearm that takes bullets or is it an air pistol?

That makes things a hell of alot easier , If it's an air pistol you only need to be over 18 to purchase and no licence required. ( Scotland is slightly different) .

Depending on your budget there are multiple air pistols to choose from.

The Webley he has got now should be co2 powered

If you go one somewhere like Pellpax they have a large range of co2 powered air pistols

https://www.pellpax.co.uk/airguns/air-pistols/co2-powered-air-pistols?price_min=30&price_max=320&q=&sort=&perpage=30&f_action_revolver=2409

If your not sure what he would like I would maybe say the colt peacemaker , (everyone loves a cowboy gun)

Hope that helps but let me know if you need any more info

That peacemaker looks beautiful, i think he will definitely love the cowboy vibes 🤣 thanks for your help, i think this may be the way to go!

Get the 7.5 inch barrel one if you can, it's more authentic than the shorter 5.5 inch barrel.

It also fits the hand like the real thing, although the weight is different, I have both the CO2 pistol and the real thing. I use the CO2 pistol to practice drawing at home for competitions.

AND if you get one with the bullet inserts they can fire air pellets as well as ball bearings.

If you're talking about the same model in different barrel lengths, then they are both authentic.

7.5' was the original Cavalry model from 1873, but the 5.5" Artillery model came out soon after, in 1875.

The most popular one though would be the Civilian 'gunfighter' model in 4.75"

Perhaps authentic was the wrong word.

You cannot buy revolvers in the UK without a firearms certificate and a good excuse to have one. Even then, they are not revolvers but Long Barrelled pistols (google to see the difference)

Thats really helpful and good to know, thank you!

It was actually singularly unhelpful. You can't buy him a firearm revolver, but there are plenty of CO2 powered revolvers (airguns) available.

For what it's worth, the revolvers with long barrels are called 'Long Barreled Revolvers', so even that part was wrong.

have a look at the numerous posts where we explain the licensing of gats.

I don't remember needing a license for my Gat:

https://shootingskulltargets.wordpress.com/blast-from-the-past-the-gat/

Ironically, I bought it while I was on holiday in Scotland, where it would indeed need a license nowadays.
