Question [OoT] Why the line of the defeated hero exists if it never happened (Question)

A doubt that... lately my brain cracked, I hadn't questioned it before.

Why is the timeline of the hero's failure created?

I understand why there's the Child's and the Adult's, which was the line Link left when he went back to the past, to the Child's.

But why the one of the defeated Hero exists if Link didn't lose against Ganon, the other two did happen, but the one of the defeat never happened at a point of time travel or near time travel.

Question Why do so many people hate it, and do you

I've been playing the switch version of skyward sword and have been loving it. However, everywhere I look people just seem to hate on it. Is it because of the janky controls, the fact that they wanted a ooc remake instead, is it that the art style/ graphics are outdated or is it just that it's a bad game. I've heard one of the complaints is that There are too many dungeons which I don't get because people complain about totk because there's are not enough dungeons. this is my first post have you got any tips for posting

Question Do you have any silly or petty criticisms (gameplay or otherwise) that make zero difference?

I lowkey dislike that Skyward Sword HD always displays a red joy-con for my right hand when the Switch has already demonstrated its ability to recognize different colors. I'm playing with orange, and it was just attached! C'mon now.

Question [Totk] How Do We Actually Feel About the Reused Map?

Nearly every thread I find on this subject is close/before Tears of the Kingdom's release. So I wanted to get a fresh opinion.

I was worried about the reused map prerelease, and now that we're 2 years out I still say it was a poor decision. I understand it let the devs prioritize the building system, and they probably don't regret that, but to me a large chunk of BOTW's (or most Zelda games) appeal was exploring a new world.

Did the building expand on Zelda's sandbox elements? Sure, but you could scrape by easily on the same dozen (or less) easy-to-make contraptions. Were there new areas? Yeah, but the Depths and Sky felt very repetitive and underbaked. Far more than botw's overworld was ever accused of being. The tweaked locations and caves were cool, but not enough to make up for all the locales that were untouched. Heck, a lot of areas (that housed guardians, shrines, and other stuff) don't serve any purpose now. It was clearly not built with Totk's ideas in mind. Tears is still a good game, but I kept feeling I was playing a high quality ROM hack than a real sequel.

Obviously this is down to preference, and you could argue Totk isn't "really" about exploration. So I'd love to know your guys' thoughts. Tell me why I'm wrong, haha.

Question Do modern mainline Zelda games really take 7 years to make?

I know there’s a growing problem with the newest console generation, across all platforms, with top shelf AAA games taking a really long time to build. But how long does it actually take to make a Zelda game?

To be more specific, are they working on the next Zelda game right now? Like does it actually take the full 7 years to build the new mainline game, or do they just start building 3-4 years before release?

Question Top 3 hardest and easiest games ?

Curious to hear from people who’ve played most (or all) of the Zelda games, what would you rank as your top 3 hardest and top 3 easiest entries in the series?

I’ve only played a handful so far, but here’s my list:

Hardest:

  1. Majora’s Mask

  2. Skyward Sword (mainly struggled with the Switch motion controls)

  3. OoT

Easiest:

  1. Minish Cap

  2. BoW

  3. Link’s Awakening

Question For those who have been playing or keeping up with the leaks -- want to provide any spoiler-free impressions for the rest of us? Spoiler

My biggest question is -- do you think it was worth the wait if six years? Do you think that timeline was justified for the content being delivered? Of course, all impressions welcome!

Like I said -- PLEASE try to avoid spoilers as much as possible. Game, story, enemy, map, etc. Thanks in advance!

Question [other]What do you think botw and totk biggest failure was?

Maybe miss potential or ideas that weren’t well use. Or risks that didn’t took further. Story, characters, gameplay etc

Not nitpicks but actual huge disappointments?

I feel like no underwater exploration was a misstep

The sky islands being so few was sad, the riot as NPCs would’ve been cool

And links whole silent treatment sucks. For all the breaking the traditional rules of Zelda they did for botw, they decided to stick with a silent protagonist which is FINE because they at least give some sort of reason in game, however after he wakes up 100 years later, he really should’ve talked bits and peaces.

Question Is your favorite Zelda game the first one you played?

Growing up with OOT, it's been impossible for any other Zelda game to compare for me. I know the nostalgia factor is hard to set aside, but OOT to me is still just a perfect game.

I'm making my way through all the main Zelda titles, and I've just finished Zelda 2: AOL, bringing my total Zelda games beaten to 14 out of 16* (this is excluding, perhaps unfairly, Four Swords/Four Swords Adventure and any spin-offs, although I plan to play these at some point). I only have the Oracle games left.

Despite this, OOT reigns supreme in my heart. And I'm curious how many people tend to find that their favorite Zelda game also happens to be their first.

Question New to the LOZ Series! Where would a good start be?

I've heard a lot about the games being great for the most part. At least, for their own reasons and things.

I've played a variety of games (potentially similar), including:

-Omori
-Deltarune and Undertale
-Monster Hunter
-Crash Bandicoot (Original 3 + Wrath, Twinsanity, and 4)
--Mario Sunshine, Galaxy 1+2, Sticker Star, TTYD, Odyssey, 3D World, and Wonder, along with all the NSMB games minus Wii U

- Rayman 1+2
-Earthbound (NSO SNES)
-and more

Fyi: sorry for listing all this, I wasn't sure if Zelda fit the kinda stuff i'm into so i put sum stuff to let y'all know what i'm into. Always up to trying new games!

Is there anywhere y'all would recommend starting?
Should i start in terms of release, best game, timeline, etc?
Whatever y'all would recommend.

Question [WW] How do old school Zelda fans feel about Wind Waker now?

I remember growing up and reading on internet chat forums where most Zelda fans really hated this game. I heard criticisms along the lines of how the art style is too childish looking or how the sailing too boring. Nowadays, I see that there are fans who now have a special fondness and nostalgia for this game. The question I have is, how old school fans of the series feel about Wind Waker now?

Question Is there a reason why Nintendo still hasn't set a game after Zelda II?

Ignoring the Wild games, because those are meant to be ambiguous (although I do think the Downfall Timeline makes the most thematic sense, what with Ganon constantly reappearing).

Why has there never been a game that takes place after the NES games? Even Echoes of Wisdom, the most recent game in the Downfall Timeline, is officially set before the NES era. What gives?

I mean, I don't really have a problem with it. Prequels are cool and all. I just find it interesting how we've never seen the timeline advance past Zelda II, which results in the very first games being the last chronologically.

Question Playing original games or QoL romhacks?

I've been playing Zelda 1 and 2 these days but can't seem to make up my mind about whether I want to play the true unalterated original games (more faithful but also unnecessarily difficult, unbalanced, and too cryptic), or the "Redux" versions which pretty much improve on everything. Does this ever bother you? Which would you pick?

PS: the goal is to be able to beat the games without looking up guides or using save states.

Question New fan that’s bad at puzzles and needs some advice.

I’m new to Zelda games and only played and beat OoT last month. While I got stuck here and there, I got through most of the game without feeling too frustrated. With Majora’s Mask I’m realizing I’m really not good at puzzles, like at all. I’ve had a far harder time getting through and it’s been really frustrating, and when I say that I mean I’m frustrated at myself, not the game.

It gets to the point where when I finally do figure out the puzzle I’m stuck on it doesn’t even feel good, I just feel dumb for not getting it sooner. I’ve taken breaks to calm down, I’ve tried to stay positive but not being able to get through on my own is ruining the fun I’m having otherwise playing the game. I hate having to ask for help but i also hate being stuck for over an hour with no idea what to do, especially on something that’s obvious to everyone else.

So is there any advice for changing my mindset and getting better at solving puzzles? Or is it just something I have to deal with?

Question Minimum number of consoles needed to play all main Zelda titles?

OoT has always held a special place in my heart. Now I am older I am wanting to branch out and play through the other titles... I currently only own a GBC and a 3DS. I was sad to learn that the Nintendo Store closed on the 3DS, and LTTP etc isn't possible to download without doing you know what.

Is it possible to download many/all of these titles on Switch? Or it's best waiting for the Switch 2 perhaps?
I have recently bought Majora's Mask and A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS also, so there's progress!

Question Why does everyone like the original version of OOT more than the 3DS version

Y though the 3DS has better graphics. Just genuinely confused. I just saw somewhere that someone wanted the original version of OOT to be ported to the switch and not the 3DS version.

Question I’m new to Zelda, should I play Skyward Sword as one of my first games?

I got into Zelda earlier this year. So far I’ve played Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Link’s Awakening. I’m currently playing through Breath of the Wild now, and will most likely play Tears of the Kingdom afterwards. Ideally, I would’ve liked to play through Wind Waker and Twilight Princess before BotW, but they’re not on Switch sadly. Should I still play through Skyward Sword since it’s on Switch? I’ve heard mixed things about the game and some people seem to hate it. I get the vibe that it’s like the Mario sunshine of Zelda. Should I still give it a try though? No spoilers please.

Question [Timeline] What exactly is the reasoning for a few of these orders?

There's always been a few things that completely puzzled me about the Zelda Timeline, and I figured I might as well ask and see what others say. But let me list what is puzzling me; feel free to respond to as many/little as desires:

\- What is the reasoning behind MC & FS predating OoT?

\- Why, among all things, is FSA in the Child Timeline end, and not the Adult Timeline Beginning?

\- What is the storyflow of the Decline Timeline? Something that I have failed to understand the flow of, and would like others input.

I'm aware this may sound dumb yes, but I really would like explanations as to some of these chronological order placements. Answers will be greatly appreciated.

Question What is the Evil Realm, where Ganondorf is banished to?

In the Downfall Timeline Ganondorf obtains the full Triforce, but is then banished to the Sacred/Golden Realm by the "Seven Wise Men" (Are these the sages? Isn't Zelda killed?), which is then turned into the Dark World by the power of Ganon with the full Triforce.

But where is he sealed after Link defeats him at the end of Ocarina of Time?

Ancient Creators of Hyrule! Now open the sealed door, and send the Evil Incarnation of Darkness into the void of the Evil Realm!

When I search for this "Evil Realm", I get redirected to the Dark World, but this shouldn't exist, because it's still the Sacred/Golden Realm, isn't it? Ganondorf stole the Triforce, but then he left to use his Triforce piece to conquer Hyrule.

Question Looking for games to play like Zelda rn cuz I’m really bored

I’m really bored right now since it’s the summer and I don’t have much to do except play some games. Anyways I already played every single Zelda game in the past 6 months or so and was wondering if you guys knew some fun games like LoZ but not legend of Zelda? Preferably single player obviously. thanks for ur time either way!

Edit: just wanted to check everybody for all of their suggestions, and so far the most promising ones seem like dark souls and hollow knight, but I will be doing research on every single suggestion since I have way too much free time. Thanks!

Question [TotK] Did anybody actually enjoy the game? Spoiler

As I’ve been browsing through this subreddit, I’ve seen nothing but negative posts towards TotK and I’m ngl it’s definitely hampered my opinion on the game. I thought TotK was a 9/10 game at first and i held strong on that opinion until I came here, where seeing all the negativity about the combat, exploration and story made me feel like an idiot for actually enjoying it. I felt like the combat was leagues ahead of any Zelda game, the exploration did a pretty good job of making the game feel distinct from BotW, and the story, while suffering from a lack of linearity, was alright enough of a supplement to the environmental storytelling that I fell in love with the game. Does anyone else here feel the same way, or am I just losing my taste in games?

Edit - Just to be clear, I have a lot of criticisms for TotK. The story could have been told in a better way (especially how logic kinda bends when you do the dragon tears first) but I feel like EVERY Zelda game has a major flaw like this (WW’s Triforce chart quest, OoTs empty Hyrule field, TPs emptier Hyrule field and random Ganondorf twist) but they are overlooked, while it feels like BotW and TotK are super scrutinized for their flaws. It makes me feel like I’m purposely trying to excuse what might bad game design and not actually enjoying the game which makes me not even want to play it anymore.

Question How big is ocerina of time?

The buildings in the game don't seem that tall. Castles, houses, etc. I'm curious what the tallest building is and how tall it is. On average they seem maybe 25 meters for most houses?

Question [TP] Did the Kokiri evolve into monkeys?

I already discussed this four years ago, but I thought I'd redo it, since things would have changed since then.

This is one I been on the fence about for... well... ever since I heard of it. The theory is that the Kokiri evolved into monkeys, sometime before TP.

Some people have debunked this by saying Hyrule Historia says the symbols on the doors are the only trace of the Kokiri in the Forest. However, this might not be literal. It could just mean the symbols are the only overt trace, and the monkeys don't count, since they are no longer recognizable as Kokiri. It's possible the two are not related. Just because Link doesn't see the Kokiri doesn't mean they are gone. Similarly, just because we don't see monkeys in OOT, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Also, no. The Ordon villagers are NOT the Kokiri. OoT claiming the Kokiri would "surly die" if they leave the forest does NOT mean "They will age into adults". It most likely means they would get killed by the many dangers from the outside world. Besides, the Ordon are clearly human, whilst the Kokiri are forest spirits. So, it wouldn't just be ageing, it'd be turning into a completely different species. Which I why I don't buy that theory.

But, anyway. Do you think the Kokiri became the TP Monkeys? Or did they just leave, and the monkeys moved in?

Question What are your least favorite item/weapons in the series?

I was replaying Majora and was reminded how much I hate the gilded sword. It looks like a clown in sword form. With the harlequin patterns, the goofy jester hilt, and even a big blue clown nose for the pommel...

Everyone talks about favorite items to death. So I was wondering what items you all considered your least favorite items. Either looks wise, or what it does in game?

Question Random Questions about the Triforce/magic system.

Hi everyone, I'm absolutely knew to the community and was wondering if someone could help me answer these questions that have been plaguing my mind? I just don't know where to go and who to ask about this, so it would be wonderful if this community could help me understand!

Alright! Let's start!

Triforce related questions:

  1. Each Triforce has it's own magic depending on the user that represents their respective principles.

    - Wisdom = Water/Time

    - Power = Earth/Fire

    - Courage = Nature/Winds

Then they have like another type of magic system connected with Hylia and Demise which is Light and Dark magic.

And then there is a Divine magic system which is the Goddess magic of Creation/Copy and Null magic of Distraction(consumption)/copy.

So my question is:

• Do each reincarnation have their own respective magic? Like Zelda have Hylia's light magic and the Triforce magic of Time. Ganondorf has Demise's Dark magic and the Triforce magic of Fire.

• Does Link have weird reincarnation magic? Each reincarnation of Link has a strange connection to nature because of the Triforce, so does that mean because he is the chosen hero by Hylia, he has abnormal magical strength?

• Also, in SS, the Skyloft gang, (that being Link, Zelda, and Grose //Groose?//) each represents a piece of the Triforce. So if it weren't for Ganondorf's reincarnation in OoT going out of his way to try and use the Triforce, would a different person who isn't connected to Demise have the ability to represent the Triforce of Power?

• Does this mean that the Triforce piece of Power is the "corrupt" version of its user after Ganondorf?

• Is the Triforce piece of Power always going to be assigned to evil hands because of Demise's influence?

Hyrule related question:

• Did Demise and Null meet each other in the center of the planets core?

• Are the interlorpers (TP) Null worshipers?

• Are fairies slowly becoming extinct?

• What happened to the Fairy queen?

• What happened to wind magic users? We slowly started getting more characters that represents wind magic, but my question is where have they gone? I've only seen the kokiri's or the forest spirit use this type of magic. Yet now we are seeing the Rito race use it even more. Did they always have this ability?

• Where are the fresh water Zora's? Did they become docile and transformed into the Rito?

• What are the dragons? Are they technically demigod?

• Why is it a taboo for the Zonai to consume the secret stones? Why is turning a dragon so bad?

• How does a Zonai = Dragon?

I got more questions cooking up, but for now im going to leave it at that. Thank you for reading this Question Dump!
